Actually I think a few WW2 games did a good job in just staying clear of the whole Nazi's had a patent on war crimes thing. Off the top of my head I want to say Hidden and Dangerous (2) or Company of Heroes (2).

CD Project could have gone the way of almost any other recent fantasy rpg and randomly filled the world with non-white NPC's but instead they stuck with a demographic that made you feel like in a medieval setting where people would usually be born and die in the same village. The only "foreign" characters are some traders in the first expansion (the enhancement guy), and that was tastefully done, as he is a traveler from mythical lands far away.
i tried it but its too boring. once you get armored guys, you basically won, because enemy builds nothing besides basic infantry and archers
