In communism where does art come into play? It seems like in communism there would be no reason for movies, paintings, music, or anything else that is a net loss of utility to exist. Wouldn't they just be a waste of time/resources if there is no money to be made?
Why should the state allow some people to go off and waste time perfecting their acting ability while everyone else works in the fields?
The only reason I can think of is to entertain the serfs so they do not kill themselves, keep the workforce complacent and entertained, or training spies.

Arts would thrive as before, and even more when people are freed from menial labour and can pursue their artistic passions freely. Movies/Games/Music with expensive budgets are made for future revenues. Unless the artists are already rich enough to support themselves most art would not be made if it weren't for monetary returns.

You don't understand. Communism is means a classless, moneyless, stateless society. There would be no concept of revenue or monetary richness. Everyone's needs would be provided for. Thus there is no need to worry about whether movies/games/music would generate profit.

Most art is made from the incentive of money. True artists would make art in their leisure, but lots of great art is made to make money. Marx did not believe in abolishing money.
