How? They're often some of the best paced games. And the best games in their genre are almost infinitely replayable with better, more meaningful choices than most other genres. Hell Super Metroid is easily one of the greatest games of all time.

its relatively easy to get into for plebians and camwhores, it's free, it doesn't require a particularly good setup to play and also requires no twitch reaction times or tactical thinking / listening for footsteps and all that shit online shooters require more or less
