The fact of the matter is, pepe was never a "symbol of the alt-right". He was just a silly reaction image that started on Sup Forums, but spread to tumblr and reddit.
It only became a hate symbol when Trump jr rettweeted that "deplorables" image, and desperate to score any sort of points against Trump, Hillary said it was a hate symbol.
There wasn't a slow transformation of pepe from becoming an innocent meme to a hate symbol over many months. It wasn't fretted over at all for the longest time. It was the very second that Hillary said it was a hate symbol that it became a hate symbol.
She said it, and then tried to make it true after the fact, just so she could say a post retweeted by trump jr was racist.
But the election is over now. There is no need to keep forcing this reality. So why do it? To save face? Or so they can keep pointing to that once tweet and accuse it of being racist during the presidency?
It seems like pissing in the wind at this point.

Matt Furie needs to realize that Pepe as a meme is completely different from Pepe as a Boy's Club character. I believe there are very few people who have read his comic books on Sup Forums and they shouldn't because they're incredibly boring with dumb stoner humor.
