I just started this game earlier this week and this is my main gripe about it

I'm almost level 20 and I haven't had to interact with another person once

The last two levels I gained were just from talking to people without fighting a single thing

Y'shtola is back but "blind". Thancred is back but can't use magic anymore. Yda and Papalymo are fucking around in Ala Mihgo. Minfilia fused with Hydaelyn.

Thank fucking God on only having 6 MSQ. The grind from ARR to HW is a nightmare as is.

This. I hit 50 off the free month and stopped playing. Then I started playing again with HW but it took me like 2 weeks to get through all the level 50 story quests. Drove me fucking insane.

Not only is the game solo-able, but it's actually anti-friend in the sense every non-dungeon instance must be done solo anyway.

And you'll probably never see the people you do dungeons with again.

The game could be considered a half decent if not really boring and repetitive single player rpg if the story quests didn't occasionally make you queue up some randoms for a dungeon or boss

AST isn't too bad, and a bunch of people use SCH/AST for midas. SCH right now is still irreplaceable for raids though. AST is getting their absorb heal stance buffed next week, but i don't know if it'll do much

Personally I have a problem with the special non-dungeon instances. The game goes out of it's way to show that you're the chosen one even though there was that one scene that clearly showed you were not the only newcomer to start making changes in the world. Like every time I got a job class it's like

I don't know I've only leveled monk to 43 so far, but none of the monk quests are like that. Just helping some scientist do his readings and opening chakras in the process.

In a game like FFXIV where there's always SOMETHING menial to grind on like dailies or DOH/L shit, you can make your own social opportunities by inviting them to join you.

Even if it's just one stupid thing one stupid time, you both made some progress and they (possibly) got a little more comfortable being around you, which is a start.

I wouldn't know. I have yet to get past the main story quests for ARR so forgive me as my gripes may be outdated. I heard they now have a legitimate reason for thousands of bonafide jumpin' dragoons running around now but I have yet to get far enough to see it.

Like the world doesn't even recognize that anybody but a single "warrior of light" exists. Which is how you end up in situations like ravana where you clearly did not solo him, but the story and all the characters ACT like you did.

Dragoons aren't the same as the Azure Dragoon.

Dragoons are just a special type of knight that focuses on spears and huntin' Dragons. Estinien is the one true Azure Dragoon chosen by Nidhogg's eye.

Even in the DRG quest, the eye only chose you because Estinien was corrupted. After he shook off Nidhogg's influence, he went right back to being the captain of the Dragoon and the real Azure Dragoon.

The WoL is just some kind of anomaly that also had an eye of Nidhogg temporarily, making him more special than the average DRG. That's no longer the case and Estinien is way more capable as a DRG.

Honestly there's little to no reason to actually have an FC if you don't want the social aspect of it. The exp buff is the biggest loss and that's assuming they even keep it up.

He in fact did not die when you killed him, and he regained his control over the Azure Eye so he joins you to finally kill Nidhogg in the 3.0 MSQ.

in the dragoon questline you end up talking to estinien about nidhogg and the like. estinien ends up getting mind controlled and you fight him.

after you make him come to his senses, or if you never did the level 50 drg quest its never brought up, he appears in 2.5 as the azure dragoon, the super dragoon that has a dragon's eye that lets him weaken and overpower dragons

after giving Ysayle the bantz, going ripper mode on Nidhogg, he gets his ass corrupted again, this time fully so he becomes host to Nidhogg

Not him, but in terms of getting the active bonuses and other perks like the FC box, yes. If all you're doing for the crew is logging in and having the tag next to your name, you're leeching those bonuses. The FC points that auto-generate usually don't count for groups that actually give a shit about being a unit.

I don't raid chests or anything, I just log in and play. I mean, I help people out if they need it, but I don't really talk if there's nothing to say. If simply not being sociable and entertaining makes me a waste of space, perhaps it's better I just leave.

The five percent isn't going to break the game, sure, but there's no disadvantage to NOT having it. Anyway I don't know how shit is for newer raid content so who knows maybe pve has outgrown the need for mantra.
