I'm an agnostic atheist, I see several ways in which there could realistically be sth like a god:
(1) if we are living in a computer simulation, then whoever is running/debugging it has pretty much god-like powers over us
(2) if there exist higher spatial dimensions than the three we are confined in, and if there are intelligent creatures in there, then they are god-like to us (like the 3D creatures in "Flatland" are to the 2D Flatlanders)
(3) ???
(4) PROFIT

I should say that in both case, there could even be something like an afterlife, if you think about it. In a computer simulation, the process that gives you your consciousness could be assigned to another entity, in a different environment (even a sandbox). For the (2)nd case, it could be conceivable that whatever physical phenomena that give rise to our consciousness are bound to our 3D bodies while we are alive, but can be disconnected from it while the body dies (however, since nothing seem to happen when we are virtually braindead during anasthaesia, this seems unlikely).
