SELF DRIVING CARS

Am I the only one who doesn't get it

>this is retarded

>one of Americans last true freedoms is being able to drive their car

Prove me wrong /pol. This whole self driving car thing is for the elites and it's to throttle untracked movement in the country

>be american
>get your car driven for you

you boys really are in a sorry state of affairs

I predict the self driving car thing will fail monumentally unless they get them managed on exclusive self-drive-car-lanes.
Otherwises the whole technology is doomed to eternal sue bills from accidents the AI made the "wrong decision"

Screencap this

the goal of the self-driving car is to restrict freedom of movement into pre-designated routes. also to put cars into a rental/lease system instead of the current ownership system.

I'm not screen capping your post because quite frankly nobody cares

>into pre-designated routes
This is clear, but unless they will have exclusive (read: self driving cars only) roads, this will fail.

This, the only country it'll work is Japon because it's a human country, contrary to all others that are subhuman central.

it will keep the shitcunts off the road and make it safer for most road users
self driving cars brake better than bitches on their mobile phones

> the goal of the self-driving car is to restrict freedom of movement into pre-designated routes. also to put cars into a rental/lease system instead of the current ownership system.

You are describing a bus.

You can still drive them manually you dipshit, and if you've a somewhat new car they're already tracking your every movement. Same if you've a cellphone. Or some sort of social media account.

Oh of course the swedishfish advocates for it

Sweden will have its day of reckoning soon
>w/o Sweden, isis wouldn't exist
Stop actively destroying WHAT my grandparents fought for in wwii

>Be me 10 years in the future
>roads all full of self driving cars
>finally had enough and decide to enact my plan
> go to garage and open door
>my prohibited Manuel drive 90's 1 ton Ford with 6" lift and massive bumpers awaits
> fire up the 460 cid motor and proceed to go on my self driving car death spree
> the self driving cars stand no chance as I go on a 2 hour spree smashing cars off the road left and right

>Otherwises the whole technology is doomed to eternal sue bills from accidents the AI made the "wrong decision"
Why would that be any worse that sueing due to humans causing accidents? You didn't think this out out very much did you?

The model 3 will be able to drive on normal roads just fine.

Prove it mario

>one of Americans last true freedoms is being able to drive their car

Cars serve to restrict your freedom, not increase it. Self driving cars are even more restricting, true, but it's the continuation of a trend, not the start of a new one.

Because instead of a single person causing an accident the whole company and the program code is responsible. Consider situations where in case of an accident the AI has to decide if the higher priority is to spare the life of a kid and prevent further damage or run into several cars and potentially kill a group of adult people. Bonus for women, disabled, black people etc.

I enjoy driving, take a fuckin bus if you don't.

>Because instead of a single person causing an accident the whole company and the program code is responsible.
So? Why should the insurance payout be bigger than is it was caused by a human?

You also need to prove the car was at fault and not some retard running onto the road without looking.

>Consider situations where in case of an accident the AI has to decide if the higher priority is to spare the life of a kid and prevent further damage or run into several cars and potentially kill a group of adult people. Bonus for women, disabled, black people etc.
The law in each country should make it clear what the car should be expected to do in each situation.

The jew won with automobiles. It became the ultimate Bernays-esque social experiment after smoking. People see cars as an extension of themselves and incorporate what they drive into their consciousness. Your personality is formatively manipulated the same way the clothes you wear define who you are.

For someone like me who has a phobia of driving cars, it's a godsend. Can't move stuff around town very well on my motorcycle.

Google has hundreds of billions to blow away

When they develop a working car prototype they'll buy a city-sized test ground and build the infrastructure for all these cars

Then they'll sell their infrastructure (C) to governments around the world, with cars made of technology that they own all the rights to, and with software that is owned entirely by Google.

Productivity will go through the roof. No one will die of a car accident ever again. You spend 1-2 hours a day commuting when now you can be doing work instead of looking at the road and listening to radio commercials

The whole world will be Google

...

Not an argument

self driving cars solve many issues
all of the death & horrific injuries are greatly reduced
self driving cars can travel as much faster speeds, way more than any speed a human could go
self driving cars will encourage neets to venture out & introduce a bit more people into the workforce for various reasons

i dont know why normies have a hard-on for driving manually, but get over it
this is one thing that is going to happen & will be signed into law, stating that only self driving cars will be allowed to on the road
period
get the fuck over it

this guy gets it.

No, you've got it all wrong. It's the next big innovation in automotive and it will benefit everyone.

>rich people start autopilot driving
>through experience, the algorithm becomes better and better
>after not too long, self driving cars are significantly safer (10-20x) than manual driving
>more and more people start having autopilot because it's in every new car from 2017 onwards
>after a while, enough people drive autopilots to call for legislation
>there are now seperate lanes for autopilots
>no longer having to deal with human error, autopilots can safely drive 250mph on the freeway.

Like all innovations, it will take a while to trickle down to cheaper cars but it'll be glorious when it gets there.

Ur going against the natural selection of highway Darwinism.

>let us evolve into better drivers

How can i clandestinely pick up hookers in a self-driving car?

But on the real, self-driving cars will be a huge positive for people with health problems who still need to drive.

Well clearly I'm colorblind

How do you ride a motorcycle but fear driving a car?

Of course you dont, because you probably have a car you like and you like to drive it. Well, half the country, women, dont give a shit about cars, they dont care what kind of car they drive, hell they probably dont even know the year, make or model. And 100% of women are going to vote to make driving illegal, that means it only takes 1% of men to remove your right to drive your own car taken away. Then your life will be at the mercy of your car and whoever is in control of it at the time.

So enjoy it while it lasts, cars have perhaps 20years left in them before they become illegal.

Until they get hacked. Then they'll start driving with no owners in them. And knock into another car. Nothing fatal, just a enough little knocks and scratches, flat batteries and low speed collisions to dent consumer confidence away from buying them. And we wouldn't want that to happen would we?

It's the eeriest technology I've had the displeasure of hearing might be actually possible. I find it liberating and American (pardon my nationalism) to be able to speed, run red lights if i want to, etc. A self driving car wouldnt have a "drive recklessly" setting, and so its just going to be government regulation moving even closer into private life. I wouldnt trust a self driving car, fuck that

Not that I want Google driving my car for me.... Buut that is the natural progression of the technology. It's not like their aren't mopeds and four wheelers and golf carts and kit vehicles and horses - all of which will provide alternatives to google cars. Get a grip, it's just the natural progression of the technology.

I'm working in that field. Give it another 10 years then you have very stable highly automated driving (note: not yet fully automated). Already know automated driving would be possible on highways, not 100% safe but more safe than manual diving.

In future manual driving is going to be illegal as it's much more dangerous - not only for yourself but for others as well.

Enjoy watching a drunk nigger run over your 2 year old daughter

You'll always have your mobility scooters, you gluttonous fucks.

Soon you'll be able to drive it just into the back of your cars and push the destination into a screen with your large, sausage fingers - and relax in comfort without the struggle of the steering wheel preventing you from eating your greasy meats.

Can't deny you make a good point.

And soon Mohammed will be fucking your girlfriend and you will be saying thank you. Fucking brit cuck

It is to try and help cut down on all the people that die each year from fucking idiots that do not know how to drive but have a license cause there so easy to get. It will also help with all the duck assholes out there. Unlike the other idiots in this thread i know it is not some government plan to control people cause most of these idiots are already controlled and tracked got that new cell phone guess what it tracks you for them. This is just someone trying to make life a little less dangerous cause people are idiots

I'm actually buying a newer used car next month, one without any navigation system or touch screen inside, and I will try to keep that car in great condition for as long as I can, since it might be the last time I can buy a car that doesn't drive itself.

I spend a fucking hour and a half of my life each day commuting. The drive is a straight line with some stops. There is no public transit option.

I want a self driving car so I can read or play videogames or eat breakfast or literally anything while my car drives for me.

>one of Americans last true freedoms is being able to drive their car

Really?

>be american
>have a car that can safely drive on our modern freeway system which was designed to accommodate driving speeds in excess of 100mph
>speed limits put in place during a time when cars couldn't drive above 70 without vibrating apart
>drive 10mph over the speed limit, but otherwise driving safely
>get pulled over by some cop because the local law enforcement agency decided it's more important to wait at speed traps than patrol ghettos
>have to cough up $300 to the local jurisdiction

Sounds like freedom to me.

Sounds like u just need another job

My computer doesnt surf the web for me. My gun doesnt patrol the house looking for intruders to kill. And I dont take the bus, because somethings dont need to progress.

yes i do

Your computer doesn't autobrowse

When Facebook did that for you you flipped out
You make $.0

I think the natural progression is less self driving cars and more, uncrashable cars.

Think about it, you retain the independence, the freedom of movement of driving yourself around. You can still speed, take shorcuts, go offroading etc. But if the car determines that you would hit an obstacle or crash in to another car then it will take control to avoid the collision.

I don't think we'll see "traditional" automobiles disappear any time soon, at least not within my lifetime.

Eventually yes your computer will. It's already come a long long ways. It already anticipates your meanings, Eventually it will read your mind.

I assume that comes from being more afraid for others than yourself, it's the only way that makes sense. What a bro-tier phobia!

The bus isn't the problem, replacing your car with a bus is the problem.

They used to call that, television. But it sucked.

No I said read your mind, not scrub it clean and reprogram it... But skynet will probably have that ability too at some point

Which all really begs the question, why are we letting in all these third worlders to drive taxis and trucks if we can simply automate these jobs?

This is the biggest lie about how we "need" unskilled labor. It can all be automated within a decade or two leaving us with an even larger underclass of those who are obsolete in the modern world.

All that matters is safety. If self-driving cars bring car injuries and fatalties down, then they're going to take off.
I was about to say all the dumb news articles showing how self driving cars are going to choose to kill the driver instead of a group of schoolchildren aren't going to override a singular fact of: You are X times more likely to die if you drive yourself. The way the stats are looking, you're about 10 times less likely to die in a self-driving car. Now if all cars were self-driving that could go to 100 times as being hit stops being an option.
Saving thousands of lives a year seems a good idea, as well as hundreds of thousands of injuries.
But- people are stupid so will pay attention to the scare stories about how self driving cars cause autism or something.

Uncrashable cars promote reckless driving. No car can promise to be uncrashable if someone driving it thinks that it'll bail them out. People will drive recklessly and the failure of a self-driving car to bail people out of stupid decisions is to be expected. Note the people who have already died because they thought their self-driving cars would bail them out of not paying attention to the road.

wow. did not expect this. top kek u got my vote

Will be funny when they take your license it doesn't mean shit anymore cause the car drives itself.

If you support self driving cars you are nothing but a cuck neet.

Haven't you read the news of google removing the option of driving manually ? Why would the industry want to "save" lives ?

Fucking cucks nu males afraid of driving and leaving their homes.

>the goal of the self-driving car is to restrict freedom of movement into pre-designated routes
>also to put cars into a rental/lease system instead of the current ownership system.
This man here knows whats up. just like how the cost of housing is through the roof and you're pretty much forced to rent (or live with your parents and save money till you're 30), it wouldn't surprise me at all if they'd do the same with cars. (((merchants))) don't want you to own stuff, they want you to owe stuff

why isnt spain better off?

FUcking podemos ^^^This guy getsit

> yeah let's all use self driving cars, what could go wrong ? they want to save lives !!
Your whole lives will be documented even the places you visit, all of that will be saved in huge databases for the government to keep on spying.

>untracked movement

If anything this will help the government keep more tabs on you, and possibly put you in danger if the hacker known as Sup Forums hacks your car and fucks with your route

Companies don't get sued because Joe Sixpack fails to brake and rams into a car, killing a family. Companies would get sued if Their software glitches, fails to brake, and rams Joe Sixpack into a car, killing a family.

People already drive recklessly. They always have and likely always will, it is simply part of human nature. I imagine that there would be natural incentives to not drive like a jackass. I mean if your emergency stop goes off so many times a month then I would assume your insurance would jack up their rates. There is always the police as well. Any area with enough people that recklessness is an issue will also have a police force. A hefty fine is a pretty good warning to most people.

My larger point is that there will always be people who choose personal freedom over collective safety. If any government tries to outright ban or curb non-self driving cars then they will automatically have made some enemies.

>car gets stuck in snow
>get out and push it
>it gets free and drives away

>Until they get hacked.
It's easy to make a car impossible to hack if you really want.

None of that shit you mentions really outweighs the benefits of self driving cars either.

And?

So the company pays out the damages of the crash instead of the person. The car is not any more expensive to run either way. It will actually be much cheaper because the self driving car will be much less likely to cause a dangerous accident.
