I don't think they understand what unrestricted warfare with developed countries looks like. WW1 and WW2 scared most of the world into never thinking about doing it again. They have a romanticized view of war where they fight against enemies that ignore their civilian population and resources. They think they can still fight wars with infantry and snackbars alone like in other islamic wars centuries ago, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria have reinforced the meme.
In reality aircraft will just bomb food and water supplies, civilian population centers, anything industrial and they would all be dead without external aid in a few months.
