You have to ask yourself...why are large corporations like Target, Wal-Mart and so forth the ones pushing for a minimum wage increase?

heritage.org/research/reports/2005/10/wal-marts-perverse-strategy-on-the-minimum-wage

That's fine and all but shocking the current economic climate with a massive rise in the minimum wage is NOT conducive to an effective economy. It only makes everything worse for everyone.

in 2006 congress passed a minimum wage increase which unfolded over 2 years incrementally increasing to eventually $2 more to $7 and some change federal minimum wage

do you know what happened durring that time? in 2007 there was a quarter that was the worst for housing sales in 13 years and the following year after the full increase hundreds of thousands of jobs lost each month for multiple years consecutively no breaks

but hey how would a fancy lad in the UK who wants to be enriched by ahmed know any of that. he didnt have to see it happen im sure he was more enthralled by the royals doing stupid shit

They're pushing for it because they're the only ones who can afford it. It crowds out their only competition from smaller competitors and they get an excuse to understaff and save some cash.

yeah
im going to need a real source on that
why in the world would companies jump at the opportunity to hire people at a higher wage than at a lower wage?

Hours worked and average take home pay?
What industries saw the largest pickup in employment?
Were the increases sustained? Or were they temporary spikes?

My bet would be a large proportion of full-time positions were lost to an increase in part-time jobs resulting in a slightly net positive increase in employment.

>150,000 full-time positions lost for 175,000 part-time jobs
>Unemployment down 0.2%
>"Minimum wage hikes work!"

Employment figures are the easiest crock of shit to fudge.

>politifact

why are you worried about the american minimum wage you BRITISH

Is it difficult to understand that if you pay people more they will spend more money, which continues to fuel the economy and goes back into the companies that are paying the salaries?

That messy formatting. Those ugly colours. Uggh. Pointless argument totally overshadowed by nasty design.

would that be the four times the minimum wage was increased to match inflation?

(aka not materially increased)

Was going to write this, see that is already here and I go out this thread.

You understand, right, that the proposed minimum wage hikes are supposed to be implemented gradually, as is almost always the case?

Oh. No. You don't understand that at all.

There are circumstances under which a min. wage hike will decrease joblessness, like those we're currently under.
>the min. wage hike proposed is actually lower than the current prevailing market-clearing wage
>the min. wage hike proposed is higher than the current prevailing unemployment insurance benefit

A better way to frame the issue is: why not a $100/hr. min. wage? And suddenly you'll find Democrats talking like Paul Ryan.

These guys get how the min. wage issue can be weaponized.

Nice source

There have been at least 10 minimum wage hikes since 1978, and joblessness only fell 4 times. How is that a good pattern?

Minimum wage jobs are for teens and people trying to build a work history. The fastest way to increase your wage is to become a really good at a niche trade. Law of supply and demand. Only fuckfaces and dipshits would try and live out life on a minimum wage job.

The other thing, is minimum wage workers only account for about 3% of all employed people in the US.

Bottom line, you are either young, dumb, or weak willed if you let minimum wage be a barrier to your earning potential.
