>“They’re yelling fools,” Dr. Howard said. “And a lot of what they pass around is false news.”
This is getting ridiculous
A few things to note:
Repeats the "false news" narrative they just started pushing
Tried to deligitimize Trump support by claiming it was all just bots
Comes after a wave of Twitter bans
Published by the New York Post, aka Murdoch, aka Fox News
>nytimes
>complaining about fake news
>while posting fake news
Who cares
>CarlosSlim.com
Nice try Carlos Slim.
>false news
>fake news
Why the fuck are they pushing this? Nobody buys the mainstream bullshit which is why they turned to alternative news outlets
>false news
Can you feel that artificial narrative starting to build up?
False news is a masterstroke. In this one expression they've found a way of dismissing as propaganda anything that isn't their propaganda. And not just Fox. The BBC and guardian have been jizzing themselves over 'false news' the past week too.
They've got a kind of revisionist history approach going already. We've gone from before the election when everything was looking clearly in Hillary's favour, to after the election with the narrative that she never stood a chance in the first place and was unfairly cheated. No one cared about this stuff until Trump won, and now they're looking for more and more ways to say that Clinton should have won.
It might not even be malicious, just really really immature. But we'll see won't we?
Read up the OG study.
There was a 55-19 ratio of pro-trump vs pro-clinton tweet on twitter. Keep that in mind. That's nearly 3 pro-trump tweets vs pro-clinton to begin with.
The study also defines chatbots as accounts that tweeted using an election related hashtag 450 times in the data collection period, about 50 a day. While weaponized autism may result in some genuine humans hitting this limit, their methodology seems sound, and you can look at the same data if you want to refute them.
I think people might also be misinterpreting chatbots as inherently nefarious. Probably a significant portion of these chatbots are dedicated to just retweeting stuff dumbly.
>false news
is that the new meme?
But it literally is true though and you guys are fucking faggots for denying it. I've seen so many bullshit made up articles on fagbook about Hillary and people that it's not even funny.
>researchers
Of what? This is worse than the (((computer scientists))) shit some time ago. Is knowing how to spot a bot what counts for research now?
So are they really fucking stupid and actually believing it was all bots?
Or are they fucking lying and know full well all of us weren't bots?
Or am I the only guy here that isn't a bot?
And under every fucking political post or youtube video, the commens would be fucking flooded all the time with trump bots, all repeating the same shit over and over
>yeah Trump said mean things but at least he wont start LE WORLD WAR 3 LIKE LE SHILLARY XD MONKEY FACE
>false news
>false news

Well, well, well.
(((false news)))
>Or am I the only guy here that isn't a bot?
>about 50 a day
Nigger, we damn near make that many posts an hour on here. How would that not be feasible for twitter?
>all this Trumpbot damage control
Kek.
Precisely because no one believes them anymore.
So they're going to hype "FAKE NEWS" (in articles that are, hilariously, fake news) to get google and twitter and facebook and friends to SHUT IT DOWN, especially if "it" involves criticizing fake news from the MSM.
They're scared user.
They want to destroy the competition by accusing it of doing exactly what they are doing. That why, of course, they are not the ones doing it.
And ultimately it's about controlling the flow of information. The media (and celebrities, I suppose you could say) have completely and utterly lost their powers of influence. They are fairly useless now, and they're sure as fuck not going to go back to being loss leading boring old news reporters.
Couldn't we hijack the "false news" narrative build by promoting trusted media watchdog groups?
Right now their tactic is to put the "false news" into peoples head in preparation to blacklist their competition. You could now hijack that, with a second push of something like GamerGate, to get people critical towards media. That would backfire their blacklist hard, as it will highlight the collusion.
People are ripe for hating media right now. Predictions failed. Narratives failed. Liberals are pushing their hate towards Trump, but right now they really hate the DNC and their media.
Second push of GamerGate under different name right now would kill the media.
When in the god damn hell did the phrase false news become so rampant I swear to god pre-election I didn't hear the phrase once and now suddenly it's just a normal phrase to throw around?
I dunno.
>Conspiracy theory
>Propaganda
>Fake news
I guess it makes it more casual and dismissive.
It draws a line between "real news" and "fake news" - between established brands and upstarts. It sounds less like accusations of conspiracy and propaganda and thus it is dismissed in a less confrontational way.
But at the same time, it also sounds weak and ineffectual.
Plus it's easy to refute.
>That news is fake
>No it's not
Whereas
>That's propaganda
>no, I just support candidate A, but the report is actually tr-
>yeah, so it's propaganda
I don't think it's going to work. They've failed at meme pushing. It will just be used in the lefty echo chambers of HuffPo and Salon, etc. But normies won't buy it.
Especially because it's so easy to apply to most MSM too.
Are these the same researchers who define a chatbot as any account that makes more than 100 posts per day?
>Nobody buys the mainstream bullshit
thats exactly why its happening, the media is desperately trying to rebuild its reputation after this election blew them the fuck out and showed every single one of them for what they are
>tfw you realize Alex Jones was right all along when he screams they're trying to shut him down
Like, a chatbot that just retweeted anything that said #trump2016 to #maga would count as a chatbot under their definition. I think peoples instinct is to envision bots pretending to be humans.
Probably like a significant portion of these bots are just dedicated to retweeting, and a significant portion is just dedicated to automatically posting content scraped from some source to twitter.
It's a bit interesting they saw a 5-1 disparity for trump since they didn't see that disparity during brexit when the amount of leave/remain chatbots was fairly close to overall leave/remain twitter activity. There was also a spike in activity right before election day. Really makes me think.
MSM got BTFO.
They're pissed. They're trying to redefine themselves as "real news".
They can't argue that they aren't propagandists, so they're using a pretty simple phrase;
>false news
It's almost like using the terms;
>Professional
>Amateur
>Sup Forums thinks that a group of conglomerates are trying to silence them
so the usual conspiracy theory trash?
They are a bit late with this "false news" narrative. Now, Trump has won and they are just desperate.
>It's a bit interesting
More likely it's a lie.
Wait a second. The NYT and company are LITERALLY claiming that there's a LUGENPRESSE?
>be Oxford researcher
>shill for the hill
>can't handle the bants from a shitposter
>FUCKING BOT
its not clear how many of those are Trump bots and how many of those are memesters, as that phrase sounds like something I'd say
What is their end game? Are they really going to try and scrub alternative media off the web?
merely a coincidence
>overwhelmed similar programs supporting hillary
they admitted her online support is fake, now they want to convince people donald's was faker
embarassing
Good point. We need to lambast WaPo, NYT, CNN, 538, politico, with their own fake news narrative
yes, they are that delusional
>Because the chatbots were almost entirely anonymous and were frequently bought in secret from companies or individual programmers, it was not possible to directly link the activity to either campaign, except for a handful of “joke” bots created by Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, they noted.
It was just a prank bro
Same thing with le alt-right. They un-ironically said the word has been around for years...
Since Soros met with prominent people from the DNC a day or two ago?
I saw a schedule of the meeting 2 days ago that was posted here.
Well I'm not on Trumps cock like the rest of this thread so I'm curious as to why people are so sure the researchers lied when likely other people have the same data they have, since they just pulled data from twitter, and could easily prove they are lying.
I remember Trump hiring seat fillers for his public appearances in 2012 and his early appearances in his presidental run (including that first one at Trump Tower). I also wouldn't put it past some of the guys that worked for Trump like Stone. That all being said I think it's even more likely that political bots were likely mostly made by people trying to promote themselves on twitter and various disorganised Trump supporters.
How long until the failing nytimes falls in line? They can't do this to Trump now that he's president.
False news = The new "wrongthink"
They will simply scrub it from facebook/twitter.
They will blacklist sites "known" to be sources of fake news.
Eliminate the competition.
facebook staff leaked details about their behavior to buzzfeed - a site notorious for lying and fake news - that claimed they had secret groups within facebook dedicated to eliminating "fake news" (which is probably 50 per cent true clickb8 and 50 per cent opposition media) against Zuckerberg's wishes, who called their claims ludicrous.
It's basically just an excuse for the establishment media to eliminate competition from their narrative building, because they know criticism and alternative sources killed their influencing power with Brexit and Trump.
Like keep in mind we're only talking about ONE website here, twitter, which was a pro-Trump hive to begin with.
Even if there were more pro-trump chatbots on twitter that doesn't mean overall there were more pro-trump chatbots on the internet.
...
I love the Fake News alert.
Re-appropriating our coincidence detector. Way to rub salt in the wounds.
its actually terrifying when you think about it
same with that "gold star" family thing, that was just weird
I don't know why people are still using kikebook
VK is superior in every way.
Morons are literally all posting the same thing, who would believe this?
He's not President yet.
Yeah, all of this, and see also: various anti-globalist media sites being blacklisted by google.
...
Because there is literally nothing in the data which suggests what they are suggesting.
I don't care about Trump either. It's just a bald faced lie.
Anyone who has been on the internet during the election days knows that this is just not true.
Won't this just push the alternative medias to get together and create alternative social media promoting free speech against a totalitarian and draconian mainstream media?
yea. we're fucked.
they're going to weaponize the zombies
and turn them against us.
No one believes it - hence the MSM failing.
Christ I hate the Danish media, they just spew the same garbage as the American one.

>Barack Obama: Fake news are a threat against the democracy
>The President of the United States is worried about the development of fake news on the internet.
>Google intensifies the fight against it.
and people still wonder how a group of people could possibly have lied about the holocaust and have gotten away with it
So what exactly is your problem with their methodology for determining what is and is not a chatbot?
Probably the only weakness I can see is if you knew of their criteria for a chatbot you could make chatbots avoid meeting the criteria and split their workload over more accounts.
Did you know "gab" is a RACIST, XENOPHOBIC, HATE SPEECH platform user?
But yeah, that's all that's going to happen. They're playing whack-a-mole
television attendance is at a 3 year low
even football is declining
I don't think they can recover desu
>false news.
this is their next agenda, to shut down places like brietbart and others that aren't the MSM.
This is GamerGate all over again. 50 guys and their sockpuppets memed a reality TV star into the White House.
oy vey
gamers are dead: politics edition
Are normies front lobes so damaged they do not see this? Maybe they really don't, good god. It is legitimate brainwashing
>>false news
>is that the new meme?
yes, they're pushing a narrative claiming that viral sharing of "fake news" on social media is why Trump won.
It's transparently a campaign to get facebook, twitter, google, reddit, etc etc to stop allowing people to post links to alternative media sources.
Their "methodology" for determining a chatbot starts with;
>If more people support Trump than God Queen Hillary, then they simply must be fake
That's where it begins and ends.
>ID Board
>still cant connect the dots
morons will be morons i guess
How? They have no power, and no political capital left.
A bunch of people's Tax Dollars was used to fund these liberal arts majors into wasting time and money doing this bullshit instead of curing shit like herpes.
This is why only STEM majors should be allowed to exist and everyone else should just go to Trade Schools.
>The study also defines chatbots as accounts that tweeted using an election related hashtag 450 times in the data collection period, about 50 a day. I post on Sup Forums 500 times a day
Yeah, good thing the morons are out numbered, if only but slightly.
Hahahahaha oh wow, so they are literally pushing the narative that (((you shouldn't trust anything except what we tell you, if anyone says we are lying, it's fake news)))
fucking (((media))) more like lugenpresse
Can't wait for 20 Jan, so that Trump can start draining that fucking swamp
I've pointed this out plenty, but I never hear euros talk about it. They literally copy and paste everything written here into their own language. It's free, plagiarized propaganda for their own citizens. It allows media/government to easily point fingers at issues that don't involve itself, for little to no work put in.
you mean single childless men who masterb8s to anime?
What do they even mean fake news? Have they referenced anything specifically?
DEFUND SANCTUARY CITIES
DEFUND LIBERAL/COMMIE SAFE SPACES
>gamers are dead: politics edition
You mean The Prequel.
>False News
>Bots
When will normies in academia just accept they lost?
What exactly is this 'false news' stuff everyone here is talking about
Wishful thinking, MSM are still storng
I meant the media is posting the same articles and headlines
Is this (((fake news)))?
thepoliticalinsider.com
Actually, let me clarify this a bit -
If your life dependend on this report on chatbots being 100% accurate - would you trust their methodology?
Or, would you say;
>This methodology we employed leads us to suspect Trump employed chatbots, and at a greater rate than Hillary
Because that's what a responsible journalists would say.
What they wouldn't do, unless they had an ulterior motive, was spam headlines across multiple platforms declaring emphatically that;
>DONALD TRUMP HAD A YYYUUUUGGGGEEE NUMBER OF CHAT BOTS SPAMMING FAKE NEWS
You would also probably, as a journalist, ascertain what this supposed "fake news" was.
Which they haven't.
The worst part is that Danes eat this shit up, my Jewbook is filled with liberals and their retardation.
How much damage (((they))) can deal until Trump become President?
holy fuck you haven't actually read the study there are so many retards in this thread that have decided to hate shit they didn't even read. Sup Forums is shit.
I think the amount of people that post on twitter with an election related hashtag 450 times over 9 days is actually pretty small and I would agree most accounts posting that often are likely automated.
Regardless I get peoples skepticism of the study, my biggest problem with it is that it narrowly focuses on twitter and I don't think accounts posting a shitton nessecarily means any propaganda is going on so I disagree with the conclusions being drawn. I just hate the retards in this thread going REEE ITS A LIE!
>Have they referenced anything specifically?
yeah, they cite apparent fake news cites that apparently had content go viral on facebook. some of them were the moldova sites they were talking about towards the end of the election.
it all sounds mostly made up to me. it screams 1984.
More like generally. Anything not on their TV networks or websites. If they don't also say themselves, then it must be fake.
They're effectively preaching to the choir, or more accurately those still caught in the illusion, labeling "Fake News" in the same way religions attempt to get the indoctrinated to cut ties with "outsiders". They're resorting to cult levels of persuasion given how few people listen to them now.
Even Obama is running with this fake news shit. Wtf?
Nothing compared to what the Wikileaks email batches did to them
>"bots"
400 lb hackers have feelings too senpai
But this will utterly murder any political discourse that still exists. If the lefties, globalists and shills all stay in one corner of the internet (and real life) and the righties, antiglobalists and woke people stay in the other corner of the internet (and real life) without ever interacting with, debating, discussing etc. it will just create radicalization on both sides - your political opponent will soon be percieved as the Other, the enemy that needs to be destroyed, rather than someone who disagrees with you on politics but is a human fucking being nonetheless.
>“They’re yelling fools,”
Wait, so what are they now?
Bots or fools?
they are the other
as soon as they try something they will be destroyed
