What's the best cyberpunk anime?
What's the best cyberpunk anime?
Bubblegum Crisis.
boku no pico
>overrated crisis
Does Sup Forums like bubblegum crisis Tokyo 2040?
Akira
Only the first of those is Cyberpunk
How so?
Go look what cyberpunk means.
Is that even cyberpunk?
Cyberpunk outside books can look cool, but is totally shit plot wise. Too much jargon and technobabble to represent in an anime, movie, tv series etc.
Psycho pass is 100% cyberpunk?
>Sup Forums being patronizing about things despite being 100% wrong
This is always so fun to watch.
Gatchaman Crows + Insight would qualify, but it was pretty meh.
Shitpost somewhere else.
I tried to watch the first episode, and I didn't like it. I thought the sound design was poor. Do you think I should give it another try?
I mean, Psycho pass, Lain and Texnholyze lack elements for being considered fully Cyberpunk. Maybe we could define them Post-Cyberpunk
You are a moron.
He's not completely wrong, but I don't make the distinction between cyberpunk and postcyberpunk.
its post-cyberpunk along with lain and tex is kinda post-cyberpunk too
SAC is also post-cyberpunk where is the movie/manga are classic cyberpunk
Nice argument
Ghost in the Shell, because there really isn't any other cyberpunk anime out there. The others you list are sci-fi, but cyberpunk needs to have that grimy look of salvaged technology cobbled together with concrete ghettos.
It's gotta have cyborgs, graffiti and trash covered streets, ramen stands run by robots, and hard boiled detectives solving mysteries and shit.
Isn't Texhnolyze exactly like that?
you forgot mega-corps basically running the county
Isn't Bubblegum Crisis exactly like that?
Not even that. Cyberpunk was about wanting to topple or at least resiste the system.
Motoko IS the system.
Grey: Digital Target
If you don't know what cyberpunk is, don't make up a bunch of garbage. There is nothing that compels you to contribute to every thread.
To much retro futuristic
Yes, but she's still a simple pawn that lives a low-life
B8
Given that "cyberpunk" by the original definition is someone using computer technology to empower themselves - as opposed to companies or the state - Psycho Pass and Texhnolyze aren't cyberpunk. It's science fiction per classic Asimov or Bradbury, re-framing of social realities or possibilities using technology to highlight elements; social conformance for Psycho Pass, existential purpose for Texhnolyze. But institutions rather than punk
Lain's a better case for cyberpunk, since Lain's driving herself to knowledge and a new gnostic paradigm with technology.
GitS (and Appleseed) are muddy, since individuals do empower themselves with technology, but those themes are less important than tech-enhanced politics and social issues. Classic scifi meets Tom Clancy.
Laughing Man and Kuze were the ones "resisting" the "system". It's just not from their points of view.
Gunnm
I think you might need to read Gibson, man.
The intersting part is that Shirow is sarcastic as fuck, but the system is STILL better than the alternative. It's positevely post-cyberpunk.
She's rich and powerful.
That's in the series, and they still are the antagonists. The status quo id mantained, even in the LM case, which is pretty dark actually.
>Gibson
why couldn't we have got a neuromancer anime in the late 80's/early 90's shit would have been so comfy
Does City Hunter count? I liked that.
Otherwise Texhnolyze
Yeah you should watch it. There is some boring eps but just skip through then to at least understand the story. It also has one of my favorite OPs of all time.
shit shows you posted
My waifu.
Several years ago I went on a binge of Mars related ovas and shows. And some of them were really good, but I can't remember any titles and can never find them when i search. but hey there's something to watch out for.
Mars as in the planet, my favorite was one where some guy finds a girl who turns out to be a cyborg I think and the planet is covered in robots and sentries that kill humans on sight.
I've been meaning to watch this. Thanks for reminding me.
