Nobody seriously thinks DS2 was a great game, do they?
I'm talking about the vanilla release, with its tiny disconnected areas, repetitive single-phase bossfights, visual downgade, nonsense story, gutted invasions, PVP dominated by players with the softcap in every stat and cheesy meme builds
The Crown DLC was a lot better. But that's not really relevant.
Owen Sanders
It was a good game.
Nathan Reed
>repetitive >Nonsense story
These are staples of the souls games.
Grayson Butler
It was a decent game, although clearly the worst of the Souls series
You see as much exaggerated hate as you see exaggerated love for the game. It totally dropped the ball with level design and boss fights. But it definitely had a few interesting ideas and its disappointing that DS3 didnt expand on most of them.
Grayson Lee
The movement is very sluggish compared to other Souls games, hitboxes on certain weapons and bosses are terrible, and some idiot decided to add large groups of enemies in very small areas, so that you're forced to fight three at once in many situations. Most bosses are recycled filler, and the level design is much worse than in the two previous games.
Sebastian Stewart
These three make me think of timewasters rather than intimidating enemies, you don't really have a choice other than drawing them out one by one, riveting stuff.
Benjamin Cook
Hated it at first with how movements, rolling and attacking felt. It always threw me off when I'm locked onto something but end up attacking in the other direction
Dropped the vanilla game many times til near the SotFS release is when I finally completed, only towards endgame it started to grow on me with that infinite souls gain from the giant lord boss
Isaiah Jackson
it had some cool things like ascetics or lock on running
Colton Roberts
...
Michael Robinson
I thought it was meh, playing through DS3 only solidified the feeling. The lighting is one of the worst sins, it's an extremely ugly game without the advertised e3 lighting.
Nathaniel Nguyen
My biggest problem with DaS2 that no DLC or re-release will fix is the shit controls and movement. I don't know what they did but everything feels so goddamn slow and weightless, there's no impact to your attacks or feeling in your rolls or movement. I tried to start SOTFS to give it a shot the other day and the complaints I had on release day were still there (actually maybe amplified after playing DS3 which corrected this problem) and stopped playing shortly after Dragonslayer.
Logan Phillips
I've finished all five and consider it my favorite.
Henry Ramirez
Me and a friend have been playing DS2 this very day. He's still doing the main story and I'm finishing up the DLC.
Dark Souls 2 is a great game. I'm sorry; yes everything the critics always say are right. Soul Memory is dumb shit. Durability is fucked. Elevator from windmill to lava castle is stupid. Blah blah blah. Yes those things are bad. A lot of enemies are completely fucking stupid and make me want to pull my hair out when I fight them. But it's STILL a fucking very good game. It STILL has so much in the way of customization, replayability, fun covenants and everything Souls stands for. Yes it would have been nice if the lighting wasn't shit. Yes it would have been great if most hitboxes weren't janky as fuck and yes it would have been fucking stellar if the narrative and themes fit better or at least as good as Dark Souls 1. But it's STILL fucking good.
Jose Diaz
...
Cameron Watson
Hole shit is this fucking real?
John Lee
yeah I loved it.
Benjamin Howard
It's true, Dark Souls 2 is literally agreed to be the worst game ever made. Absolutely no one that has actually played the game likes anything about it. Literally every single thing about the game is fucking garbage. LITERALLY. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. It should be forgotten, if not for the fact that it represents the darkest period in video game history. It should still be considered non-canon for the Souls games though.
Brayden Hernandez
Yeah it's the hallway before the Velstadt boss fight
Lincoln Torres
Yes. It's even worse because you have to kite them around for a bit since there's no or less fogdoor i-frames, so if you just run straight for the door you get hit out of the (even longer than previous games) entering animation half the time.
Christian Thompson
>abundance of equipment options >way more gameplay options in general >more varied environments >spells don't suck shit >abundance of item types >fun covenants that actually work
It's a good game you fags
Dominic Thomas
none of those are good things.
Luis Evans
I'm playing through DaS2 again and enjoying it.
Should I just stick with this and buy the DLCs or ignore it entirely and get SOTFS?
Are there any big differences aside from enemy placement? Any story changes? Or is it basically just a DLC bundle.
Aaron Gray
this guy is right, spot on
also bloodborne is everything he said, but the opposite. meaning best game, etc
Eli Johnson
>another thread complaining about dark souls 2
do you people have nothing better to do?
Noah Lewis
>tiny disconnected areas So are a lot of areas in DaS1 (and 3) aside from the few starting areas that Miyazaki fangays love to jerk off too while pretending two thirds of unfinished and poorly designed mess of the game don't exist >repetitive single-phase bossfights just like in DaS1 >PVP dominated by players with the softcap in every stat and cheesy meme builds just like in DaS1
b-but MUH MIYAZAKI MUH A TEAM
Andrew Garcia
It's a decent game. It's just not a good Souls game.
Michael Turner
>its another "Muh DS1 iz bet0r" episode Nobody cares, just go fucking play your game and let us have fun for fuck's sake!
Matthew Clark
This. I fucking love DaS2. My favorite Souls series game. There is just so many options and Bloodborne was a huge disappointment in that regard. Still haven't played DaS3 though
Landon Long
I bought it day one and it lived up to all the hype I had for it. I'll never understand how people can hate it so much.
Adrian Thomas
I started with DS3, yeah whatever, would it be wise to even play DS2 or just skip it entirely in favor of SotS?
Zachary Sullivan
well obviously you should play scholar over vanilla
Colton Foster
2's DLC is better than 1 and 2's base game combined
Josiah Collins
If anything, at least 2 tried to do its own thing instead of just relying on pandering and rethreading the same ground again like 3 did
Cameron Rodriguez
Don't skip DS2. Its a perfectly fine game, alot of people just cry because it doesn't follow the story of DS1 and DS3 and because of slight gameplay tweaks. The DLC is the best part of the game though.
Alexander Bell
Mechanically and balance wise i recognize it as the best (outside of soul memory) In most other regards it failed.
Aldia was ok though for actually directly speaking about the nature of the fire
Michael Gray
>tfw started with DS2 and loved it >everyone calls it shit At least it can only get better.
Cooper Clark
I've only ever played vanilla, unpatched, offline. It's a good game. Great? No. But good.
Carson Sanchez
Can it? Because from what I've seen, Sup Forums is going to meme DS3 into the same category as DS2. They'll just shit on Fromsoft games for now on holding DS1 as the pinnacle of perfection.
Andrew Wood
On launch your pvp options were dark magic and YOU DIED, and the only covenants that did jack shit were rats and bells.
Charles Cox
The entire game feels like the developers slapped it together in hope to recreate a similar experience to Demons Souls and Dark Souls, whilst having no idea about what made them special in the first place.
DS2 is a fun game, but not a good Souls games.
Ethan Miller
>launch era bell covenant I was literally drowning in chunks.
Logan Cooper
>DS2 is a fun game, but not a good Souls games. Gasp, its the call of the elusive Cry-Baby Faggot
Leo Roberts
reminder that ds2 somehow managed to still be less linear than ds3
Dylan Reed
DS1 had SL builds DS2 had SM, which encourged people to hit the softcap in every stat
Oliver Taylor
2 was trash and as much as everyone likes to cry about how horrible 3 is for having a few paintings of AMAZING CHEST AHEAD at least it had the common sense to remove shit like soul memory and healing crystals.
Michael Ortiz
How's the eight grade
Christian Morales
>whilst having no idea about what made them special in the first place. horribly unfinished broken messes with terrible final bosses?
Daniel Brooks
>linear= bad
I guess Demon's is the worst game ever made.
Ethan Smith
I had buckets of fun in the vanilla version, I think that's the only thing that matters in the end, internet opinions or not.
James Anderson
I've tried to see it through to the end five times now and just can't bring myself to do it.
Nothing in this game gives me any sort of reaction. I'm don't feel tense, angry, or excited it's just nothing.
Blake Martin
But that was Dark Souls 2 even more than the rest of the series
Xavier Turner
>I hate working covenants >Options are bad there should be one objectively correct way to play >Everything should be the same
Camden Sanchez
Worst souls game Fantastic action game goty of that year for me
Dylan Evans
No, DaS1 is far worse, and especially was in the vanilla version which a lot of babbies here never played because they started with AotA/PtD versions which were heavily patched by that point, yet they love to bring up DaS2 vanilla version when judging games.
Cameron Carter
All of the Souls games have been unfinished, including Demon Souls. If it weren't for the internet we wouldn't even know all the shit that gets cut and nobody would be complaining about it. Its fucking stupid.
Thomas Martin
All I want is DS1 &2 in DS 3 engine
Jose Lewis
I fucking loved ds2. It was different, had great pvp, tons of weapons/gear and had artificial "fuck you" difficulty out the ass.
The hate it gets is absolutely ridiculous and all because it's not a 1-1 copy of fucking DaS that miyazaki jizzed on.
Benjamin Roberts
>had great pvp
Andrew Flores
Yeah In fact, all the enemies in that hallway aren't even on that screenshot.
Anthony Barnes
It did you faggot. Connectivity in general was better and you saw more build variety outside of haveldad shitters poisestabbing everything.
Justin Howard
DaS1's shitty, blatantly slapped together at the last minute garbage is all of Lost Izalith and the Four Kings fight, while Dark Souls 2's area and boss design gives you that "wow they really didn't give a shit at all" feeling throughout many places.
Jaxson White
Demon's is the least linear Souls game though
Elijah Morgan
>being this wrong
Ayden Morgan
Linearity is good because a game is supposed to be a curated adventure, not some directionless walking simulator
Liam Campbell
fuck this zone
Jaxson Anderson
...
Adrian Lewis
...
Jaxson Campbell
DaS2 vanilla is still better than 1.
Isaac Allen
Other than the billion buffed resonant chaosblade running r1 haveljesters? Holy fuck even the memories are pure ebola. Only reasons I played the PvP were the golf swing and ridiculous powerstance combos. Everything else was dog shit.
Cooper Fisher
I'd love to see one of these for cathedral of the deep
Kevin Green
>it's a souls thread on Sup Forums again thinking they can have opinions into the trash
