That's why I added the provision that incumbents would be grandfathered in. Anyone who was an incumbent at the time it got voted in would be exempt from the term limits, they'd only apply to new people elected from then on. Would that make it a lot easier to sell it to them, do you think, or would they still refuse even though their jobs were secure?

I suppose it could do that, but then the new senators would feel ripped off essentially. And the argument would still stand of it being a "violation of freedom of expression." That's the arguments I've heard (mostly from conservatives) against the idea of term limits and I think that's the line of thought they will take. Even if the old fucks are kept on until they die. Politicians protect their own, and they have probably been grooming younger senators to take their mantle for awhile, so those young senators will want the same privileges as the old guard.
