Why was early internet art so ugly?

Why was early internet art so ugly?

Sauce?

Because it was made for novelty by people trying to get a rise out of other people, not for quality.

less audience,less artists, lower standards

Don't you mean "so awesome"?

>standards
ironically modern standards for amateurs are now a million time higher than the standards we apply to professionals.

western amateur artists started aping anime art styles so their work became more fapable by default.

I used to fap to this stuff so often that I have a fetish for cheesy new grounds style animation and bad hentai dubs

There wasn't any money in it.

A lot more amateurs than professionals. Combine that with anonymity and personal detachment, and people can be both highly critical and extremely picky.

lack of more sophisticated tools?
Digital programs and tools are better than ever now

I'd say drawn porn sites were more profitable in the early 00's than now with booru's that everybody know about

fancy effects from a drawing program can't hide shitty anatomy and perspective.

Though maybe more people having drawing tablets helped.

photoshop wasnt in its prime?

You have my pity, old user.

Better question: Why are so many of the sites that pump out this garbage still around? Palcomix, Drawn Sex, and Cartoon Reality are still kicking.

the same reason most YT guys like Nerd and Critic are still around. they did it FIRST and are making more money than minimum wage, so why stop?

Why can't op stop sucking dicks?

I wish I could remember the name of the first porn artist I noticed on the internet. He made single panel gag comics like a dude getting a handy, ejaculating a playing card and the caption says "Dating a magician." They were all pretty dumb but the women were hot and the situations were imaginative.

>???

Ebin meme response, upboated

>I'm now at the awkward point where I can't tell the difference between a professional comic and a fetish comic on artstyle alone

It's like a line graph where the two axes of increasing porn comic quality and decreasing professional quality have met in the middle

Modern internet is FULL of shit art

Palcomix is still around. The other two are pretty much dead.

Paint/illustration software was poor and scanners didn’t have the best quality

High demand, low standards.

Same as niche fetish art, which explains DeviantArt.

As disgusting as that fetish is, the art itself is damn good

The lineart there is so shit it's obvious it's pro.

There's a lot of reasons. The biggest one is that drawing wasn't a normie hobby before the internet was around. Most people might doodle, or photograph shit, or do some Bob Ross paintings, but drawing was for children.

There's legitimate good art on ye olde internet, but just look at the amount of check boxes you need to hit to have something worth a shit.

>can actually draw, despite it being considered childish and a waste of time
>has the physical tools
>has a computer
>has a scanner
>has the internet
>is savvy enough to actually use them
>has somewhere to actually upload a picture

That's a lot of fucking requirements when the average layman thought the internet was basically magic.

Cartoon Reality was dead the moment Chesare left for Milftoon

Wait, is that a fetish?

>early internet
The internet has been around since the 80's, what you're posting came out a little over a decade ago and was made for a quick-buck.

The youngest that image is 1999, i will bet on it

Is this a shoop? Don't tell me it's real.

Just did a little digging. That crop is from Online Superheroes, they were active from 2007 - 2009.

>they were active from 2007 - 2009.
How the hell was this shit acceptable in fucking 07?

That version of Wondie is from Justice Leauge which came out in 2001. So at the earliest it would be 2001.

Ninja'd by this guy

see Also, looks they were active for at least a couple years after 2009.

Look at some of the older stuff on Paheal. Good art basically didn't exist until like 2012.

Zimmerman was good (RIP) but started to get same-facey towards the end. Also, when people look for drawn porn they mostly look for stuff they know (comics, cartoons, and celebrities) so good artists that don't draw much of that stuff go unnoticed, pic related, it's by Slid who retired last year.

I miss that time so much

...

I don't even want to imagine the kind of person who was writing the Drawn-Sex comics.

ay caramba

on a somewhat related note, the CG shrines is officially dead. hope you saved your favorite old school hentai from there.

Those things are usually drawn by people from South America or Eastern Europe.

Because I was 13 years old in 1999 and didn't start drawing good porn until my 20s.
The other day somebody posted an old Digimon pic I did way back when in /aco/ and it still fucks with me how bad it was, but I guess people are that desperate for porn of certain characters

which pic was it?

Tcatt is the older that was good back then. I hated Smudge back then but now I like his art.

>the CG shrines is officially dead.
What

all the galleries are broken.

So true. I found my old hard drive from 2008 and looked through all the random images I saved and deleted 90% of them in disgust. I refuse to believe my standards were THAT low back then.

Never went to those. If they're actually cg sets then it should be easy enough to find the galleries.
