Different mostly. A lot of overall similarities of course, but character motivations and personalities differ enough to make the two of them stand apart quite a bit all said and done. If I had to I'd probably rank NGE higher based on pure emotional impact, a friend of mine prefers RX. We both like both of them.
The RX movie suffers from trying to shove an entire TV series into the runtime of a movie, so much as expected.
