Chess is way overrated. It doesnt requires a genius to play one, it requires good established chess "school" aka methodics of training.
Its more about memorization than about calculationg and plannign.
Go is a much better "intellectual" game, also it suffers from same weakness - the "skill" being reduced to learning and memorizing patterns.
It also required severe autism.

I'm a decent chess player (USCF/CFC 1950) and I forgot this thing was even happening. When I checked up on it today I was surprised to see the score even after 6 games. Nice job to Karjakin. Makes me feel bad I haven't played a game of chess for like 4 months though.

i think its rather a concentration game. its basically about avoiding mistakes and waiting for your opponent to make one.
You are only "decent", because you are doing it wrong. I actually know russian chess "school" and the reason why we have so many champions.
