In the last two months I've had 4 incidents with pitbulls. Three of them were off of their leash. I've had to draw twice, and fire once.

Many pitbull owners are scum and maleducate the dogs. Any dog with a scum owner can become a nig dog.
The usual mark of a bad owner is the cut ears and tail for the pitbull to make the dog more "agressive look". If a pitbull has all his pieces, he's usually a good dog.

I agree, its a solid rule to get a family friendly dog, unless you are a single white male who can take care of yourself, or you get a pit bull as a guard dog. I wouldn't get one if I had a family for the simple fact that I've read stories of pit bulls flipping shit and killing the kids of their owners.

They actually make pretty shitty guard dogs because they're usually pretty friendly with strangers unless they're abused. Most of the attacks that get reported are dogs turning on their abusers.

I'm conflicted. I've had my left ankle obliterated by a pitbull. I used to be the sales manager for my local newspaper and door to door was part of the gig. Luckily the owner got hold of the second pit. I'm conflicted because I know two very sweet pits. Super snuggley. I know those two would never attack anything. I still get a little worried around them though. But they've never shown anything but submission.

Actually it's an admission that the breed significantly deviated from the desired standard. Originally they were bread to be aggressive toward other animals and submissive to humans. Breeders used to destroy animals that showed aggression toward humans.
These days the breed is not well culled so dogs that deviate from the intended standard have been allowed to ruin the breed's reputation.
