Are Xbox, PS2, GameCube considered retro yet?
Are Xbox, PS2, GameCube considered retro yet?
by the definition of retro, yes. by the definition of aspergers, no.
on Sup Forums yes, on /vr/ no
Xbox best, literally crushes the competition.
they will be in the next generation
>best
>sold only 30 million while ps2 sold over 100 Million, making it the No.1 most selling console of all time
Sure
>this aspie again
just accept the GC and the PS2 crushed the Xbox already, jesus fucking christ.
N64 and PS1 were considered retro last gen so it only makes sense that it moves up now.
>gamecube crushing the xbox
>when the xbox sold more than the gamecube
dreamcast > xbox > gamecube > ps2
tell that to the spergs on /vr/
>ps2 has the largest most generic library with occasional gems
>xbox has a few gems but halo kiled any future creativity
>GC had best hardware (except those fucking discs) but nintendo doesnt sell
I still prefer the GC/wii version of RE4 and Timesplitters
GC destroys the rest in build quality
NEVER RETRO REEEEEE
>i don't know what i'm talking about: the post
>as if im talking about sales
you must be a sony fan
According to all the retarded fucking thrift and and pawn stores in Australia, they are.
so this is neo Sup Forums.... whoa...
No, and they never should be.
xbox had better games than gamecube
xbox had better online than gamecube
xbox had better hardware than gamecube
so tell me, how exactly did the gamecube "crush" the xbox?
honestly this. im curious to see how /vr/ will turn out once every console from 6th gen becomes retro and when 7th gen becomes retro
Xbox>Gamecube>PS2>Dreamcast
They were all great though
>better games
>Halo and uh... that one japanese POTUS exclusive game that I like to flaunt alot because Im a contrarian
>xbox had better online for one game
>xbox had better hardware for one game
WHOA... THE POWER...
Posting rankings now?
PS2>Gamecube>Dreamcast>Xbox
I still like muh Gun Valkyrie and muh Ninja Gaiden tho.
try harder next time
Not retro. You gotta be 20 years+ to be a classic. I think Sup Forums really needs to divide the game sections by generation so people stop.
I dont think people are ready to really call them retro yet. It just feels really fucking wrong.
good retort
0/10
>the first generation of online consoles older than people in this very thread
>the first generation of online consoles
underage detected
as much as i hate retrospergs, even by /vr/'s twisted standards it can be argued that the dreamcast qualifies and the rest of the 6th gen doesn't since the other systems lasted until about 2006 before games completely stopped coming out for them.
for the longest time i didn't even realize the dreamcast was supposed to be in the same generation.
do you know how greater than signs work? because you've got them all backwards
> sonygger
> muh sales
So typical
Dude, the PS2 alone crushed the Xbox and the Dreamcast (and I still have a lot of respect for de DC, mor than de GC). GC added little to nothing to the formula.
nah i dont
>insinuating you, or amyone else you knew, had a saturn, let alone one of those adapters for it
well, if you actually did, that's pretty cool
>If he doesn't hold my aspie opinion, he's baiting me
lmfao
0/10
epic
i didnt know anyone who did but someone, somewhere during the mid 90s played online gaming on the sega saturn
0/10
Not an argument.
i can't imagine living in a world where anyone would think halo 1 is retro
just because you grew up with a certain console as a kid doesn't mean it's retro now. retro stops at snes/genesis imo. blame the pixels fad.
>the meaning of the word retro is defined by MY childhood not anyone else because reasons.
i'm glad that you understand that MY point of view is the ONLY point of view /sucks penis
Some GOAT exclusives for sure
I kid you fucking not, there are people who think the first Doom game came out in 2004. Fuck you, /vr/, All of sixth gen should be accepted.
ps2 > dreamcast = xbox > gamecube
>Sega Saturn NetLink
>first
Underage detected.
Face it Halo killed any other potential games for the OG Xbox.
never said it was the first dipshit also your not even right in that regard either. pic related came first
Face it mini discs killed any third party support for the gamecube.
Spotted the sperg
The 6th gen consoles have much more in common with the current gen than the 3rd and 4th. They should be kept separate.
If people are really looking to give them a retro board then there should be another split. Make an arcade board covering all pre-2000's stuff, a millennial one covering 6th and 7th gen, and keep Sup Forums as an all purpose board covering all news and discussion, including the most recent consoles
this doesn't even make sense. halo brought interest to the xbox.
>Service was so terrible it only ever had two games that could be played via online multiplayer, a baseball game and mahjong
Shouldn't even be considered the first since it failed so spectacularly at a basic level.
what the fuck does this even mean? the og xbox had plenty of exclusives that came out after halo 1
>the first online service for console gaming was terrible
no shit sherlock
>Shouldn't even be considered the first
but it does so...
When it can't even meet a basic standard for connectivity, it's debatable as to whether or not you can even call it the first online gaming service.
That one kid that didn't have a PS2
yeah good thing i didnt own a dvd player
except it did work, what are you even talking about?
/vr/ cutoff should be 1996 desu. If it has polygons it's not retro
>being this buttblasted that all his friends had one and he didn't.
it was my least favorite out of the four thats all and i didnt have friends back then or now
take buffy and day of reckoning off that list and you've got a solid game set right there
neo-/v gentlemen
How can Xbox Live era of gaming be retro gaming??
>go to friends house
>has a PS2
>just a bunch of sports/hunting/racing shovelware and the odd inferior multiplatform game
seeing that version of splinter cell nearly blinded me. let's just say my anecdotal experiences with PS2s never convinced me to get one back then. it was also very boring and utilitarian to look at. muh mature platform muh. muh multimedia.
>BTFO'd so hard you start throwing in buzzwords
????
original xbox live shut down in 2010. the stated reason was it was antiquated and limiting the service as a whole from moving forward.
The PS2 was never meant to handle certain PC games of its time.
>tfw you think the PS2 had the worst library out of all Sony systems including the PSP and Vita
>everyone else says it is the best console of all time
Is it because I've been playing games for 25 years and most of the people on here actually started with the PS2?
>PS2
plebian
>GameCube
neo retro
>Xbox
kino
seems like it wasn't meant to handle games with any real lighting at all.
What about all the good games like
>Ractchet and Clank
>Jak and Daxter
>Shadow of the Colossus
>Sly Cooper
>DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi
>San Andreas
>THUG 1&2
>Spiderman 2
And those are just a few that I can recall.
i never liked the ps2 because it was initially advertised as a dvd player first and a gaming console second. it sold a shit ton of units at launch despite it it having few good exclusives until around 2001. it was a genius move by sony but it introduced this standard where you dont need to have the best exclusives in order for your console to sell well
That's the game engine's fault. You do know Splinter Cell runs on Unreal Engine 2? PS2 plays games like Unreal Tournament '99 which is UE1, but UE2 is too much. Xbox can play games like Unreal Championship 2, which was UE2.5. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory was a very nice looking UE2 game and it played just fine on Xbox.
Didn't you just say it already had good exclusives in 2001?
>people who say the PS2 was actually bad are usually full of shit
Startling revelation.
Honestly that generation just felt like a dry spell to me. There were great games, but the total number of enjoyable games seemed to have taken a nose dive.
>initially advertised as a dvd player
While I may make jokes about a console advertising itself in such a manner, I've never been so shallow to judge a console on anything besides its library.
yeah and? during the 1st year there was literally nothing
Your mom is considered retro
my point is people didn't tend to have those games. they tended to have shovelware since it was the shovelware system of the time and so i was never exposed to good games on sony platforms in general. same thing happened with the ps1.
when i saw someone with a 64, gamecube or xbox they always had at least a couple good games and those games tended to have local multiplayer.
the lighting thing is a common difference in multiplatform comparisons where the xbox will have some form of basic lighting then the ps2 version will look flat and washed out.
>it was a shovelware system
kill yourself
shut up faggot.
Gamestop officially takes all three as retro so yeah
Multiplats
Xbox>GC>PS2
Exclusives
GC>PS2>Xbox
/thread
>didn't have those games
Nigger everyone I knew had at least 4 out of the 8 I listed.
kill yourself no taste faggot
>sold 155 million units
>gets mad when someone calls the ps2 a shovelware system
end yourself dipshit
You were wrong. Accept it and move on with your life. You are not always right user
That makes no fucking sense
where are my dreamcast niggas at?
good for you. doesn't change my experiences at all.
go back to your cloud strife porn, cuck.
>PS2 launched end of October 2000
Wow waiting a couple months is really gonna kill you.
>Armored Core 2
>DOA2: Hardcore
>Dynasty Warriors 2
>FantaVision
>Midnight Club: Street Racing
>Ridge Racer V
>Smuggler's Run
>SSX
>Street Fighter EX3
>Tekken Tag Tournament
>TimeSplitters
>Unreal Tournament
All these games on day 1 to tide you over for a few months and you had to bitch and moan about how "waah PS2 is shit it had literally nothing." 3 driving games, 3 fighting games, 1 snowboarding game, 2 first person shooters, 2 action games, and you still have to bitch.
>being this mad that you couldn't afford the games the ps2 had to offer
wew
Present and reporting for Duty Sir.
What are we doing next, King of all blacks
literally makes no sense at all since games cost the same on every platform.
