Less popular than David Letterman's term overall, I like to think it's because Colbert doesn't have the same charm, especially now that he's gone full libtard echo chamber, and the magnitude of guests is far less than what Davy had.
Like that's the worst of it, I've seen the same actors and democratic politicians on the Late Show to the point where it felt almost weekly, whereas David one minute had on Howard Stern, and the next minute ran fucking Hatsune Miku. Guy definitely had a grasp of audience range.

I remember watching the Daily Show back around 2002/2003 and at that time it at least kind of tried to pretend it was unbiased, but even then it was slanted pretty heavily left. Now they don't even pretend anymore, Colbert no longer does his "fake conservative" persona, and Samantha Bee has just been outright shilling for Clinton the whole time, she doesn't even tell any jokes. Or maybe she does and I just don't realize they're supposed to be jokes, that seems to happen a lot for me with female comedians.
