What do people think of the nameless king?

What do people think of the nameless king?
I have seen a few threads about him, but avoided them because I hadn't reached him yet.

The camera is a bit of a pain in the first section and the fire breath aoe attack can be difficult to dodge but apart from that it's a great, tough fight. Took me the most tries out of all the bosses when I was using a larger weapon.

easy boss, I only died once

I had trouble until I stooped getting greedy and turned the fight into a poking match. I 1 shotted him in NG+ and NG++

He was alright.

I thought he wasn't that hard too, but it could be because i was overleveled.
I fought him at lvl 118 or something on ng+, because I played blind first and completely missed out on smouldering lake and arch dragon peak.

Overhyped in difficulty by Sup Forums. I've literally never triggered the first phase's Ancient Dragon Breath attack.

Yeah I was konda suprised about how not hard he was.
I saw post like
>You can't post heri if you didn't beat him on your own.
So I was preparing for the fight of my lifetime, but he wasn't difficult not easy, but not "wow that is hard hard" you get me?
But like I said maybe it was because I was overleveled or something.

probably the best boss in the game, arguably in the series. Quite difficult the first time, but nothing too difficult. NG+ he's a cakewalk cause of yellow stoneplate +1

Annoying camera ruined what could have been a cool fight.

LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE

LITERALLY

This is my first souls game and I'm still trying to beat him and overleveled my ass off (sl126 NG). Im using Astora Greatsword and no shield. I think I could win with some ease (though maybe not) if I min/maxed my armor and switched to a straight sword.

I beat every other boss so far, so I'll just keep trying.

Quite easy once you figure out what his tells are. Blindly spamming dodge gets punished unlike with every other boss.

The only truly difficult boss in the game for me. I would imagine if you know his attack patterns well enough he's parryable in his second phase. The first phase is beyond easy, just use a lightning pine resin.

i know we're talking about the nameless king but god damn

>fighting abyss watchers
>got the second phase down to a tiny sliver of health left
>literally one hit is all it'd take
>all out of estus
>get combo'd and die

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

First phase is nicely paced, fairly predictable, and none too challenging. Attacks come out when you'd think, forgiving dodge windows on attacks that fuck with the lock on or camera, and no real complaints about the hit boxes. One attack is a little shaky but it's a charged weapon slam with a visible AOE. Even if you do get hit by the edge of it, it does very little damage.

Second phase is awfully fast paced and would be fairly challenging but the change ups in the attack patterns will leave you on edge, mistiming rolls, or strait eating attacks that you thought were over. He has several dashing and charging moves but only one of them breaks lock on and it doesn't follow up terribly fast, you have time to reorient yourself before he attacks again. Personally, I hate that some attacks look similar in their wind up but for one attack you dodge when his feet shift, but the other might be when he pivots his sword spear behind him for a swing. Becomes frustrating because NK is almost as good about punishing heals as Twin Princes in their second phase. He closes gaps quite consistently. I'd almost swear he becomes more aggressive if you have Estus soft selected with less than full health.

>whittle boss all the way down to 1% hp because i'm being disciplined and only taking one R1 every opening
>fucking up here and there but that's what VIG and estus is for
>they need two more hits
>go for two R1 instead of just waiting for the next opening
>eat shit
Happens more times than I'd care to admit. Especially embarrassing when I remember I'm using a damn Claymore and not learning my lesson.

Abyss Watchers is an incredibly easy boss. I have no clue how you struggle so much on the first phase.

He's surprisingly weak to fire. Granted i had 40 int and the chaos vestige pyromancy. All i needed was one ashen estus sippy to beat him.

Pretty much every boss is weak to lightning or fire because they're all humanoids.

hes fuckin awesome, really fun to fight and challenging enough to get your ass kicked a bit before you figure it out. great music and boss arena too.

9/10 boss for me

the camera while fighting his giant parrot is the hardest part of the fight. after a few attempts of having that janky ass camera do a 180 on me right before he attacks was enough for me to give up

>his giant parrot
what the fuck

...

Hardest part is his built in attack delays mixed up with his super fast attacks.

Good fight though

It's a wyvern.

for everyone bitching about the camera i have found that locking onto NK instead of the giant rooster makes it a lot easier

I SERIOUSLY doubt a dragon would team up with the son of the guy who killed 99% of dragons

Those really got me.

Why do you think he is banished and shamed from his family.

If it wasnt for the first part of the fight with the Drake, it could have been my favorite boss fight of the game.

That's some Happy Feet story telling right there.
>no dad i dont want to kill them i want to ride them!
>WE CANNOT COEXIST WITH THEM
>NK woefully absorbing his flying chicken because it couldn't handle the ashen one

More like a really sad version of hiccup from how to train your dragon.

Also quick question why was Ornsteins armor and spear there wasn't he supposed to protect new londo?
Also why does Ornstein have lightning powers wasn't that Gwyns thing and the nameless king who inherited from him?

Too easy, another artorias with slow, telegraphed attacks

Got to him, killed his Wyvern, got his lifebar to 60% then died. Retried 2 times and teleported to Firelink Shrine to fight the final boss.

By the time I reached Archdragon Peak I was so jaded with the game I just wanted to be done with it and move on.

THIS I should learn but I get greedy and then get punished for it

>BK chest without BK helm or a head piece that hides the popped collar
Groce

It took me quite a few attempts solo because I'm shit, but I didn't think it was as insanely hard as people made it out to be. In fact it just became tedious having to keep rekilling the dragon to actually face nameless king

Too easy with dragonslayer greatshield.

Super fun boss fight. Not the best in the series, and certainly not the hardest, but definitely a great one. It's a fight that starts out hard, but when you figure his tells out, you get to look really stylish as you dodge everything he throws at you.

Speaking of which, what are your guys' picks for the best and most difficult bosses in the series? Not counting nonsense like the Bed of Chaos, obviously.

I think Lord of Cinder is my favorite in the series, but I'd say the hardest would have to be either Fume Knight or Burnt Ivory King.

Is he Ornstein or the firstborn?

I liked him alot, took me a solid 8 tries to get him. Which is the most I needed, 6 on Soul of Cinder.

Pretty cool that he's pretty much 100% the firstborn of Gwyn aswell. Looks baller as fuck.

Really user, can't you make the connection by your own?

Orns has never had a chance at being the firstborn. One reason off the top of my head being: he has an erected statue in Anor Londo.

Read that post again.

Well considering whose armour+weapon you find after fighting nameless king, he probably isn't Ornstein

disappointing. all that build up for an easy boss fight

>Gwyn struck his firstborn's name even from history
>guy is called Nameless King
>people actually try to argue that it might be someone other than the firstborn

the only reason i'm not playing these games is because they don't support 16:10. Why did i ever by a 1920x1200 monitor in the first place. Fuck sake.

I am a very dense and borderline retarded person.
Did the nameless king give him his lightning powers and Ornsteim was looling for him for some reason?

it wasn't him in anor londo, you fought an illusion dummy

Anyone who played DS knows that Gwyn had a son who he sent away from the land for losing very important shit.

Opposite for me, I just freeze and play like a pussy and get rekt

Dude, that part of the lore is the most obvious shit ever.
Ornstein is the Firstborn disciple.

First phase is a bit of a mess, and one of the few times in the series when you might actually be better off using a mouse given the slow camera on controller, but the second phase is pretty much top-tier.

He's not hyper aggressive, but he's not passive either, if you fuck up you can usually find a chance to heal if you don't get greedy, and as soon as you know his telegraphs you're golden. It's exactly what a souls boss should be.

If you take phase 2 alone it's one of the best fights in the series in my opinion.

Just for contrast, Champion Gundyr might be my favourite soulsborne boss ever, the one and only nitpick I have is that he's just a tiny bit too aggressive. If he was either the smallest bit less aggressive, or hit the smallest bit less hard he'd be completely perfect. If you don't have 25 VIT Gundyr will hit you once and almost never let you heal.

I fell like you need to pump points into health way harder this time around.

My mistake. He's not Orns.

Best boss is still S&H for me.

Hardest is Maneater without a doubt. Chappy arena, hits like a truck, flies everywhere, and has stupid strong magic attacks.

*crappy

if you go play demons souls again now maneaters will be piss easy. i remember back when demons souls was the only game the boss felt impossible but after so much practice with the other games the fights not really too tough

gundyr is easy as fuck. he has one good button and the rest is garbage. the kick is all he has

nameless king phase one is easy, camera is fine on it. just target the king and only switch to the dragon when you need to wail on it

Targeting on NK phase one is broken the second he lifts off, then you have to find him again and sometimes the attack comes in before you can, which isn't a problem if you know the fight well enough. I'm not saying it's too hard, just that it doesn't work as well as it should.

If, for example, the lock on range was longer, or if the lock on didn't break when he flew over your head it would be fine.

Artorias is the best boss in the series
most difficult is im sure some dark souls 2 dlc boss but i didnt play dark souls 2 dlc.

so im going to say manus

It's not an armor I usually use. I put it against fake Gwyn because of the fire damage resistance. I usually go with something like pic related.

I'm not one of those fashion souls faggots so I just go with whatever offers better protection considering the level while remaining in the knight tier armors.

actually yeah now that youve reminded me the lock on breaking when he jumps up to breath fire is pretty annoying. it makes it so that you have to just run away and hold shield. breaks the fight up really

Adjust desktop display settings in your graphics card utility software and play with black bars your retard.

that looks even worse desu. far far worse

the champ was the hardest for me. possibly because I went in fashion souls with like 11 VIT. I probably died more on NK but the champ was so aggressive I never felt on top even after learning his patterns.

legit beat the soul of cinder on try 1 with using like 2-3 estus. it was probably rng as fuck since he didn't do any of the special stuff I've seen him do to others

As with every boss, his difficulty really depends on your build and experience. I had some trouble with him my first time, but killed him in 2 tries in NG+. Pontiff is harder for me.

What do you consider good then? Teach me phamalam.

They were illusions I should really finish playing ds1

The who?

I was cool with it until I saw those fucking pants. Goddamn

Overrated as fuck. "Dodge into me for free hits" the boss. Had more trouble with his bitchass dragon

...

I've beaten him solo all the way through NG++ even though I actually wanted to summon but couldn't. Why are people having trouble with this guy? He's not that hard.

First boss where I had to change things up. Took off my armor, and strapped on the dragonwhatever greatshield. First stage got pretty easy once I remembered Kalameet.

Second stage was just rolling through all of his attacks and blocking the odd thing. It was really exciting, but not particularly hard.

Nameless King is Gwyn's firstborn, he was Ornstein's mentor. Eventually he sided with the dragons and was Disowned and expunged from the Anor Londo's history, statues destroyed and all that.

After Anor Londo fell, it seems that Ornstein went to seek out his old mentor, either for revenge or something else. That's why Ornstein's armour and weapon can be found near the boss area.

>As with every boss, his difficulty really depends on your build and experience.
I would add luck and personality of the player. I managed to get the dancer 1st try despite his impressive and imprevisible movest but I died 10+ times on Aldrich which objectively isn't that bad shit is just weird. I also have a friend who can't beat Seath legit despite having 150+ hours on DaS yet he absolutely steamrolls Manus effortlessly.

Ok wow, I just beat him with the help of a summon. It was childs play. You can heal while he focuses the other guy.

I feel kinda bad now.

I can kill his bird pretty easily, just as long as it does what I want it to do. I only have trouble with him breathing fire, I just can never seem to get away from it, blocking is terrible because it just means you take more hits (luckily you're immune to the fire when you're knocked down ) I'm level >100 and I have 25vit so if I get hit more than once by the fire I'm dead. I have been able to get his second form down to 25% but I haven't beaten him yet. its been awhile since I've tried and I dread having to re-learn all the timings

using greataxe because its my weapon waifu

You should feel bad. Fuck outta here. NPC summons are somewhat excusable but using a player summon is just lame.

Also, just to add a thought to the thread, aimed at nobody in particular.

You often see people saying something like "I killed that boss on my first try, it's super easy!".

There's a real good chance that if the person making this statement has only played the game once then they really did just get lucky. It's possible to beat Aldrich without ever seeing the arrow volley, for example (happened on my first attempt).

This is without even going into builds used. Using a straight sword is far easier than using a great weapon, particularly late game when bosses get very aggressive and committing swinging a heavy weapon becomes more dangerous.

For every boss there's someone out there who just had an easy fucking time their first try.

Finally, there's nothing wrong with dying to any boss, it's not "le super hard game", but it is a game designed around trial and error.

>notice his theme song sounds kind of chaotic and aimless compared to most other boss themes
>look it up
>Motoi Sakuraba

Every time.

He can be pretty challenging, but feels great when beaten. Very rarely do all 3 of my group come out alive against him.

Definition of artificial difficulty.

try lothric helm, alva chest, leonhardt or EK gloves, EK legs, lothric shield

literally cant do better or be looking better as a knightly looking build with 15 vit and havel +1 ring

also why are you using a longsword? using SLSS or broadsword for that same weight

You can summon npcs?

Post fashion. r8h8apprecia8

Don't stay close to the bird, you can just run in and out when he's vulnerable. Keep him in front of your camera and when he pops up into the air you run directly away.

The second form is easy, just roll when he swings and learn what's safe to punish and what isn't.

beat soul of cinder on my first try on my blind run. took a bunch of tries to beat him on my pyromancer. Also beat dragonslayer armour on my first try, but that guy is just easy right?

...

Not for NK (that I know of) but there are NPC phantom summons, yes.

>Fought him and beat him on first try
>Convinced I got really lucky
>Fought him again in NG+
>Beat him again in one try
The dragon is harder than him

Holy smokes, I think the only thing I saw from Aldrich was the arrow volley

Dragonslayer Armour is actually just kind of easy, He'd fit right in somewhere earlier in the game, but he's kind of out of place between Dancer and Princes.

the crestfallen abyss watcher, forget his name, can be summed for NK

again, that being said, I just remembered sometimes he'll just spam shield slams, and that makes him a bit harder, but of the 5 times I beat him he only did that once.

I think it all coordinates quite well colour-wise, but I'm not mad about the light body armour and the heavy legs/hands.

7/10

>The dragon is harder than him
This shit triggers me more than anything else on Sup Forums right now. The dragon is so slow and steadily paced that you can fight it without much thought. The attacks have super forgiving dodge windows and all of them come out when you'd think they would. Then suddenly you're fighting Mr. Mixup who delays and cancels his attacks and punishes the ever loving shit out of early rolls.
