I don't want to stick my dick in a microwave

I'd rather wait until space tests.

Everything

Haven't heard of either
how about YOU explain what an EM drive is

You just described American media when we have no election to talk about. Bravo Brazil

There is an episode of Sliders. They find a world in which scientists are the celebrities.

It was freaking unbelievable.

Wait, what about Kim Kardashian's farts? I'd drag my dick through a mile of broken glass just to hear one squeak through a walkie talkie.

Does this mean we can go on star trek space adventures now?

If not the public won't give a shit

Kim Kardashian farted?

It's a wibbly woobly microwavey bouncy cone mate.

It needs to be made great again.

>>Not even mentioned in any major news outlet

I read "major jews outlet". Time to get out of here.

i've been following emdrive like a few other similar /x/ level technologies (does anyone remember ECAT?) for a few years now.

Emdrive MAY have just tipped pas the point where it's a weird cult thing into being a true scientific curiosity. I'll keep following with interest-- but if true it will truly make colonizing the solar system a real possibility.

The confirmation of EM Drive's functionality is a challenge to our knowledge of physics. A lot of theoretical physicists will need to take their head's of-of their asses in order to accept this as a fact.

Magical meme machine that can't possibly work at all but the internet pretends it works

AND THEN IT DID

Well to be fair OP, Kim's farts produce magnitudes more thrust than the EM drive.

In all seriousness, though, I'm an electrical engineer PhD student and I just passed the EagleWorks paper around to my colleagues. Not saying we have SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING, but we will probably shoot the shit about the paper over the next few days.

This but working.

Better explanation ever.

One paper doesn't exhaust or explore all the potential explainations for this phenomenon. It's interesting, but will likely fit into existing theory when the description is right. Then again, until someone has a working description of the phenomenon, we need to be looking for an explanation.

IDGAF about going to space

If legit its a technology that some random guy accidentally discovered in his shed, and given how it operates it could be utilized to create a planet destroyed super weapon on the cheap. I think the apprehension is pretty well justified.

>major news outlet
That's the problem user, there are no major NEWS outlets. They are all propaganda machines.

>has a working description of the phenomenon
I may be wrong, but there was a test in japan, and at least two in the US

Underrated

Major JEWS outlets.

experimental proof != theoretical description

Litteraly a microwave in a bucket, generates trhrust defying the newton laws

what do you think the em drive smells like haha?

for once the shitskin brazilian is correct about something other than soccer

...

>it could be utilized to create a planet destroyed super weapon on the cheap

The average person doesn't care about things that won't affect them. Period.

The average person is also too stupid to comprehend the possibilities that come along with breaking commonly acceptes scientific fact therefore our understanding of the Universe is further away from our grasp.

>memes put a madman in the white house ensuring 4 years of laugther were all the crazy shit may happen
>mEMe Drive is accepted by NASA and we will be able to expand throug the Solar System powering our ships with memes

What a year to live!

Spit my drink out ya cunt

didn't they say the thrust produced was too insignificant to be of use?

yeah newtons laws were never refuted before, oh wait

Fuckin lol

>yfw Trump declassified it

In other words, we have the proof, but not a theory or equation that explains it yet. If it fits within current science, then we just haven't properly described the system. If if doesn't fit, we do science and try to fit a model for the phenomenon, keeping in mind that this doesn't BTFO of previous science, but will most likely be a limiting case of something else. Expect the former, hope for the latter. Either way it's an interesting experiment that warrants further study.

ill just leaf this here

>Makes headlines and all the world talks about

Not in any media I am following..

According to what I have read, the thrust is constant and so it will accelerate indefinitely in space, shit would change the world if it actually works

Because forbes.com/sites/startswithabang/2016/09/02/nasas-impossible-space-engine-the-emdrive-passes-peer-review/#1fc1049f692c

How much thrust to weight ratio those the EM even produce? Also, the only reason I see humanity going beyond the Moon is to take minerals from the asteroid belt and that's it

In atmosphere yes, but in space you could strap a source of energy to it and use it for interstellar travel

How fast does it accelerate?

All those faggots at Reddit BTFO
Oh the ass pain is so good.

first versions was weak, thrust was within margin of error
refined versions currently at 1/30 of a gas powered engine

>mfw troll physics are real

Is Forbes not major?
>forbes.com/sites/briankoberlein/2016/11/19/nasas-physics-defying-em-drive-passes-peer-review/#41b0813876e2

>Slap Emdrive and solar panels onto a tungsten pole
>Accelerate until it approaches relativistic speeds
>Slam it into planet
Propellantless drives are some scary shit.

You are black

so basically nuclear reactor + em drive = acceleration as long as the reactor lasts?

Sauce faggot?

this is likely a mEMe... the right path is ZPE, this has only potential to travel in our own solar system, ZPE instead could make us explore the galaxy and take us to Proxima Centauri

approx. 5 mN per kW fuel

Yes

should keep that shit to yourself faggot

It's not humanity's fault.

It's the privately owned sensationalist media that prioritizes gossip over education.

Yes. But nuclear reactors are heavy, so you just added a few extra tons of mass to your payload, and now it will take you a few years to get a significative change in velocity. It might be useful to explore near the Sun where your solar cells can give you way more power and are extremely light.

>1.2 +/- 0.1 μN
FTFY

Can we proper mobile suits with it?

thank Jesus for autism like your mum thanks for my cock

google it you ape

btw kys
arc.aiaa.org/doi/10.2514/1.B36120

*propel mobile suits with it

thi is just on paper, there is no working version because it doesnt work which was proven by Dana Bash on CNN who said its basically a hoax.

true but a nuclear reactor can produce 500+ megawatts on a tiny amount of fuel 24 hours a day 365 days a year

It actually does

>What is wrong with humanity?
Everything. Opposable thumbs were a mistake.

> believing CNN
no

Has anyone got any theories on why Kim suddenly began farting so much?

Is she on protein shakes? Is it a mating dance to persuade Kanye for anal? Is it a feminist thing?

any thoughts guise

literally meme magic

You achieved maxmimum redpilledness, and are now equipped with a sixth sense. Congratulations

why dont they just use nuclear bombs

if it was a mistake the mutation wouldn't have risen towards biological superiority. stick to banking you dense Swede moron

Kek demands you do it

this shit was reversed engineered, wasn't it?

Detonating nuclear bombs in space is illegal.
I don't think it's legal to even bring them there in the first place.

Fuck. I'm old enough to have watched that shitshow.

Basically some scifi nerds decided to build a science fiction engine for space travel as a joke and holy fucking shit it works.

Which is a big deal because everything we know about gravity just got thrown out of the window. It's a big deal because it works and we don't understand why it works. It should be impossible everything we know says it shouldn't work. Yet it does, which is an even bigger deal because if such a bedrock of the scientific community can be proven to not mean jack shit then how many other "universal laws" are we completely fucking incorrect about. . Space colonization soon.

>EM Drive

of course it works. how else do you get recoil from laser rifles?

too bad 80.000 lightyears are still too far or we could visit old earth on the outer end of the Sagittarius arm in the milyway galaxy.

Device that defies Newtonian physics via meme magic.

>proven by Dana Bash on CNN
dropped

The problem with the thing is it has very little thrust, so they will have to understand it in order to improve it. Right now science still says it shouldn't exist.

Yes yes they did say that. SO WE JUST NEED TO MAKE IT LARGER. WITH MORE MICROWAVES AND BUCKETS! AND POWER IT WITH THE VERY HEART OF A STAR!

Hey guys think we can meme this thing into making space nazis a thing?

>It's a big deal because it works and we don't understand why it works.
Bruh, maybe they're just photoshopping it and really doesn't work.
Think about it...

I think we already succeeded, just watch the events unfold. Sudden white pride worldwide + this and we are there

Bruh what if we can photoshop our ships to space

the people who consume certain news outlets do not care about the magic microwave space machine

i'm sure there are circles distributing this news that are interested in it, but I guarantee if this came up in something like People Magazine the average reader would skip the page. Why would they waste the space?

You know I think that would be bad in the end

People would become scientists just to be famous. Scientists would be corrupted by their lifestyle and public spotlight.

Right now, one of the few pitfalls in science is some scientists jump at the credit of making the next breakthrough. They may want it so desperately they make bold claims without evidence or outright falsify their research, just to be famous among other scientists knowing their name will never be uttered in a household. Can you imagine the perverse incentives if they were rewarded with an endless supply of pussy, bling, and drugs?

>Right now science still says it shouldn't exist.
I hate it when people say that shit. No scientist ever says "this shouldn't exist" in a situation like this.

Also, if you read the Eagleworks paper rather than just post on 4gay, you'd see in their conclusions that it's 2 orders of magnitude (read ~100+ times more energy efficient than other zero propulsion systems (although admittingly you aren't having to power a solar sail, the sun does that).

That's different. Electromagnetic waves can transfer energy to a separate object by shifting to a lower energy wavelength.

Something different is happening with EM drive though because the system causing the momentum is entirely self contained. Which is just fucking goofy.

No some dude noticed old satellites with microwave transmitters in them going all fucky and out of orbit and decided to look into it and built the memedrive.

the first tv signal send around earth and into space was a speach made by hitler. so any alien recieving a tv signal from earth will first see hitler and listen to him talking. think about it, you're Sup Forums and should know what will happen to those listening to hitler.

I don't know man. I want to be excited. I miss when science was SCIENCE! Now it's all "that goes against the law of bla bla bla" or "we know that won't work because it's not possible!" Or "that's entirely unethical!"

The only thing unethical is not having a control group. Scientific discovery shouldn't be weighed down by what's possible. People should try it just to try it even if established dogma says it doesn't work and if it doesn't work then try to make it work. We should be focused on breaking the laws of the universe and pioneering technology not creating newer and better viagra pills and hair regrow formulas.

If I could get the funding you best believe I'd be working on suits of man it above man sized power armor.
