How do you feel about the next Wonder Boy?
How do you feel about the next Wonder Boy?
I think it looks really cute, but I've never played any of these games before.
Should I?
There's a new one???
there's a first one?
I am looking forward to it.
I think Wonderboy beats Rory tbqh, his style is memey but hard-hitting and I think him working takedown defense with Chris "My Boy" Weidman will be enough to defend anything Rory might threaten him with
Play 3 or 4
They are fun platformer/rpg hybrids
no
Looks good, what is it for?
So does Sega no longer have the rights to Wonder Boy?
this looks so damn good, seems a french comics mixed with the original japanese character design
Holy shit this looks great
Well the studio is French so it makes sense
This game looks freaking amazing! I actually find myself getting really excited for a new game for a change.
What a comfy feeling I get from this trailer, like I can sit back light up and play forever.
youtube.com
Play MW4.
That artwork really reminds me of Popful Mail (another gem with similar gameplay you should check out).
How can american and japanese even compete?
holy shit

>Wonder Boy 3: Monster World 2: Dragon's Trap
It's this series another Dark Forces 4 Jedi Knight 3 Jedi Outcast 2 Jedi Academy situation?
As long as it's not furry bait.
Yup. There's fucking TWO Wonder Boy 3s. The final game is just called Monster World 4.
yes
S H E E E I I T
Oh there's a remake of the orginal Dragon's Trap? I played the shit out of the Master System version when I was a kid. It looks cute.
pixelartfags btfo
Wait, there is another new Wonder Boy?
What is this then?
youtube.com
another game.
So yeah, 2 monster boys games coming.
Seems like Sega is licensing the trademark, the same situation as Shenmue 3
The nostalgia I have for Wonder Boy and Dragons Trap in particular is mighty
What is the secret of his power?
What platform?
Pc and some consoles.
Looks neat.
I NEED THIS NOW
i want this game
It's simple.
They can't.
Wonderboy 1 = Adventure Island clone, not amazing
Wonderboy in Monster land, linear platformer with rpg elements, quite good.
Wonderboy 3: The Dragons Trap, Metroidvania platformer which is pretty good, despite the annoying collision detection/hit animation.
Wonderboy 3 (Megadrive) Followup to Wonderboy 1 but with an added shootem up. It's weird.
Wonderboy in Monster World (Megadrive): probably the best in the series in terms of polish, builds on WB3 but without the monster forms.
Wonderboy IV less of a metroidvania than 3 or MW but some like it the most.
what is this?!!?!?!?!!?!???!
But will it have
JA JUNK JA JUNK JA JUNK
What is this a remake of dragons trap?
The next true sequel for wonderboy is monsterboy and the cursed kingdom and it looks great.
Either way its a good year to be a wonderboy fan
>There are TWO Monster World games coming soon
What a time to be alive
The first megadrive monsterworld is the best in the series. Dragons trap was decent but repetitive.
The monsterworld with the girl was pretty disappointing imo, the changes in equipment made no difference to appearance which really triggers my autism. The gameplay felt repetitive and it lost a lot of the exploration. Music was too notch though
Looks like Dofus
Dofus the movie.
...
...
came looking for this
...
look so fucking good
he gets a curse that makes him half dragon.
>"Eww it looks like a flash animation"
God fucking dammit. No wonder no one bothers to put the effort in and 2D games are all shitty mixel art.
Just because something has very clean line work, simple flat colours and is smoothly animated, it doesn't make it Vector/Tweening animation.
Heck you can see the linework and shading in 1080p, this has been hand animated.
same issue with Civ VI
>eww it look like Clash of Titans!
it's just cartoony, like Civ IV was.
Only slight shame is that it looks to be a totally faithful remake, still hoping that they add a bit more to the game so that players of the original get to experience some new stuff.
Monsterboy looks good too, has the original composer doing the music.
Anyone know which former members of West One are working on this game? They haven't given any specifics.
I loved Monster World IV but haven't gotten a chance to play the other games.
Hyped for this.
>Two new Wonder Boy games coming out
Is this real life?
Looks cool. Strikes the right balance between cute and mature.
The one you posted is a remake, OP.
Here's the real new Wonder Boy.
Really nice to see an European aesthetic for a change
The other games are well worth playing, Monster World and TDT are both classics.
Monster Land is fun but it is a linear arcade port and relies heavily on knowing a bunch of secrets to complete it.
>here's the real new Monster Boy
Fixed.
Looks good but it's a game that was a spiritual successor that got made more legit and had a reskin when one of the original creators came on board.
I'll probably buy both.
I've been waiting almost 20 fucking years for a new Wonder boy and 2 come in the same year...
>Aztec armored lion
Looks bitchin'
About the remake im pretty sure we will get more info this e3
This is my favorite game of all time
It looks like it might be a great game, but they can't match the other Frenchies on the art style department
It was Ryuichi Nishizawa, the original creator, who gave them his blessing into turning their game into a true successor. They even have Michiru Yamane working on the soundtrack.
Nishizawa's also behind this Dragon's Trap remake apparently.
I agree, but it's a new game while theirs is a remake. I'm excited for both.
Mônica mod when??
>The same creator overseeing 2 mostly identical projects at the same time.
Is it a good idea? Shouldnt he be worried about one project overshadowing the other?
the titlecard subheading's font is a e s t h e t i c
Dragons Trap is a remake and not a new game so it's probably not too difficult to oversee both.
I'd play that just for the style alone if the controls are tight and the gameplay ok.
I like the fact that one of the forms is the tavern pig.
Also, the music could be amazing
...
Neat.
The art style reminds me of Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit
Looking at the pictures in that video... I think that game was on GameCenter CX or I played it sometime.
holy shit, all those feels
Yeah, that's definitely neat
I like how there's a bunch of japanese staff working on it like the aforementioned Yamane. Even their trailer music was japanese
>it's a ouiaboo thread
Frenchfags are some of the most obnoxious people in world.
Probably have, the original game is a classic. It's less known in the US compared to the EU and Japan as it was a Master System (and PCE) title.
The game's great but tight controls aren't its strong point. Characters move like the floors slippery and the way you react to getting hit is a bit annoying.
How will the save system work? Obviously they won't do the password system.
WE5T ONE
don't pretend you don't know exactly what that does
>It's less known in the US compared to the EU and Japan as it was a Master System (and PCE) title.
I never played on a MS, but I own the Genesis collection on Steam, so I guess I must remember it from there.
>replayed Monster Land a couple of years back
>finally got to the final castle
>It's a bowser's castle style 'pick the correct route'
For a game with a really tight time limit that's utter bullshit.
You probably played the first Megadrive one.
Holy fuck that looks fun. What order do I play these games to get caught up with the series?
Elder God Tier:
Dragon's Trap
High Tier:
Monster World IV
Mid Tier:
Wonder Boy in Monster World
Low Tier:
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Shit Tier:
Monster Lair
Adventure island was the clone if wonderboy
Yep, that's it.
WB 3 is also in that collection.
Order is irrelevant.
Play in this order:
Monster Land -> Dragon's Trap -> Monster World (Genesis) -> Monster World IV
>Lion on the beach
wut
Wonder Boy 3 (MS one)
Wonder Boy in Monster World (MD)
Wonder Boy IV (MD)
Are the best games in the series. If this is a faithful remake, you may want to skip WB3.
Monster Land is a fairly unique game that's an aqcuired taste but lots of people like it.
Better Lion on the beach than standin
SO this is a remake of the master system one?
Take my fucking money.
It looks too good to be true.
What is the catch? There is a catch somewhere obviously.
Windows 10? Consolefag only? Game only lasts 2 hours tops? Not being localized? Not coming out for another 7 years? NEVER actually releasing? Costs retail? Tainted with some sorta DLC?
What's the catch?
That is Wonder Boy, this is Monster Boy.
Both new games based on Dragons's Trap.
Both showing incredible promising gameplay.
Both making muh dick hard.
it will sell poorly and the franchise will be dead forever
It's 6-8 hours long which was incredibly long for a platformer back then.
Well that's a given. Not really a catch honestly.
>back then
Now is not back then.
I never played Wonder Boy but the two games really look good.
Is it possible that because the two devs are doing basically the same thing which motivates both of them to make a really good game?
