It was literally Getter Robo though. Not saying it was a rip off, but it was clearly structured from the idea of Getter Emperor and abusing Getter rays.

However, the whole "self-improvement" theme was more original to TTGL. It was the whole core of the drill thing if I remember.

Gurren Lagann is tied better thematically. It doesn't matter if an idea was used before. Nothing is truly original: everything builds off something that came before. That's the way a drill works!

The idea of the spiral nemesis and the need for both people who have a sense of forward progression (Kamina, Simon) and those who think for the future and slow down progress before it gets too fast and we overplay our hand (Roseau, Lordgenome)

A high school drama is a drama centered around the difficulties of high school and relationships within. Haruhi doesn't have that, K-On! has no drama, Tamako isn't even set in high school. Clannad is the only Keyshit set in high school but it has a much heavier focus on supernatural and tragedy, not high school shit.

Like I said, only Eupho really fits that bill, and honestly you could argue its more of a sports drama than a high school drama. I think Free is the same way, but I haven't watched it.
