My grandmother who has always been the book keeper in the family said she feels sorry for me and and kids today as prices for things like insurance and groceries are completely outrageous. She grew up rather poor and now is rather rich so shouldn't things seem less expensive to her now that she isn't poor?

We were on the gold standard back then....

And once we did away with the gold standard... money became fiat.

So every time the govt prints more money, money becomes less valuable, so you need more of this less-valuable money to buy things.

The lot value went up because the developer started selling homes to rich people through marketing the idea of become part of "our" community. First it started by destroying a forest that was a community party spot to put up condos and town homes. It was public games lands that the governor of our state opened up to real estate development. Seriously, this was a town of around 6500 people and there would easily be 3-400 people partying in the woods every weekend.

So they stole that from us. My house use to be right next to the woods, I even had a stream I could fish in. Developers kept dumping shit into my stream and killed the fish. I do a lot of gardening and canning and I couldn't garden edibles on my property anymore because of how polluted the water was. They'd just dump the oil from their heavy equipment into the stream. Only took them 4 months to cut all the woods down and move out so the evidence was gone by the time they were finished.

Due to the proximity of my house to the new townhouses, they completely fucked the value of my home. Considering my home was now worth 340,000 I was forced into a higher income tax bracket. On paper I made $280,000 in one years and had to pay taxes on it. Took them to court and lost, I was forced to pay $36,000 in taxes that year, that was 80% of my savings. The taxes on my house went from $3200 a year to $13,000 a year. didn't find that out until taxes came in. Tried to fight that and lost. took me a year to sell my home so I had interest on my 2014 taxes to pay and my 2015 taxes. So, yeah, now I'm living in a shit hole trailer park with 20 years of savings stolen from me.

I have to leave for work in 20 minutes so this will probably be my last reply. I live in a state on the east cost that has had an influx IT startups. My small town lives near a highway that is only about 25 minutes from said city. Instead of kicking the niggers out of the city, they just redeveloped the white areas. Now it's all multicultural, no one parties anymore, everyone sticks to themselves. Everyone has a fucking fence now. Then you go into the city for work and people are getting robbed. The city is hushing it up as best as it can, but about 3-4 times a year groups of people will randomly get together and beatup/rob the rich IT people moving in.
