Guys I'm on the fence of buying either Persona Q or SMT IV. I'd like some honest opinions from people who've played these games. I might eventually end up buying both of them but I'd still like to hear your opinion on them to help me decide which one to get first.
Persona Q or SMT IV?
Persona Q if you played P3 and P4 and like firt person dungeon crawling.
Both are fince choices though, but you will get a lot more enjoyment out of Q if you played P3 and P4.
SMT IV without a doubt. Persona Q is only worth it if you're an extreme fan of persona 3/4 as well as etrian odyssey. Meanwhile SMT 4 is proberbly the best RPG the 3ds has.
Yeah I played both of them and loved them. I've not had the chance to play SMT 3 yet, and so far I've heard mixed feelings about IV which is why I'm a bit unsure about that one.
Have you played both of them? What's the main differences? Negatives and positives etc.
Tried both games for 5 hours and after SMT IV I couldn't return to Persona Q.
I will play Persona Q later, probably.
They are completely different genres of games.
Persona Q is like a lighthearted and gentle introduction to Etrian Odyssey style dungeon crawling, while SMT4 is like Persona but without the fat.
I'm approaching this assuming you like Persona and that's why you're interested.
SMT:IV
And this coming from a persona faggot
>persona and smt fanbases are mutually exclusive
After 4 they kinda are.
>all those spinoffs
That actually helps a lot. And I think I'll go with IV. Is persona Q easy or targeted at a younger audience than the regular personas? Given your description.
Don't go play SMT expecting some good or realistic characters.
Also, there are 3-4 different endings, and your choice matters. Answer honestly, as if they are asking you.
If your ass is getting kicked, save scum.
It's a Rated-M game. Its actually harder than both Persona games. Though, most of it is due to dungeon crawling.
SMT IV, despite what you might heard of it it's still a fun game, with an amazing soundtrack and fusion system. Worth your time
No, it's not like that at all.
Etrian Odyssey is a series of first person dungeon crawlers. That's all it is, it's nothing but core RPG gameplay with little story to speak of. The aim of the game is to create your characters, choose how they develop and grow in strength, and explore labyrinths. It's not a casual genre.
Persona Q is made for Persona players to enter this genre. It's not any more casual or easy than mainline, it's about the same. You'll see some silly interactions between flanderized versions of Persona characters and there's more of a story thread connecting everything, so it's more welcoming to fans of that kind of JRPG looking to broaden their horizons.
You can also get an idea of what Etrian Odyssey is by playing one of the demos of Etrian Odyssey. The good thing is that you can import your save into the main game if you like it. I recommend IV or Untold 2 if you take that approach.
SMT IV is also an excellent way for JRPG fans with no background in mainline SMT to enter the series. The gameplay is Persona, except with a much greater emphasis on recruiting and fusing demons to keep your party in top condition rather than interacting with your friends. The story and characters are pretty lame, but the atmosphere, aesthetic and soundtrack picks up the slack in many ways. The opening hours will give you an unrealistic impression of how easy the game is, by the way.
SMT people will all tell you IV because Q is basically an etrian odyssey game with a persona filler plot slapped on it.
Is the dating aspect completely removed?
No, you'll be going on dates with qt Charon and Mudo casters all the time :^)
Thank you so much for this post. Looks like I'm going with SMT IV for now.
You don't really need to play SMT III to play IV. IV does have some weaknesses, but for the most part it's a pretty solid game too. It has a really fantastic atmosphere, OST, and setting. If you're really looking for a Persona game though, they're ENTIRELY different. Some people prefer the atmosphere and setting of one more than the other (I'm more a fan of Persona, personally) but classic SMT is at least worth a try in some form.
SMT IV.
I ain't even played that shit and but i can tell it's better than garbage PQ.
Atlus basically went to Tumblr and just whipped up some shitty fanfiction off there then placed it as a canon plot in the game.
The only real problem with Shin Megami Tensei 4 is that the tutorial is really long. Kinda like Kingdom Hearts 2 in a way. But when the game gets going, it becomes amazingly fun.
Buy both.
