This was actually a thing. Before more "modern" metallurgy came about, iron produced from mining was very poor in quality. However, iron from meteorites was very high in quality, hence making better weapons. There was also the fact that back then anything that fell from the sky was holy, so they would view the weapons and metal as holy. Some historians believe that some ancient wars were fought by warlords wanting to collect all the holy swords.
