Donald Trump has appointed the first fucking legitimate Attorney General since the Bush era: Jeff Sessions. He is 100% firmly opposed to any kind of marijuana legalization, and will likely enforce Federal laws in rogue states like Colorado and California.

1. The Senate is controlled by the Republicans, and they'll be able to get him appointed no problem. Ever since the Dems got rid of the supermajority confirmation vote (it used to be that 60 Senators would have to confirm appointees), it only takes a simple majority. The Republicans have this majority, so even if every single Democrat votes 'Nay' on appointments, it'll happen.

2. Appointing someone who isn't completely mired in scandal (like Chris Christie) is as easy as fuck in this kind of situation. No one wants to alienate themselves from President Trump (and the party proper) as soon as he takes office, especially because he has a stacked house/senate, and therefore can pass legislation that these congressmen/senators want to see passed, if they curry his favor.

Really don't understand what you guys have against pot. States that have legalized it haven't turned to bedlam and have made MILLIONS in tax revenue.

We need higher mandatory minimums for both possession and distribution - 5 years for possession, and 25+ for distribution/trafficking in my opinion. We need to hammer home that law and order will be restored, and we have to bring these rogue states to heel.

Sessions is absolutely, 100% going to shutter all of the pot grows and pot shops on day 1 as it stands. Like, it's already over at this point. However, I think he needs a strong drug reform platform as well. Make sure people know that the law is out there, and that there are real consequences for using pot.
