what's with all the niggers?
For some reason I was expecting Nary to have a wider, more muscular build.
So Nary just did a crappy version of the Aldish respect/salute to authority/whatever to the next in line for the Crescian crown.
Its because Sette describes him as being the biggest and the strongest and the best. Like any child, Sette thinks of Da as superman.
I do like how Shartshane seems to just inherently recognize lordship as thuggery gone professional. "I shake down three streets and call it protection. You shake down the whole bloody land and call it LAW."
What are countries if not big ol gangs?
>Oh, hey. I think I know your kid.
Naw. I read it as just a sarcastic salute.
I also assume that most of the lords are just gangsters who got enough money and political capital to take the next step up into semi-legitimate business.
Da is pretty hot. Does this mean we can finally have Da/Sette smut?
He's more of a pretty boy than I was expecting. I was expecting more of a bruiser, less of a Gambit.
Seriously, I can't believe that schnozz hasn't been punched crooked.
I thought he would be more rough n' tumble. At the very least, an eye patch. He doesn't even need to be missing an eye really, just have the damn patch.
>less of a Gambit.
fuck, now i'm going to read all his dialogue in the 90's tas voice.
IT'S HAPPENING
>Cresce plotting to use the Gefendur orders as a fifth column
Called it
Finally meeting the true Best Dad.
I vaugely recall concept art with sette attempting to shave him that had him a bit more brawny, maybe this is a body double?
I doubt he'd try to play Beadman like that. The King, sure, but not Beadman; Nary's a crook, not stupid.
Yeah, I remember that too.
Same...I can honestly say I'm disappointed
I like his coat.
Damn Nary is pretty.
This is Unsounded. You'll rarely go wrong by guessing "macabre pretty-boy."
OH SHIT DA
He looks younger than I thought, less manly too. Nary a care looks like he's got a lotta cares cause he looks depressed
May be nary has more muscle under those clothes I think the cloak and the narrow, pointed face and nose make him look slimmer than he is
Ashley needs to learn about the joys of bara.
But what I wanna know is: Where is Boss Nigger?
Dead, surely. I mean, he fell off a cliff.
Dead
tired after banging that sweet Elka puss
...
I daresay... that may be the point? Sette has built up a monster in our imaginations. But her dad is only a man.
and if someone else is willing to track down those flashback bits from way earlier in the comic we can compare
Looks like a completely different person, even with the unreliable narrator thing going on.
Maybe Nary is using some kind of pyramic based disguise while he's in the capital? He could have enemies lurking the street.
It's old art. I hadn't settled on his looks yet.
and you went all twink. Doesn't your bishonen lust know no bounds? Can you not quell the beast in your pantaloons?
Fair enough. The nose and sleepy eyes is still pretty consistent in the second pic.
Why make him so slick instead of a bruiser?
Getting punched in the face is for them what don't know how to get out of the way. Nary's the kind of man you don't see coming in a fight, you just see him walking off and wiping off the blood.
'Cause why would he be a bruiser? He's the boss. Nary's smarter than the average gutterdog - ambitious and sly - and I wanted him to look like more of a thinker than a brawler.
Ashley, you always seem to know when an Unsounded thread is up. Do you post them yourself, then put the trip on? Or are you already here anyway and just happen to see the thread.
I for one really like the comic version of Nary! A splendid job.
I see this argument a lot, but the best gangsters are both. Lucky Luciano had a scarred up mug, and he was arguably the most successful crime boss in history.
True but it feels a little too far the other way unless he was born into it I cant imagine him surviving to get to the top even if he is a greased weasel
When it's a page like this where I want to see feedback, I seek the thread out. You guys usually have useful shit to say!
Even Al Capone got his face cut up when he was starting out. The best bosses in the history of crime near to a one got taught a hard lesson when they were coming up. No one is so slick they never got a beating.
Those are some impressively sharp schnozzes on those Sharte bosses.
I wonder if they use them to duel like mighty rhinos.
Stop it with the twinks, you're breaking my suspension of disbelief. Now you have to fix it by putting all these bishounen look fuckers in a power rangers team.
I have a question about accents. In a previous thread, someone mentioned that you had said that Crescians generally sound like americans, Alds sound slavic and Shartes sound like working class brits.
I forgot to ask my question, is that true?
He WAS born into it, sweet cheeks.
question: is the tail that girl has prehensile or is it just completely useless?
why not chop it off?
>Nary A'Care
Noice
>Feudalism with gangs instead of noble houses
Neato.
Also, I can see the resemblance between Stockyard and Nary a Care now. I wondered why Stocky looked so thin and sorta darker than Sette, but now he looks just like his uncle. This only raises more questions why Sette don't look like her bestest Da.
Well Sette was a baby in that picture, has to be at least a decade ago depending on if she really does age more slowly as was implied. Maybe he has just lost muscle mass as he aged?
>Dead
You can't be fucking serious.
>You guys usually have useful shit to say!
>This only raises more questions why Sette don't look like her bestest Da.
Its obvious
He fucked a lioness, maybe a literal one.
I did suggest that, but I kind of HATE when people insist on matching them up to accents in our world. It's a fantasy world - they have their own languages and accents and we can't begin to imagine them. So any head canon you devise is perfectly fine, if you ask me. If you envision something else for Duane for example, God bless.
Nein~~
I'm going to bed now, I love you all, happy Valentine's Day.
I like the design as well.
This is a guy I can feel watched Stockyard's dad and (for all I know) Who-All-Else Frummagem be hanged but learned something from it while the rest of his people shrugged it off,
It tickles me pink to imagine Duane and Lemuel squatting and tracksuits and dancing to hardbass
ToMAN when?
(this chapter, promise)
...
barefoot crazy ana when?
Hey, while your in the thread can I ask if Sette is short for something like "Settle Down Frummagem" or something, seeing as that would go along with the Sharte naming convention?
She was born a settee, which is a type of couch. Sharte naming conventions revolve around the circumstances of the childs birth.
She linked this on tumblarg once as an example of Aldish dancing. I'm not sure which is worse. youtube.com
But she wasn't born, she was made.
that's a big nose
U U

UUUU
He seems pretty jacked to me. Look at the muscle on his arms. He's also very tall, notice the perspective in the third to last panel, he's like a head taller than the guy next to him. He looks every inch the bad ass I was expecting.
That's what Toby was for. RIP.
>You guys usually have useful shit to say!
I doubt the useful part, but we definitely have no end of shit to say.
Hey Ashley, since you changed the site you can't go back and read older page descriptions anymore unless you know the URL. Could you please fix that? Sometimes I get to an update a little late and I like reading your comments on them.
Scroll all the way down. There are Next and Previous links below the comments.
As some one who's actually grown up around criminals, the whole 'pretends to manners/mortality' pisses off suits like nothing else.
also, knife fighters are notoriously lanky. And 'Nary strikes me as a knife fighter, both in act and ideology.
How are you
Also the knife tucked into his boot probably gives it away.
He looks like he fucks other men's wives.
So, uh, does Cresce just not even remotely consider the possibility of Sharteshane allying with Alderode? Because they seem to treat it like an impossibility, whereas it increasingly seems to me like a logical conclusion for both countries, if Cresce is going to make enemies of both of them.
Did you even read today's page? Here, I will quote it to you verbatim:
>A war on two fronts would hurt; but Sharteshane threatens her majesty's aims. Their insouciance is indistinguishable from hostility
In other words Cresce apparently sees Sharteshane's current course of (in)action not measurably worse than open hostility, ergo there's nothing to lose by forcing the issue with them, because now at least with the gauntlet thrown down they have semi-credible pretext to act with military force against Sharteshane. Also as to Sharteshane allying with Alderode, again I have to ask if you even read this page, cause it says:
>Arrange meetings right away with Sharteshane's religious authorities. They hate heretical Alderode as much as we do. How might they react to news their country's arming alds
And there you have it. Ultimately Alderode is still the enemy however much a bully Cresce is because of the Ssaelit boogeyman.
Sooner dig out your heart with a brick
He fell off a cliff, and we never saw the body, so obviously he's completely dead as is standard for fictional situations like this.
He’s talking about the descriptions
No but seriously Toma better be okay. If he's crippled or something that's gonna suck, but he did take a serious beating.
Altho, as of six years back the Ssaelit are apparently a minority faith
You take for granted our omniscient knowledge of what goes on in Alderode. They're a secretive nation with closed borders, most folks outside probably have no idea bout the current power struggles within the government and the ratios of the current religious faiths. It's enough that Alderode officially embraces the heretical Ssaelit faith, that alone is enough to enrage Gefendur zealots.
It was precisely the contrast of Nary looking like a brute while we knew that he was a lot deeper than that which captured our imagination. It fit him perfectly because it captured his essence, a small time street-boss with secret desires for something more.
His new looks make him look as if he already fits perfectly into the "palace" and university of Sharteshanes capital. He's no longer a criminal dreaming of respectability. He's a misplaced noble who is melancholy because some quirk of fate had him born on the streets when every time he looks in a mirror he's reminded that he belongs in upper society.
It was the seeming impossibility of Nary ever attaining his goals that made him so sympathetic to me. I am now fully expecting him to rule all of Sharteshane in Beadmans place by the end of the comic.
I love the way Shartsanians speak.
I was wondering the same thing. There is the added layer that Nary is likely overhearing them discussing Sharteshanes reaction to Alderode heresy. I think the fact that the bodyguard is staring at his back with such a frown suggests he's done something more than just happen to pass by. The fact that he closes his eyes while saluting almost certainly connects it to the traditional Ssaelit one.
If you're still here, I still hear some of the Skyrim Nord voices for Duane's dialogue, especially Heimskr in Whiterun. Must be the preacher voice thing.
>The night I have to stay late at work is the night Ashley posts in one of these threads and I miss it.
So it goes.
Nary's probably the character I've had the biggest roller-coaster of a reaction to in the series. I liked how omnipresent he was for a dude who never really appeared on page, how his influence on Sette was clear. I hated him for using her, then liked him for realizing (in his own messed-up way) he actually does care for her. Now he's here and it's so unceremonious and kinda great.
She posts here relatively often, whenever she has reason to.
Hey look
it's her Da'
Is there anything purer than sette?
Personally I'm a fan when the big rough looking bastard has a brain. Making the smart guy look like a smart guy is surface design and obvious, having him look atypical for a 'thinker type' leaves something else running under the hood, makes the character seem more layered and subverts audience expectations about how they 'should' behave.
That IS how the country works - Ashley herself said of it that it was barely a country at all in how its so ruled by its criminal over-under-world like a super-powered Somalia
Too true - he's subtly, but instantly intimidating. I love this design
You do know who made this comic, right?
His clothes look pretty loose to me. And he's tall.
He's probably more muscular than we're giving him credit. He's been summoned to the capital by the boss, of course he's gonna dress for the occasion.
I adore Nary's look, he looks bigger than people are giving him credit for under that cloak
>"I shake down three streets and call it protection. You shake down the whole bloody land and call it LAW."
I like this post. I hope I remember it for a long time.
