Games where the first half is way better than the second

Games where the first half is way better than the second.

Dark Souls.

Final Fantasy IX

>Try to replay recently, start a 3rd save
>get bored around the part where you get the heat-vision
god damn it.

...

...

Basically every game when it gets boring after a while

Far Cry 3

...

thanks to rushed development. Thank you Activision, god damn it.

...

Alien isolation, the game is great but it just get tedious toward the end.

Pandora's Tower and fighting out of hell was retarded, and totally killed the majestic and epic tension the game was building in the first 3 hours.

Every survival horror game

After killing Hermes, you get to use his boots, the entirety of Olympus and the Zeus fights thereafter were no where near as satisfying as the siege on Olympus.

All souls games really. Except maybe Demon's.

...

After Carmine dies in the first game, it's pretty good, and watching Kim die is even better.

Then you go through the bog, through an underground mine, and onto a train, and none of it is nearly as visceral or grim.

Killing the locals was a good start, then the gameplay took a nosedive after you got into the oil refinery, and proceeded to plummet way farther down after you got into the ruins.

Same, always get burned out with the different visors

How about a game that is the opposite, aka, the more you play, the better it gets.

I don't think so. Prime is perfect.

Was really disappointed.
Wish there was some way of prolonging the first part.

I know i'll be in a minority here but I find mapping to be boring very quickly.

...

Onimusha 2 reporting in, sir!

...

fite me

MP is the opposite

The first half is dogshit boring and easy tutorial shit. Chozo ruins are a shit setting. It isn't until you get to phendrana drifts when things start to get semi interesting.

The whole game is pretty slow paced and boring anyways so whatever.

absolutely agree. also pic related

>Finish Fuchsia town
Team is pretty much done at that point. Insteresting abilities are also pretty much all unlocked. Whelp, time to reset.

You are not in the minority.

Mapping is a fucking awful excuse for end game, but it's impossible to make end game exciting in ARPG games.

No ARPG end game is fun. Not even Diablo 2 and that's my most played video game of all time and my favorite video game of all time.

...

The game being so piss easy really made me lose interest in MP.

Played it for the first time a few years ago, there is so much to love about the game but the weak difficulty made the game really unengaging.

does anybody here remember this game? it was kinda cool IMO

...

Most games honestly. And every single FF game ever.

>Guys I know, lets make a MMORPG with horror stuff, DNA tempering, HR.Giger-like dungeon, shapeshifting into monsters, etc.!
>Wow senpai!
>For the later areas and endgame? Gee I dont know, recycle everything from lower level, even dungeons, and make sure to make it pay2win at that point so free players are utterly fucked
God damn it Requiem Bloodymare, I loved you.

same here man, i never level past 80, act 1 on all difficulties is always the funnest part of this game for me.

I agree it's a drag for the next few gyms, but I always have fun with the Pokemon League because of the absurd level jump and how I refuse to use legendaries.

Games would be better if they were only under an hour in length and cost $20.

>1st half: awesome action-packed setpieces, epic light war story with time travel, main character is kind of a dick but still easy enough to relate to, annoying slut who acts like a toddler constantly gets in the way, gameplay sucks but is something new and innovative
>2nd half: annoying slut who acts like a toddler is now the love interest and a plot device, cutscenes become longer, setpieces become boring, contrived and dragged on for far too long, Squall's feelings for Rinoa out of nowhere after he wanted her to fuck off, gameplay still sucks

Where did it go wrong for this series?

>someone tell this guy about indie games
>mfw limbo was still too long
>mfw limbo was still godtier

You picked the worst possible Zelda game for this thread.

>finally get to play as based Uncle Dante
>he's even more boring and annoying to play as here than in fucking DMC2

These two are perfect examples.
Both impressed the hell out of me at the start and ended on a whimper. They felt like they ran out of ideas after the half hour.

No one actually thinks that

Phazon Mines were amazing though.
I will admit any "ghost" fight sections are almost lame though.

Okay I exaggerated a bit, but playing as him is not as fun as it should be.

No, you're just bad as him

This is more "game where the first and final thirds are way better than the middle" imo.

No I'm pretty sure it has to do with you backtracking the exact same levels and fighting the exact same enemies as Dante.

Metroid Prime is 10/10 amazing until the labs in Phendrana, then it picks up a bit after that, then hits a screeching halt at the Phazon Mines and never recovers.

there isn't really a first half though

there's like the first two missions that make up 1/100th of the game and then a fucking massive open world that makes up the meat of the game

I guess you can get burned out on platforming making the last "half" of the game feel worse, but playing the game in chunks sporadically fixes that issue imo

Pretty much every Final Fantasy except 12 (which has a shit first half but a good second half), 10 and 13 (which were just shit the whole way through.

Why are you moving goalposts? You said he was boring and annoying to play as, not that the levels were annoying to go back through.

the water world is nice but holy balls after the bot boss it gets meh

mine is repetitive, phendrana drifts part 2 and the frigate wreckage are good

Having to fight through all of that shit to the bottom of the mines and back without a single checkpoint was amazing?

Visor switches should be quick, like flicking a pair of lens up and down your nose so you can easily check for clues, rather than clunkily switching everything to one or the other.

Scan mode suits being its own dedicated mode, and should be operational with visors.

Dev high as fuck, doing whatever they want in that game

I disliked Chozo Ruins a lot. The game got better for me the more I played.

the metroid caverns bruh

Halo CE is a prime example

Not a huge fan of TP myself, is on the mark. TP is a starts-crap,-gits gud experience on macro.

I don't see it for Limbo, but Antichamber bored me completely by the 2/3 mark.

Sup Forums, I am impressed.

You meant to post Wind Waker

Who?

.

Why are you so quick to assume that just because I don't like a part of a game it just means I suck at it? I never said he was too hard to play as either. Hell if I sucked at the game I wouldn't have made it to Dante in the first place. It's boring because you're going through the exact same motions as Nero except with Dante.

>Guns are rare in Hong Kong because they're illegal
>Every police officer and criminal has a gun in the second half of the game

all of the worlds after the basement and Boo's Mansion are pretty damn boring, to be honest.

I liked TP from the end of the game, but it wasn't nearly as good as the beginning.

The Fire Temple and the Lakebed Temple were some of the best dungeons in the game, after that you have to wait until the Arbiter's grounds to even hope of having a good dungeon. Temple of Time was literally tedious and Celestia had a nice atmosphere, but as a dungeon I don't see what the talk is about, being able to use dual clawshots is cool, but it's still poorly designed.

Solatorobo gets far better after the first half.

t, Henry

I pretty much agree with all you say here. However, consider: THE EXTENDED OPENING TUTORIAL.

Now the table is mostly stacked on the late-game side.

I agree there, sumo wrestling and taking those goats down was pretty tedious.

First half of DaS3 is garbage compared to the second half.

>mfw that's exactly were I dropped and never touched the game again

don't even remind me of this piece of shit it started out so fucking good then what you fight the fucking internet in 1950? what the fucking fuck is that

more like the first 10th and the final 5th are way better than the middle

once you git gud you learn to appreciate them. I'm not even shitting, that's exactly how it was for me

I felt after the arena, its all downhill, and builds start feeling samey.

Chapters 1-4 are way more than half the game though.

In after dark souls 2nd half is bad meme

Clear indicator of having been exposed to the game before you played it

They're really not.

Chapters 1-4 are an OK RPG at best.
Chapters 5-8 are an intense, gruelling battlefest with satisfying victories.

I mean in terms of length. You can blast through 5-8 in hours if you ignore the repeatable sidequests.

2nd floor ones are pretty good I thought.

The game was great but I doubt anyone besides autists have the patience to play the game without a guide past the first 4 or 5 bosses

The only good part about the second half is that you can go to Oolacile.

There should be a law against making cleanup in Metroid-type games a mandatory objective.

It's definitely overblown how bad the second half is. It's worse than the first half, but the only actually BAD area is Ruins of Izalith.

compared to the first half it was meh but they were still awesome levels regardless.

The only absolutely terrible level is izalith
