In Canada right now a drop in housing prices would mean a CRASH. Which would be bad. So a large influx of new renters would help keep rent demand high. Which would in turn help keep housing values high. Which would make it so all of the Good ol' Home owning canadians who are leveraged out of their minds on houses and CC's can keep paying their debts.
