Congratulations to France for finally hosting the nephew of their most famous thief!

Congratulations to France for finally hosting the nephew of their most famous thief!

Is this co-produced with France like part IV was co-produced with Italy? Because Lupin the VIII wasn't that great, just saying

All hail the new jacket

I'm thankful the rumors of black jacket turned out to be untrue.

People still seems to belive that, which is weird considering that in the latest movie Lupin wears black for like two minutes

nice try, part 4 episode 18

i'd like to see him in orange though

>lupin goes to france
>suddenly he worships Allah and fujiko wears a burka

great

hah

...

> implying it won't be the other way around

>Because Lupin the VIII wasn't that great, just saying

Honestly, it was pretty decent for something that wasn't finished.

Can't find a single article in English about this announcement. Does mainland Europe just have more respect for the series than US/UK?

Yes, it was big in France and Italy where they like anime and manga more then the English speaking world.

It's not really that well known in France either, it wasn't big in the 80's here like Hokuto no Ken or Dragon Ball were.
I guess it's the same as how the previous series that was set in Italy was well advertised there for the occasion.

Yes, also MonkeyPunch is a big fan of both italy and France

There's one from ANN, but that barely even counts.

Speaking of Monkey Punch, what the heck ever happened to Mankatsu? That one anime that was basically an anthology of his non-Lupin works.

I can't seem to find raws let alone subs for the damn thing.

>zenigata chasing lupin
>suddenly lupin puts on a burka and runs into a crowd of frenchmen

It was among the first anime we had in France though. Less popular than the others for sure, but a lot of people will at least have heard about Edgard le Cambrioleur.
Too bad the localization policy at the time was "change everyone's name".

Manga scans anyone?

Or Goemon movie artbook scans?

few weeks ago some user offered to scan the artbook but i don't know if he delivered

Are you asking for them or do you have them?

Remake of the episode where Lupin and Zenigata are chained together when?

by the way with this event we could have a french reedit of lupin the third

new scanlations coming

Have you saw part 4?

i meant a reedit of the manga

i only have this english edition for now

Ah really? I've never heard of Edgard le cambrioleur, though I was born in the early 90's so that was all before my time.
It was a shitty idea not to keep the Lupin name for sure.

Non-stop Rendez-vous from Part IV
is that tokyopop release? i heard it's a pretty bad translastion but i didn't know there were any scans of it, please share

Asking for. My bad for not being clear.

Yup, I know, I was the user who asked for them back then too. And I haven't noticed him posting it the times I checked here.

do you know that wearing a burka is illegal in france ?

This doesn't stop yellow from happening

If you don't mind, could you upload those please?

Why do you keep making these non stop Lupin threads? Give it a rest until we actually have something to talk about holy shit.

The only things I noticed about the quality of TokyoPop's Lupin translations was that there were spelling errors regarding character names in early volumes and a generous amount of swearing added.

These things aren't TOO bad, especially considering the awful shit Initial D fans had to put up with with TokyoPop's releases of that series. But it's still not ideal.

Actually, nothing about the amount of translated Lupin manga is ideal.

IIRC, the name change was because the Leblanc estate got buttblasted and refused to let them use the Lupin name.

thanks user

Any of you fuckers were at Japan Expo?

Japan Expo sucks dicks

...

What the actual fuck? After seeing this stuff like this looks like a hell of a deal

I just saw it this week in Shoukoku no Altair.
Japs really like Mont Saint-Michel.

Is this stuff they were actually serving at the event?

Yeah, it's hilariously overpriced, which is why anyone with half a brain brings their own food.

the second is an old photograph but the first one is an actual event sale i think, maybe it's not japan expo though but it's in the same order of shit

i think that's JE though

Nice to know that it's not just American venues that jack up the prices to ridiculous amounts.

What? Then we can't have Lupin threads? I have discovered about that only today, not everyone get a news the day one

There have been a couple of threads since the announcement but most of them died pretty fast, so I don't blame you if you missed them.

So, if they decide to have an ongoing plot for this series, do you think Lupin's family legacy will play a part in it?

That would be cool, like seeing Lupin doing something releted to Lupin the first or the second

Thanks a lot

Can't wait for the storyline where Lupin loses the legal right to his name and has to call himself Edgar.

so meta

Shitty unoriginal jokes aside, I'll be a little disappointed if there aren't a few meta things thrown in there.

So is the story about them asking the audience about what they should use for the next jacket true?

I would be actually triggered if they use blue again

This is the first time I've ever heard of such a story.

There was already a Lupin tv special that used it as a big set piece. I can't remember which one it was though.

It's been said in one of the past threads, i dunno how true it was, i was asking for someone who was there to confirm it

The Tokyopop translations are essentially guess subs. They add a ridiculous amount of information and omit just as much of the original text. If you look at the text bubbles, it's like the translators were hired to fill as much of each one as they could, each with its own witty beatnik-slang joke.

I keep considering giving retranslations for the series, but there just doesn't seem like that much demand.

You remember any other details about it?

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I'd sure as hell would read a re-translation of the series.

Since TokyoPop's volume are out of print, folks are gonna drop a lot of money just to be able to read it. That the translations are wrong on top of all that just makes it all the more infuriating.

Found it. TV special 16. "Stolen Lupin ~ The Copy Cat is a Midsummer's Butterfly~"

Rewatching the scenes now though, it wasn't the actual Saint Michel, just a location based on it, but with another name and some design differences.

Still, they even referenced how depending on the water level it gets completely surrounded by water.

IIRC the titular Castle of Cagliostro is also partly based on it.

To be honest though, translating Monkey Punch is difficult as hell. Japanese is a low-context language, but his books are full of regional slang and an indirect way of speaking that's pretty confusing.

And every character looks the same so it's hard figuring out exactly who's saying what.

I'll keep the thought on my backlog of series to get around to though.

Is that supposed to be Mont St. Michel?

At the very least, thanks for considering it. It'd be crazy to expect anything, especially since translation is time consuming enough as it is.

It's Totally-Not-St-Michel.

Can't wait for the food.
