What do Spider-Man fans think of Sideways? Granted it's only been one issue, but I think it has potential. What kind of stories/development would you like to see from Derek? Could decent sales be the kick in the pants Marvel needs to unfuck Peter's book?

There's something there, I think. Derek and Ernie have a fun back and forth. We don't know how good he is at fighting, but I at least hope he can do some cool shit with his powers.

Mediocre writing with good art but all the other artists seem to be leaving after 3 issues

I'm confused my this new push of rip-offs. It's DC just going "Look! Don't you want ripoffs of the things you like?!"

Marvel has been shit for almost two decades now, but this hardly seems like the solution. Also, I found issue 1 to be dull as dirt.

Though the more I look at that cover, it looks like he drew the head and Sideways but not the city

I give it only 3 issues more than Doomed.

Marvel fans are tired of the company mishandling the properties.

DC thinks by making surrogates they can win the audience Marvel is losing.

In case you haven't noticed, the big 2 have been ripping each other off for decades. Deathstroke vs Deadpool, Thanos vs Darkseid, the list goes on. I see no issue with DC deciding to poke fun at Marvel given their shitty sales.
Morrison is joining Sideways later this year, and I think all of these books have a set in stone at least 12 issues

This is the first time they're making a whole line of straight up ripoffs though. There were occasionals like Hyperion, but not like this.

Snyder said Damage met sales expectations and
>Damage #1 (DC) - 37,001 [80]
They clearly didn't think they could win a lot of the audience. This seems like just a pet project by Didio or Snyder or something.

Source?

Those are fine numbers for the first issue of a brand new character.

Challenger is just 6 issues

When your competitor keeps pissing off their consumers, why not jump at the chance at gaining new potential readers? It could encourage Marvel to do better, and I welcome giving new characters a chance with new books.

Ah, then I stand corrected

I like DiDio as a writer and Rocafort's art

>the very state of comics

The first issue was a bit of a shitshow, sure, but a lot of titles that go on to be sucessful have a rocky start

I think the overall concept is sound, but in a very undercooked state. Maybe we'll see some progress towards being a "decent" or even "great" in the next couple of installments. I am curious to see what Morrison's going to do with it once he gets his hands on it.

Hell, maybe we'll finally get a spiritual successor to Marvel Boy out of it

Compared to Damage's issue, this was actually pretty solid. It's hard for a brand new character to wow people in a first issue. The way I see it, this was a good way to establish his supporting cast and his current situation

Honestly? Not as good as that Doomsday book from DCYou (that had at least a cool Spidey parody thing going on). This tried too hard to be hip and cool with de kids.

>project by Didio or Snyder or something
Jim Lee. It's his pet. He likes to push artists in comics.

It was okay. The setup was fine, I like the side characters they've shown off so far, but they're gonna have to do something interesting with the story if they want to retain any interest.

Damage seem to be the weakest link of the first wave.

>Grant Morrison will be co-writing the ongoing for the foreseeable future
This comic just keeps on getting better and better.

We've established that Derek is durable and super strong, but he has zero experience fighting. So it could be interesting to see how he handles his first opponent.
It's because his issue was so nothing. Doesn't help that his next 2 issues are crossovers

Besides the costume and him being a high school kid what else does he have that's like Spider-Man?

It's shit

I think everyone is just going to wait for the Morrison issue.

That said the first issue of Silencer was pretty good. Don't care much about the others and I don't know if Terrifics will be good but if it is I'll get it too.

It's okay, art is real pretty but story in #1 is kinda eh. Pretty surprised that Silencer was the strongest one that came out so far.

I get the fact that the kid is a teen, and is meant to echo spidey, but I'm fucking bored as hell with kids that are granted powers suddenly turn off their brains and do stupid shit. It's common, yeah, I know it fits, but it's been done to death.
If the kid was more calculating and intelligent and hinted at some lofty goals, It would have broken the mold for me and gotten my attention.

Pass.

I like the concept of character and his powers.

>but all the other artists seem to be leaving after 3 issues
I keep hearing this but where has that actually been told to us officially?
And any word on who will replace Lee on Immortal Men?

I was hoping for Fabok but it sounds like he will be busy on Bendis's Superman along with Reis.

Really excited for Immortal Men & The Unexpected. Really hope they last and keep decent artist.

CUTE

>black protag

sigh... so much potential

I stopped being a Spider-Man fan 11 years ago. But Sideways shows lots of promise and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

>Morrison is joining Sideways later this year
Based.

Doomed really fucked itself with the design of the main character. I get he's supposed to be a freakish monster, but this is not how you design a protagonist for a potential new framchise. Far too generic.

He's a handsome Latino.

His power, his possibility for lewdness are limitless.
Believe me. I browse /jp/.

It was brought up in his storytime, but they really should just make him a amateur cameraman for a news station or a superhero TMZ website. With his abilities, he can be first on the scene for every hero battle and film it.

Nothing like Spider-Man except the costume

Top tier waifu in issue 1 so good enough.

Sideways/Doomed story when?

Come on, two characters that tried to mimic the Spider-man formula in different ways, it's the perfect team up

His adoptive mom is hotter to be honest.

I'm calling the background nervous nerd girl as future love interest

That's fine, you have your opinion and I respect that. MOMMY MILKY is an acceptable position to hold but cute autistic costume making otaku girl is uncharted territory for a western comic.

I wouldn't mind it just because it'd be nice to have Derek and Ernie's relationship be completely platonic instead of going "oh they're boy/girl and best friends obviously they want to fuck".

I'd be fine with that. Though I fear a possible love triangle between the twins

I wouldn't mind him and thot twin either. Love triangles are shit though so I wouldn't want to see one and especially not one with autist fembro.

Spidey's been shit since House of M - since writers don't understand what makes his books good (which is the human condition). It's not a strong start for Sideways, but it's got decent enough characterization mapped out to keep me picking up the next issue. DiDio and Morrison working on it means that DC is ready to go balls deep on this character, so I hope they succeed in at least keeping him interesting and fun.

Sideways doing well could potentially fuck Peter over even more. His comic succeeding with him being a high school loner would give Marvel the wrong message that regressing Parker back to a college or even high school student may be a good idea. That said, Sideways probably won't even make a dent. Spiderman has seen more than a few attempting to ape his success already and none have stolen the spotlight away from him. Either they stand as their own thing or die in obscurity.

With him trying to avoid the other twin even at school seems like there is some history.
For a first issue i thought it did a good job establishing his powers his personality and his supporting cast.

I agree with the guy in the storytime thread. I hope she stays frumpy and nerdy and doesn't have to undergo some awful makeover. I hate that shit. There's enough conventionally attractive Sup Forums girls already.

>comic book store ran out of these already

There's something oddly sweet about a shy, normal girl landing a superhero boyfriend
Yeah, I missed out on getting Damage. Which I wasn't really big on the story, but I still wanted a copy for my collection. Oh well

I think she can have a kind of mousy cuteness to her but yeah in no way (if she's actually an important character down the road) should she be the "beautiful all along" type.

I like that about Ernie in the first issue: she's a dumb fucking anime nerd and just looks sloppy and unstylish both in the morning and in the couple of panels she appears in at school (t-shirt and pants, baseball cap and the like). She's cute without having to be stereotypically cute and it's the kind of uncuteness of it that, ironically, makes her cuter.

I'm hoping for a threesome myself.

Fuck buddies or weird 3 way relationship?

So, anybody gonna storytime it?

Check the archives.

Yes.

It sucks to be you, but its a good sign.

What's damaged?

I really hope they do something like that. It would be really interesting to see.

DC's new Hulk character

Its probably the more interesting concept out of all the knock offs so far and it seems to have a nice core of elements to create a fun story and become great. I hope DC expands on it and maybe have Static and Blue Beetle be part of this cast, I hope it succeeds.

This is so shit, this wont survive because it essentially its just Hulk, Sideways does something different from Spidey but tapping into the same core idea. Honestly DC should have just made a normal human being with an absolute uncontrollable power instead of yet another mass of muscles

Or they just didn't order any more than they needed for people who already said they were interested.

Well DC doesn't seem too confident in him either. His 2nd issue is fighting the Suicide Squad, and after that its Wonder Woman. If they want new characters to succeed, they need to be able to stand on their own two feet. We don't really get any sort of idea about what's-his-names character, only that he's a government superweapon with a one hour time limit

That´s still good because next time they will order more.

> 65. Silencer #1 (DC) - 30,131 [89]
Lee, Snyder, and Lemire are the only ones that won't sell like garbage by the 2nd issue.

Right now I like sideways but I have this feeling as soon as they switch artist I won't give a shit anymore

>Honestly DC should have just made a normal human being with an absolute uncontrollable power instead of yet another mass of muscles

That's pretty much the other Damage, he generates energy that gives him strength, speed, etc but it explodes if he doesn't use it

Soooo... that's how a femanon looks like? I hit that.

Wonder what her AOTY is.

I'll read it when Justin Jordon is off it.

Not the Hulk, but nuRulk. Both have about a hour limitation to their transformation and about a day cooldown for when they can transform again.

It was really good as an introduction but I'm looking forward to seeing what type of enemies he faces. I wonder if he'll join one of the bigger leagues like The Titans or something.

I can't read fucking anything that Rocafort draws

storytime?

You could get it digital or read the storytime. I’m hoping Sideways does well since DC dropped the ball with Jamie during Rebirth. Giffen clearly didn’t want to write him.
Yeah I’m kinda afraid of that. Morrison coming on might give it a boost, but to go from Rocafort to like anyone else is going to be rough.

Smells like Ultimate Spider-Man, I hate it.

I hope not. The only super team that looks after young superheroes were the JSA.

Im gonna do it

>Venom
>the watcher
>green goblin
>and even black cat

...

Goddamn Derek is handsome. Fucking fujoshits need to step up their game and stop messing with ex-Robins like Dick and Jason.

Y'know what good? Porn involving these onesies pajamas.

So Derke likes ernie but he doesn't really like her sister emeline.

...

...

...

...

I like how there is a Not-Peter in his rogues gallery, curious what powers he has but it's probably similar to Dazzler. Could the guy behind Not-Venom be some kind of Kraven wannabe?

...

Very boring first issue. But i'm sure it will get better once they introduce the rogues and we get to see more of his powers being used. The art is really pretty. I don't like Derek, but at least he isn't Peter Parker, that's a good thing. Fucking neat costume.

I really want to see the speedster black lady, she gives makes me diamonds.

I see The Showman as the green goblin analog where the guy behind not-venom is part of a cult that worships the big bad of the series.

...

I wonder if any of these high school extras are important?

Dude on the left corner is Kraven the hunter
>Famous tv show
>cocky
>Coat with fur
>Exposed chest and abs

I din't know if Derek is blowing off ernie to have fun with his powers or if he really doesn't like emeline.
