Bande Dessinee

Why are French comics so lewd in comparison to their American counterparts?

It's France.

>gave those comics a shot because of potential lewdness
>found myself legitimately enjoying the story instead

It almost seems like it's the opposite there.

French love sex but hate violence.
Americans hate sex but love violence.

ThisAlso Australia is weird about violence

...

Volume 8 when?

I love this series, I want the next book NOW

Reeing pretty hard here, osti
Les Nombrils is not French.
It is Quebecois, tabarnaq

>French hate violence.
nice one

That's a Canadian comic. Not French.

Incorrect! Both love sex and violence. French fear how violence in media influence their generations more than what sex will. United States fears how sex in media influence their generations more than what violence will.
The memes that made this logic is old but it takes forever for it to change. The US use to be really ok with sex, prostitution was legal and bordellos were about as common as strip clubs in the states are now. What happen was everything got to perspicuous and STDs were both getting out of hand and hurting generations coming up, between that and the Women's Christian movement of the 1910s made it illegal in fear of disease spread. We hit a small swing of pro sex during the 60s that got smashed out to a mix of STDs and single moms. We are rotating back to pro sex but I'm curious this time how it will go, the sea of contraceptives and protections are vast and if we could cure STDs like small pox we likely see a society in the US not to different from a Brave new world. My knowledge of France is much more limited however post world war 2 was when the idea of graphic violence being a bad influence and frown upon so perhaps the war torn county grew to accept fucking as acceptable entertainment or killing.

A frog is a frog, Pierre.

Wait, do Jenny and Vicky have outies?

Va chier, tabarnak de crissssss

piercing

Nope. French Canadians are worse because they actively try to make people think they're authentically French. Like, they'll talk about French shit and France itself being they greatest thing ever, despite never going to Europe in their lives.

You've never met anyone from Quebec.
They hate people from France.
It's a long standing grudge.
France abandoned Nouvelle France since the Conquest.

>The US use to be really ok with sex, prostitution was legal and bordellos were about as common as strip clubs in the states are now. This always goes in cycles of when people become too degenerate and it triggers a conservative backlash. It happened in the late 19th century when social activism groups campaigned against prostitution, and then again when the 1920s were so decadent that they led to Hollywood being censored for 35 years. Then the 1970s got too decadent with the Sexual Revolution and led to another conservative backlash.

>WHY AREN'T EVERYONE JUST LIKE US
suck a tailpipe

also those are fucking canadians making this you faggot, only their publisher's french

Blacksad is written by Spaniards.

This, plus US Puritanism is culturally stultifying.
The point about post WWII attitudes to violence is real, it's hard to enjoy graphic violence when your own country has been knee deep in blood and bodies.

Why are you getting mad? That's a great question to ask.

sheesh, is there anyone they wont alienate?

I'm sure American attitudes about violence will change after today.

>strong borders
>strong identity

>yo why won't they let in millions of syrians, bruh they're not pc #noborders man fucking peace

Mostly because cape isn't a really minor genre there, and other genres allows more casual nudity for comedy or realism.

>French fear how violence in media influence their generations more than what sex will.
This hasn't been the case since the 90's. Now it's pretty much the opposite, with women at the head of CSA and France television it's becoming harder and harder to see even a cleavage on TV.

The French market is how it even exists. Same with many italian comics (outside of their Disney stuff)

LOL good one

Just wait for the demographic shift.

This actually looks good and I'm real interested in looking this up but this is pretty tame compared to some the worse stuff found in america. Hell, even the big two can get alot more violent than this sometimes.

>This, plus US Puritanism is culturally stultifying.
We have the world's largest porn industry.

>So lewd
>post no exemple
??

>America is the biggest porn producer
>France is the biggest warmonging country
??

because western media prioritizes to sell to the widest of demographics possible.

Right, how did you arrive at your second conclusion?

History.
Look it up.

No superheroes cornering the comics market.
No knee-jerk reaction to extreme adult comics that became popular after WW2.

>is
France hasn’t really been big on the warmongering since WWI, for obvious reasons.

Meanwhile, a certain other country is constantly starting shit. Also, Russia.

>but hate violence.

French horror movies say otherwise.

sounds like manga

>Every female in comic books are oversexualized, with slutty dress.
>post the bellybuttons as a proof of sexualization in french comics, despite the fact it's a humoristic artstyle
>it's not even french in the first place
If at least you posted Les Feux d'Askelles instead, but no.

>furry KKK
1. How?
2. Why?

Much like the having the largest case of obesity that's more of population than per capita. Also you can thank Oregon of all places for that.

France has been continuously involved in interventions in Africa and Asia after the fall of their colonial empire, the Rwandan genocide was partially their fault since they backed the Hutus.

17 dead from a random shooting is hardly the same as your country being invaded and people being slaughter

>the Rwandan genocide was partially their fault since they backed the Hutus.
Fucking Kagamé shill, neck yourself.

How it happened:
>Kayibanda (hutu) presidency is contested
>Meanwhile, hutus in Burundi get genocided, tensing the hutu population in Rwanda
>Kayibanda start institutionalized violence against the tutsi to regain popularity with the hutu.
>general Habyarimana (also hutu) coup, supported by France, and becomes president.
>the tutsi support him despite being a hutu since he's way better than Kayibanda.
>general Kagamé (current president of Rwanda and the African Union, tell me that crime doesn't pay) shoots his own president's plane with 2 missiles.
>colonel Bagosora coups and kills Uwilingiyimana (first female rwandan prime minister, hutu moderate, and next in line for presidency)
>Bagosora starts genociding tutsi.
>France, Belgium and the rest of the civilized world try to understand what the fuck just happened, why the UN troops got massacred out of the blue, and how to stop all those people from killing each other asap.
So yeah, totally the whiteys' fault; and probably the jews' and the reptilians' as well.
After all, it's not like african countries are mature enough to be held responsible for their atrocities, right? They're just poor children misguided by white countries, and unable to make their own choices.

Have some Melumom and Meludad

Also, what's been shown so far of the new book suggests Melusine has a long lost twin. My bet's that her cousin Melisande really isn't her cousin.

>Based Hitler protected European comics from capeshit

It's pretty simple. Just replace skin color with fur color. The kkk leader was a polar bear.

>low res
>watermarked by some cunt that isn't delaf or dubuc
Delete that shit and then burn your harddisk.

can't say I've witnessed any animosity towards french people, despite being there multiple times.

>rwanda
>backed
>not hacked
Missed opportunity there.

That was allegedly the 18th school shooting in 'murrica this year, and we're only halfway through february.
Even if the 18 turns out being spin, shootings are still so common the media here in europe don't even bother reporting about them anymore, unless the killcount is at least double digit and something unusual happened.

>tfw more english tomes never
I don't like this feel.

At least Splooge knows she exist.

someone post some requiem chevalier vampire

Thoughts and prayers

Oh I saw a new book of that in a (french) bookshop a few days ago

POST MORE LES NOMBRILS REEEEEEEE

You uh...

You got the sauce on that, bud?

>mfw I tried to do studies for drawing Blacksad, but I discovered he's a manlet, him being just 6 heads tall.
What a bummer.

>the most recent volume had a page which was effectively just a Karine bimbofication sequence

Are Delaf and Dubuc, dare I say, /our/ guy and gal combo?

Which part of
>Splooge
is hard to read?

Shitfetish pls go. That sequnce wasn't bimboing,, it was Karine daydreaming about growing into an actual feminine shape instead of the noodle armed plank she sees herself as.

You got any idea the shit that comes up when you type...

>Splooge
>Comic
>Tumblr

Into google?

but this comic is French-Canadian(?)

You could just have checked the archive. If you do it right the link is in the first post. And no, doing it right doesn't require you to know the url of the tumblr.

Also, Splooge only posts a miniscule fraction of his stuff on it and there is no archive for his stuff ;_;

Let's be frank here, the Americans don't like sex and they can only deal with violence when it's been deboned complety, to the point where they don't even notice that their heros aren't acting any different from their police forces.

didn't read the thread but

-USA was built by puritans, and still to this day has a weird relationship with sex and nudity, full of hang-ups
-USA sees comics and cartoons as very specifically stuff for kids or teens meaning that gritty fighting is ok but sexual stuff isn't, whereas in Europe it's accepted that comics are also made for adults or young adults and can have lewd jokes among the humor, or even full-on sex scenes. Those comics obviously aren't meant for little children.

The nazis weren't in power for that long and also didn't control all of Europe for that long, wtf

There's been horrific mass shootings before and they haven't changed anything, aside from maybe tightening security measures.

Besides, as long as it's not anyone you know getting affected, it's not necessarily enough to change deep attitudes like that. But when it's a war, where lots of people from your own extended family and the families of your friends have been affected by the violence, either by people dying or coming back from the front traumatized and/or mutilated or civilians getting raped or whatever, that's when it stops being entertaining.

but still...

It's Quebecois. That's like confusing American for British.
I've actually met the authors on occasion, as they live in the same part of Quebec as me just north of Newport Vermont. They drew one of the girls in a bikini for me. If this thread is still up when I get home I'll take a photo of it.

that's a bit of an americanocentric view. Conservatives like Familles de France were also involved in the 1949 law, as well as the state controlling youth media and increasing censorship in general.

...

There is a secound one of those images explaing how the change of infrastructure and the different situations of (public) transport in general changed the ability to even get your hands on reading material. Japan is made as an example for obvious reasons.

>>the most recent volume had a page which was effectively just a Karine bimbofication sequence
It did?

>but hate violence.

I kind of dig that Melusine looks closer to her dad than her mom.
Sucks that I'll never be able to read these books in english, and it sucks even more that apparently they aren't even worth reading nowadays.

>Also, what's been shown so far of the new book suggests Melusine has a long lost twin. My bet's that her cousin Melisande really isn't her cousin.

There's two, established plot pieces you have to keep in mind:
- they introduced the concept that fairies and witches poison each other just by their proximity, Melusine and Melisande are immune to this because they are blood related (but this puts into question how the hell Melisande has been able to visit Melusines school for 15 books without this effect being shown).
- Melusine has an older sister, Pirouline, who when de-aged via a spell, looks exactly the same as Melusine (so it is unlikely that she is NOT her relative).

Those pics make it look like the mom is holding another child. Since that corner is hidden, it presumably alludes to some not-yet-introduced or completely unknown relative. It is most likely not Pirouline because she is significantly older. This would also mean that they completely forgot about Pirouline too.

tl:dr; the new books suck.

It's funny how Karine looks so shy when from that angle, she looks twice as good as the other two girls.

...

>that's a bit of an americanocentric view.

That's because the world consists of America and everything else, and if you disagree you are either a godless Communist, or fucking Nazi scum.

This whole thing seems really weird. It's like it focuses specifically on American comics and is trying to come up with weird-ass reasons, mainly
>something something censorship and continent-wide bans abloo abloo
for why capeshit isn't super popular in Europe. It's all "well the French and the Belgians had one periodical with comics, so it was just impossible for any other magazine to become popular in that market" or "hurr muh anti-american agenda", which is fucking ridiculous. It's the same as saying that US comics aren't popular in Japan because they already have this weekly Shonen Jump magazine and no-one reads anything else.

Or like, "France had a ban on violent content and that's why capsehit didn't become popular in countries that are not France, either". What? Is this supposed to focus only on France and Belgium? Then why are they talking about "Europe"?

I mean, US comics already are very popular in Europe. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse are hugely succesful, though often their adventures are drawn by Euro artists. It's just that people got used to different kinds of comics, and even when capeshit eventually started to get widely translated and published, it just didn't get as all-consumingly popular - and it seems like the person who made this comic is just baffled and a little bit butthurt over that, and can't accept "people just aren't that into capeshit because they have options" as a reason.
