I liked the town they lived in, felt vory comfy and Sora no Woto like. Didn't care much for the leveling up video game points system it had but I think it could've worked as a high fantasy piece if you removed the Isekai logo but then again that was probably just to get it to sell.

I marathoned Grimgar after the season ended and I had just gotten through the sufferfest that was Schwarzesmarken. I thought it was pretty comfy and I liked the themes of vengeance and seeking closure.

The isekai part really only lasted through the first episode and then they literally forgot the other world. I ignored it.

Character development or not it still is a bland anime.

The party was retarded even by isekai standards and showed no signs of improving fast. It's amazing even after you think they learned their lesson, they still manage to lose party members.

Now that you mention it is was odd how they never brought up the isekai element again.

I liked it a lot, it's like isekai meets iyashikei. All those insert songs, long panning shots, and scenery porn really made me immerse myself into the world and enjoy their hardships.

Oh and Jesus Smith is telling Haruhiro the "one way" asspull to save Mary or himself who knows.

I liked that actually. How they didn't know the roles for each of the characters and Manato kept taking on more responsibilities to support the team as the leader. It's hard not to stay behind when you know you can do more to help in his position.

The atmospheric feel and the "different" take on isekai—which isn't really isekai; just fantasy forced to integrate isekai elements because it's the trend—doesn't really carry the story. Very little happens in the world in general, making it a very weak fantasy in the aspect of worldbuilding, and the slow development of the main cast as adventurers eventually feels dragging on.

Call this exaggeration, but Grimgar feels more like Angel Beats!, the fantasy series.

The first three episodes were somewhat interesting because it felt like babby's first DnD campaign. Then it just botched itself with horrible pacing, bland as fuck characters except ironically that annoying dude, muh healslut, and that retarded mystic eyes of death perception at the very end.

Good OST and background though. That's about it really.

Didn't like how they went anime original with the fight. It was a group effort, with Ranta also saving Yume from him, that injured Death Spots enough for Haruhiro to use the Shiki finisher.

Instead they decided to ripoff Danmachi and have Haruhiro solo him
