I think you are discovering the nature of pro-self vs pro-social behavior. Technically, one is regarded as moral even though from a higher topology, neither is. Each has perfectly good arguments.
If you pursue this, you discover why negros are still around despite less social skill, why they appear as criminals in white society, and why such genes are naturally occurring and tend to linger, and its not a bad thing. Many of the traits you find in criminals become assets when put in uniform or simply for survival. Its just that you cant do both equally well. SInce form follows function, it helps if you are adapted more to one than the other. There is more to it than just choices after an epiphany. It both requires and reflects a certain aptitude for either.
