I wouldn't care, they couldn't be any worse than what people are capable of.

I think aliens have been here and I think the elites know but it isn't really a matter of concern. Any race that lasted long enough to develop interstellar travel has more than likely eliminated war in their own societies and so are unlikely to be hostile unless attacked. And with tech like that they've surely automated menial labor so there's no need to go dominate humans for a slave caste. As for resources they can get all they need without having to take it from earth. Everything is made of elements so they could synthesise most of it. Things like helium and other rare gases are abundant in space, just not here within our atmosphere. They've probably done some anatomical analysis of humans and other Earth life but won't outright give us the tech to get on their level. It's just too big of a step all at once, overwhelming.

Sure. I mean, it's most likely that we'll keep getting a better and better understanding as time goes on. We'll have new ways of looking at things, we'll have new experimental results, we'll have all kinds of experiences which will give us new insight into the universe. It's just that it doesn't look like we've got it entirely nailed down.

And indeed, it may be the case that the very nature of the universe will not allow for us to ever pin it down. That is, it may be impossible to gain enough information about it to get a complete picture. Think of this: in X billion years, if the universe continues to expand at it's current rate, then galaxies will be so spread out that the light in galaxy A will never reach galaxy B. Any species in our current level of development at that time would never know that the universe contains any other galaxy other than the one they're in. (Sure, there may be other ways to detect the other galaxies, but none currently known to physics.) The nature of our universe may be similar. It just might be that we can never obtain enough information to form a complete picture of our universe. But of course, this is not necessarily so.

People seem to think that since we've discovered so much with time, and that we keep honing our understanding, that the trend will continue to a "logical" conclusion that we will eventually know everything. But we have no way to confirm that we may reach (or may have already reached) an upper limit on physical/scientific knowledge. It may look like we'll figure it all out, but as of yet, there is no guarantee that the trend will continue.

I don't really see the allure of living on mars if it relies heavily on technology. Why can't they just colonize space? They already have space stations, and you can have them a lot closer to earth cutting down transport times/cost.

IMO I think elon is weaponizing science, just like software weaponizes hardware. What I mean is, he's designing and pushing for things that may not ever get made otherwise, I think that's a good thing. He's creating a "need" (possibly artificial) and hopefully innovators can come up with some cool ass stuff.

Well, technically we have such capabilities already, if we are willing to focus on such a task. We have plenty of theories on how we could, with modern technology, colonize the solar system. Its just that no one wants to spend the quadrillion or quintillion of moneys doing such a thing as the initial operations would take hundreds of years and would take hundreds more to return our investment. Ultimately we are too short sighted to see that as a possibility.
