I don't think this is anything new, but it has been exacerbated by the recent elections. If "undesirables" associate themselves with Trump it's because Trump represents them better then any other candidate. Republicans have to deal with it now. However, it's a mistake to label all Trump supports as alt-right, because there's many reasons not to support the democrats that aren't alt-right.
