We appreciate programmes of this nature may always bring out strong feelings, but it's important to remember the context here in that this was an authored view by David Harewood himself exploring a number of issues from his own perspective. That said, David does reflect upon a number of social concerns which have been expressed by many other people, and this programme was an attempt to look at the realities underpinning these concerns in as objective a way as possible.
In one section of the programme, David made the point that many people in modern politics come from top jobs in the media or journalist, so he visited the BBC Newsroom in Broadcasting House in central London to find out for himself how many black people are in senior positions there. Looking around the Newsroom, David appeared disappointed at the lack of black people working there, and he made the point that the corporation still appeared to be "hideously white". This was, as he explained, a direct quote from former BBC Director-General Greg Dyke who very famously indeed used this phrase many years ago to sum up his unhappiness at what he felt was a severe lack of diversity inside the BBC. This comment was made some 15 years ago, thus it was very relevant for David to cite the comment here as he made the point that nothing appeared to have changed in all the years since.
