God, this game is so fucking boring

God, this game is so fucking boring.

Why do people like it over TTYD again? Is it because of nostalgia?

2/10 made me reply

I'm serious.

This shit plays like a preschooler game. It's so safe and bland and above all fucking boring to play.

At least TTYD had style and charisma unlike this overrated sleeping pill.

If it made you reply then it was, by definition, perfect bait. It is always 10/10 if you reply. The fact that nobody realizes this is why there are so many shitposting retards.

People who played PM first will like PM more, and people who played TTYD will like TTYD more.
However, those who played PM first would have liked TTYD more than they currently like PM, if they had played TTYD first.

>complaining about boring slogs but likes TTYD

Prologue is boring but the rest is pretty much identical to TTYD, the fuck are you on?

I actually don't know why people prefer TTYD at all, what with having the worst most tedious forced backtracking issues in any Nintendo game ever.

Your first statement is false, I remember playing PM in middle school and loved that game up until I played TTYD, which easily surpassed that game imo.

I do agree with your second statement though.

PM is comfy.

>the rest is pretty much identical to TTYD

No. Stop right there, you fucking retard.

TTYD, despite its flaws, manages to keep interest with captivating themes that deviate from standard Mario cliches and writing that is both interesting and hilarious. It's something that people of all ages can enjoy.

PM64 however bogs everything down with its safe-as-fuck approach to everything that it does. It's so mind-numbingly banal that you'd think you would be playing a game made for toddlers at certain points. There's even a chapter in which you explore a literal toybox. How is that entertaining?

But they're both toddler games.

Op is a fag

Fuck off. I played PM first and I prefered TTDY.

It's the same game as PM but improved in every way. The definition of a good sequel. Doesn't make PM any less good.

TTYD overworld is straight lines with nothing happening
PM overworld is actually interesting and has puzzles to solve, so I don't get what you mean

If your complaint is that PM locations are "childish" while TTYD locations are "something that people of all ages can enjoy", remember that you are playing a fucking Mario game then take a deep, long look at your achievements in life

>you fucking retard

>worst most tedious forced backtracking issues in any Nintendo game ever
It's close but it's no Metroid Prime 2.

Literally the worst thread ever made

Just remember, whether you like PM or TTYD first, that both will always be better than SS and CS

I played TTYD first and I like PM64 better in almost every way.

>CS
how do you know?

Sticker Star was an improvement over TTYD though

>world map to get rid of the endless backtracking
>goes back to fun locations instead of doing 2edgy4me shit like TTYD and SPM, while remaining creative like the first Paper Mario with things like Drybake Stadium, the Enigmansion, that spider lair...
>vastly superior soundtrack & artstyle
>gets rid of the countless OC-donut-steels and makes it feel like a Mario game for once instead of having it feel like some 2006 sprite comic
>Bowser is threatening again instead of being a fucking clown
>the braindead toddler arithmetics that used to be the battle system are replaced with something that's actually new and engaging - attacks are 1-use and enemy selection is restricted so you must actually have a strategy
>removes the ability to counter attacks, making the game much harder as a result
>no tutorials on how to jump

SS>PM1>SPM>TTYD
Excited for Color Splash

...

right then I'm just gonna leave this thread.

>Nu-uh! Toddler game one is for early age toddlers, it's not like toddler game 2, which is for late age toddlers!

Nintendo games are made for toddlers. People just think that they're made for everyone.

I feel that I might like SS more than TTYD too honestly.

PM64 was original when it came out. They had no metric as to what to put in it yet.

All videogames are for toddlers, this enlightened gentleman explains so.

youtube.com/watch?v=eTdgHsifK38

fuck TTYD the 3rd or 4th star had like a full hour of you walking around talking to people without even a single fight. fuck it and fuck you.

fuck me.

>2edgy4me shit like TTYD and SPM
Alright this is obviously trolling but I have to see where you'll go with this. What?

Why are you playing Nintendo games if you are looking for games not aimed at toddlers?

I didn't play the original until around ten years after I played TTYD.
The original is the better game.

Toad town is better than Rogueport

I'd characterise myself as a solid fan of the Paper Mario series. I replayed PM1 recently, and I did eventually get bored, after finishing the Flower Fields chapter. I think it's my instinct to play very conservatively and use too few items that's responsible - items and coins are both very common in the game and should be used with some profligacy. The bonus of using these items speeds gamepaly up, makes battles more varied and makes an encounter without items more unusual and interesting. I'm a typical westerner however in that I take items and gear very seriously, and hate anything that smacks of inefficiently usage or waste of resources, when the game itself is a typical eastern product and treats them as amusing distractions.

Whenever I next replay TTYD, I'll see whether I get bored or not. The fact that certain items like Jammin Jellies are not in limited supply may go some distance.

Played PM when I was 9, TTYD when I was 11-12. Prefer TTYD. That idea about "what you experienced at 12 is the best" sounds nearer the truth.

This. They talked less which made the flow more consistent, I also liked the music more. I'd probably like TTYD more if I didn't try replaying it, I ended up hating the dialogue and chapter design whereas PM didn't feel as much as a slog to go through thrice when I played it.

That said, if you already find PM a slog then that point is meaningless.

I haven't played TTYD yet, but I played Paper Mario a couple years ago (so not during my childhood or when it came out) and I think it's great. Loved the whole game, it deserves the praise it gets. Probably the sequel does too, I'll get around to playing it some day.

Pic related, best chapter and best partner

I prefer TTYD to PM. That said, I'd be fascinated to know what themes in TTYD you found "captivating", and why.

when i finally play ttyd i'll probably hate it

Are there people who liked the first one but didn't like TTYD? Seemed like as good as a sequel as we could possibly get for the most part.

He just likes it because it's edgier so he feels more validated enjoying the game at his age.

I don't mean to step on anyone else's opinions, but TTYD is a straight upgrade of the original in every possible respect, and I'm consistently baffled that there are people out there who do prefer the obviously worse (but still good) version over it.

TTYD has worse low points while 64 is a more consistently high-quality experience.
Chapter 2 sucks all-around; nobody likes it. Chapter 4 sucks and its only redeeming quality is ONE likable character. Chapter 6 is boring as hell outside of Riverside Station.
It has more ambition than 64 but more often falls flat. I can't think of anything in 64 that I dislike as much as TTYD Chapter 2/4/6.

Different user, but I know I enjoyed that it got a touch darker without feeling out of place as a Mario game. I haven't and won't ever push for any edgy, grimdark bullshit in a game clearly meant for all ages, but I'd like it to feel more like just that - ALL ages - than skewing too hard towards kids. There's a difference between family entertainment and children's entertainment, and I feel like modern Nintendo is leaning further towards the latter as time goes on.

Paper Mario 1 backtracking chapter:
>Six paths branch off the main area
>Each path has only two or three screens, making it easy to get from A to B to C to D

TTYD backtracking chapter:
>Straight line through the entire level multiple times

Paper Mario 1 castle chapter:
>Controlled by four ninjakoopas who commandeer a Bowser mech

TTYD castle chapter:
>Controlled by a dragon

Man, I wonder why people like the original more.

The fact that you don't realize that proper bait is meant to get many angered replies, not just a simple "made me reply" is why you're a shitposting retard.

Let me fix that for you.

TTYD castle chapter:
>Controlled by a dragon that has lovely feet that people pay for

>Chapter 3

this, PM is more enjoyable overall

TTYD is for spergy edgelords

The fuck

>There's even a chapter in which you explore a literal toybox. How is that entertaining?
>implying the toybox wasn't a GOAT chapter in game filled with GOAT chapters
youtube.com/watch?v=V5nOVGch3bU

I prefer the gameplay of TTYD but the overworld of the first was better and it has better chapters overall than TTYD.

Tell me I'm not the only one who was completely disappointed by how short chapter 6 was, you finally get to Poshley Heights and that's pretty much it. There's really not anything to do there.

Doo liss was great though.

Fuck, they're both great games. Why do we have to fight?

Seems likely but you never know, he could be a genuine tard

This is pretty much agreeable. Still, I think that if you want vanilla themes and minimal twists executed well, PM 1 is tops. Koopa Bros fort, the entire third chapter, little things like the Flower Fields and Toy Box were all charming.

God I can't wait for the current pensioners at the top of Nintendo to abdicate gracefully/die. Preferably the former.

We don't, but tards be tards.

I would've liked to have refought Doopliss in Poshley Sanctum, preferably one on one so we got that based fight theme rather than the (still pretty cool) Shadow Sirens again. Frankly I wish Duplighost mechanics were more impressive in game - they should be able to disguise and attack in the same turn, to make it hard to guess just what you need to block.

Also, seeing as we can get boss rush modes in 3DS remakes of OoT and MM, would it kill to get one for the PMs as well?

>Paper Mario
>boring compared to TTYD
You mean the game that has 10x more dialogue, a slower story and repetitive backtracking?
