Kanon's MC is essentially Kyon, as he is voiced by Sugita as well. This is one of the main reasons I watched the show too.

Air Movie is far better than the convoluted mess of a TV show, and you've said nothing to prove otherwise.

The movie brought a greater sense of focus to a smaller cast of characters. It wasn't anywhere near as convoluted as the TV Series.

To put it another way, the plotline the movie focuses on is more bazaar than the same plotline as seen in the series.

It makes more sense in the VN and ties directly to the multiple-route gameplay mechanic. They had to change things a bit to make it work as an anime.

Also if they decided to end it with Nagisa staying dead they would have had to do an overhaul on the whole story.
