In fact the only JRPGs I've played are FF7 over 10 years ago, Chrono Trigger a few years ago which was quite good and Recettear.
I don't even know why.

The PS1 disc drive was extremely sensitive to scratched discs. Even a molecule of dust would make an FMV freeze or stutter like crazy.

Meanwhile, my Dreamcast and PS2 would breeze through FMV in slightly scratched discs just fine.

Disgaea was one I liked and a I really loved final fantasy tactics advanced. There's many more but that specific genre is my favourite to come out of Japan. I have passing affection for dark souls, and I own a vita with a bunch of weeb games. Often times I haven't found much reason to buy more Japanese games however recently.
