He's a combination of Sherlock Holmes and an 80's action movie hero with the ham turned up past maximum. It's extremely corny, while also being awesome, because as absurd as the idea of, say, being able to predict what your opponent says just before they say it is, it's still a cool gimmick you wish you could pull off in real life.
