This soundtrack has a fuckton of tunes, 490 to be exact. Ian Taylor fucking pumped this amount out in less than four years and the amount of quality in the tracks is at a consistently above average level. Post your favorite Oldscape songs here, preferably lesser known ones though

I don't remember Runescape having music when I played it. Then again the highest tier gear was adamantite when I played.
Its been a while but I seem to recall the fishing colony with the monkfish having really chill music.

Scrolling through a Runescape song title list just sent me into a very intense flashback.
Thank you.

Why cant we have a beautiful quest unique, skill based, socialised, hard money earning, pvp game anymore.
Why lads, why...

RS hasn't shutdown, you know.
Looking back I'm so fucking impressed by how good Runescapes quests were. I can't really think of another game that captures how alive Runescape felt in its heyday
its not special anymore
old school is a meme fan service game with 0 new players.
So come play RS3.
it sucks, they ruined the combat
graphics are cool ill give them that.
but rs3 is pretty dead too, old school is surpassing it kek
Things were so simple then, so pure of heart and soul. I deeply miss it.
Was there any other mmo where reading the conversations actually was usefull and fun?
Is OSBuddy broken or some shit? Wanted to play some for a bit today and it just never fully boots up.
most underrated track in the game
youtube.com
So simple, yet the melody is so beautiful and distinctive. It cuts to the very heart of my soul. It played on the road leading to Falador if I recall.
>it sucks, they ruined the combat
You should give it a try. Momentum makes it pretty AFK and enjoyable. It certainly fixed the shit that was magic combat.
>but rs3 is pretty dead too, old school is surpassing it kek
Nah, RS3 has more players and far less severe bot problem (biggest bot problems are limited to few enemies and bowstrings)
No game comes close to how imporant it was to socialise (not in a gay second life way)
The whole game was based around it.
I remember the one f2p quest where you could go 2 different routes. And no matter which you chose, another player in that gigantic world had to take the other route.
I think the other player would get the key and had to trade it to you and you would get something else to trade to him. Only that way both could finish the quest.
You were not in a instance or something like that. You were in middle of varrock and had to search for some other dude that is doing the opposite thing of that quest
>this song that played at the very, very edge of the wilderness
The gang quest where the two are fighting and the two of you infiltrate them.
>tfw you could pass freely the gate after you done the al kharid quest while you watch the other noobs pay for entrance or the jewish scrubs run around the gate because they couldnt afford to pay 30 gold or whatever
>you should give it a try
but i did, started a new acc last summer. Shat up /rsg/ so hard they literally paid me to stop posting.
Had fun but the game sucks mate.
I made enough money that every now and then I buy a bond a play, but theres not much to do.
>its not dead
yes it is mate, 39k players it online right now says the main site, and that oldschool and rs3 combined
yes exactly thats it. Fantastic quest designs in this game man
I used to hang around quest areas with important quest items and food. I thought I was a genius, selling in such hostile, far-off places. Unfortunately nobody ever brought actual valuables with them to Monkey Island or the Desert Treasure smoke dungeon.
>tfw grinding away on Barbarians while this plays

OSRS is 50k during peak, mate
This game is so awful now, it's got cash shop shit just smeared all over the UI even if you're a member
what things did the old combat do right?
>yes it is mate, 39k players it online right now says the main site, and that oldschool and rs3 combined
That's really not something you'd call dead.
RS3 since bot nuke has had lower amounts of players because bots made a HUGE part of the game's "players". Shit you had literally never ending line of bots going from Graahk teleport to Nature Altar.
OSRS is still suffering from the fact that it has shit bot detection. Fishing bots, mining, woodcutting, BEGGING, money doubling, all sorts of fucking bots everywhere.
The only real explanation is "unique" and "afk".
That's pretty much all the combat ever was, really.
Biggest flaw of old combat was the same as why people called it "good". It's afk and it's fucking slow to train.
> it's got cash shop shit just smeared all over the UI even if you're a member
No it doesn't. There's literally just one bonus tab among the quest, inventory and all that shit.
And the chest minigame that has a buy more keys button everytime you play it
Nigga you can click "X" and you don't have to buy keys. I've never bought any keys for it.
>tfw later on I would mute the game to listen to the All American Rejects
I still remember songs like though.

I always listened to this one on repeat back in the day.

RS3's got good tracks mechanically speaking, but I feel like a lot of the heart is gone. The old MIDIs used to know how to use silence, now everything in RS3 is connected by orchestral sounds with very little silence.

39k players online at 7:30 in the morning in eastern North America? Say it isn't so!
Also that's the RS3 number. You find the OSRS number when you go into that section. During peak hours RS3 can still hit 60-90k. Currently it's 56k RS3 and 26k OSRS.
That said, I'll agree that something special is gone. Everyone focuses on grinding efficiency, you gain bonus xp and lamps at the drop at a hat. People only ever spend time in one of the two Grand Exchanges, or the areas for intense skilling action around the second one. Player interaction has hit an all time low, and they still haven't added some of the better minigames to shard worlds so that you don't have to go to a specific world or find a specific clan just to play it, not that anyone would because they're all too busy maxing out 99s like nobody's business.
The biggest mistake Jagex made was failing to cull the number of worlds to congregate their players together after the bot nuke, because they actually left that shit up to a player vote like just how stupid can you get?
Part of me understands how easy it is to get levels nowadays. With so many skills, and so many quests taking high levels from so many skills, it's not like the old days where there were only a handful and every level meant something, now each level is worth less compared to all the others you have to get and only significant progress towards being able to do or access something is worth anything.
That said, a big issue with older skills is a lack of worth in what you can access - high level mining and smithing has shit all that's worthwhile to make nowadays. If you want to smith something decent, you'll have to participate in something that isn't mining and you'll probably need to utilize a different skill in conjunction. Hell, now that there's adamant and rune dragons, high level combatants don't even need to mine to get those ores that are a pain in the ass to access and process. They've failed to keep shit like that upkept.
>each quest introduces puzzles not typically seen in the main game (well, after a certain point. RSClassic quests like with beads or witch potion were kind of ass)
>many often utilize thought rather than just "go here, kill that, collect this"
>many a quest introduce a completely new area with something new to do, sometimes you'll even unlock it outside of the quest
>sometimes entirely new skill training mechanics are unlocked
>or sometimes minigames
>persistent characters start to become beloved, such as Zanik

Nuh-uh.
Revolution is just fine. Line up your basic abilities and watch your character act them out in order of cooldown. What I like about Revolution is that it gives me a sort of happy medium between the afk combat of yesteryear and the key rolling combat of eoc. You can arrange your bar in different ways if you want to take a more defense-first priority, or a more damage-first priority, or a more debilitation-first priority. Of course the really good abilities are player-activated and can't be automatically fired off, but you'll only press a button like once every 10-20 to every couple minutes seconds depending on your levels and equipment, if that.
I've pretty much reduced Barrows, except for ___ the Doomed, to click and watch.
DELETE THIS
You guys all know that the official Old School (2007) Runescape servers are free-to-play now right? Although if you don't get members you're a scrub
After quitting RS and starting WoW made me realize how uniquely good RS quests were. What the fuck prevented other mmo makers have quality quests?
Can't wait for people to nostalgia and wish they could go back, when RS3 is basically the same and is still running. Hell, you can pay for membership with ingame money.
It makes sense for anyone complaining about RO or WoW, but Runescape never died
>tfw poorfag family with only one shitty ass PC located in the living room
>tfw always had to play RS muted because parents/siblings were always watching TV and would yell at me if i made noise
What happened in The Mighty Fall? You better not be telling me they killed off Zanik, I can remember that fucking name and it's been years since I last played
But Zanik can be revived in one of the newer quests :^ )
This game still has some of the best looking armor in my opinion (meaning old school runescape)
its just so beautifully traditional.
RuneScape developed a huge area to work within, and then started adding to that over time with little bits and bobs, whereas many other MMOs have to release several smaller quests with a new area expansion which is a huge deal. Instead, RuneScape focused on creating smaller areas with unique experiences you couldn't normally find in the game normally for its quests.
Penis
Wc
They killed off Zanik.
And they made her ugly as hell, to boot.
It was a really awful quest, a truly terrible legacy to The Chosen Commander which was my all time favourite quest.
I TOLD YOU NOT TO TELL ME THAT
FUG
They left Zanik's life in your hands. If you kill her, someone else becomes racial leader. If you spare her life, she disappears into yu'bliusk because she wants to find some hippy land. I thought the latter was stupid so I executed her. She was brought back to RS for a new grandmaster quest where you're given the option to bring her back to life for a few years as guardian of the Soul Wars obelisk.
FLUTE
FUCKING
SALAD
I was always interested in the elemental workshop stuff, anyone know what went on after II?
snib?
they put in a 128x128 Sliding Puzzle like the one you see from monkey madness
they called it Elemental Workshop IV
Seriously though they added some new quests that added some of the hardest puzzles in RS. Elemental gear still sucks ass.
Thank you user, someone posted it, thank you
RS3's EOC is actually so fucking good. Not because it's somehow exciting, but because you get the ability to gain xp way faster than ever before.
You know what was really cool? When they put that "security tutorial" thing in barbarian village, and at the end you got those cool rainbow shoes.
>Going to pickpocket HAMmys
>Flute salad play
Really love this song, I still wonder why it was called Salad tbqh
Love it
this song always made me feel
youtu.be
It was a pretty neat way of doing the account security teaching, especially since alot of people who played were dumb kids that were easily scammed (read: me)
>tfw killing your first highwayman and getting your first cloak
>getting that bronze armor and some boots/gloves looking like a goddamn knight finally
>eventually learn how to mine rune essence and mine that shit like a fucking chinaman until you could afford that rune
>lose it all in one fell swoop to a trim scam
i regret nothing
If you don't execute her, then she spends some time leading the former Bandosians in Yu'Biusk, and then dies as her life runs out because beating the Avatar of Bandos out of her and killing Bandos fucked her over bad.
They could have done a better quest with that idea. A much better quest that would have let Zanik at least die with some dignity, and a proper model. As it is... fucking disgusting, awful quest full of reused assets and progressed by shit tier repeat battles.
How free are we talking? Are members areas and a bunch of skills still members-only?
It's a pun on "Fruit Salad" with flute instead of fruit.
>Newbie Melody
fucking FEELS
what was the epitome of the game and why was it 2008
oh god the nostalgia... the nostalgia...... so gooood....ahhhh.....
It's okay, they fixed her.

Never played Runescape. Would this game have any merit to me?
It seems you're all collectively masturbating about experiencing it when you were young back in 2000-whatever, but what about the game itself today to someone who has no idea about any of it?
