I'm going to start playing the Witcher games in order. Any tips/ recommendations before I start?

get ready for shitty combat
get ready for an awful crafting system
I recommend you to take them to GameStop for instore credit because they suck
Stick through the first 2 arcs in TW1, no matter what! Way too many rookies these days seem to lose interest in those parts, which are literally the game's version of tutorials and introduction phases.
After that, you will find one of the best and most atmospheric CRPGs made in a looong time.
you can skip TW2. It's terrible.
Witcher 1 might seem a bit shitty at first, but once you get used to the slightly wonky combat it's a fantastic game.
Witcher 1 is awful. Never played the other 2 because the first one was so boring.
Just play the third one.
play #1, skip the others. They're console trash.
your """taste""" is awful, m8
>Stick through the first 2 arcs in TW1, no matter what! Way too many rookies these days seem to lose interest in those parts, which are literally the game's version of tutorials and introduction phases.
Excellent point
>After that, you will find one of the best and most atmospheric CRPGs made in a looong time.
Absolutely correct
>you can skip TW2. It's terrible.
Fucking retard
This is what made me uninstall and never return after only 20 minutes.
Don't listen to anyone. Play the games and see if you like them, because everyone will give you a different opinion
>Witcher 1
>boring
look at this plebeian faggot who probably didn't even bone every female creature in the game.
Yes, play Skyrim instead
this is why gaming is so shit nowadays:
ADHD, casual console faggots.
just skip 1 & 2
2 was one of the shittiest, most boring fucking piles of crap I have ever played. I STILL have been struggling to find the will to finish it after all these years.
god DAMN it sucks. its a fucking chore to get through. just skip to 3, I am not even kidding.
This thread will be spammed.
Almost all the posts will be 'the first witcher sucked'
its no worse than knights of the old republic or any pc rpg for the time.
If you like long winded rpg with a shit ton of hours and side quests you will enjoy.
dont let Sup Forums ever scare you off a game ive been here since the beginning
...
Don't even act like its not true.
TW2 sucks pretty bad.
>all these kids dissing W1
What the fuck? TW1 is better than TW2. It doesn't rush you along and the environments and atmosphere was just much better. You want to explore every thing. In TW2, it seems like CDPR tried to make it a cinematic experience, the gameplay wasn't as smooth. I don't know about anyone else but I also preferred the combat in TW1 more. It felt very fluid and the different stances were nice to use.
Fortunately TW3 was a bit more like TW1 once again. Shame it still shows its console roots.
TW2 is by far the weakest game in the series, but it's still decent and is worth playing.
TW2 is worth skipping.
its clunky, its boring, just watch all the cut scenes on jewtube. TW1 was decent enough to be enjoyable, but TW2 was just so fucking hard for me to even finish.
play witcher 1 with as many mods as you can
I don't understand why the save system in 2 is such utter shit. Do they fix it in the 3rd one?
>play witcher 1 with as many mods as you can
No
Don't
If you were born after 1995 and can't appreciate games for what they do well, killing yourself is a good way to prepare yourself for good video games.
2 has objectively the best story out of the lot
Fucking kys
What the fuck is this shit?
This is the first time I've seen anyone say TW2 was shit
Swiftly end life
TW1 combat is point and click, TW2 and TW3 combat is boring
TW2 is an over-rated porn game. It's shit
Yup, and in every game the main element of the plot is: "Go find this" It's just so boring imo
I'm currently trying to play through Witcher 2 because I'm skeptical about 3 being as good as people say.
I have to say, the entire first act in the swamp is atrocious. The missions were boring, the story was hard to care about, the swamp was ugly, and you barely get into any of the talent trees. Worst of all, the boss fights are not only bad but actively offensive. Hitting Letho with Aard, taking a few swings, and repeating that over and over for 5+ minutes was unbelievable.
But I'll be damned if act 2 isn't way better. The story actually goes somewhere, you get farther into the talent trees, you get to make some better gear, the mountains look interesting enough to want to explore and the dwarves are bro-tier.
Don't.
only plebs will say the first one is bad.
it's maybe the best game, you just have to get into the clicking combat. I enjoyed the combat.
2 is the worst game by far, but still worth a play through. I beat it three times.
> Geralt
ha
also the first one is shit and the clicking combat is not fun.
I was told to read the books for extra story references so that's what I'm doing before I jump in. Anyone else read em?
I've read the last wish and am just finishing the sword of destiny. They're pretty good.
my guess is you haven't beaten it, nor came anywhere close
you honestly have no reason to even post if you aren't going to contribute, but it's ok. youngfags like you with shit taste need something to do.
This
Sup Forums adored 2 before 3 came out, now all the sudden Witcher threads are full of fags saying its the worst in the series. Sure its clunky and rough around the edges, but the fucking story and characters are the series best. If your not playing these games for that, then dont bother.
Well thanks for all of your thoughts n shit. I'm going to go ahead and dive in and see what lies in store for me.
I beated the game boy.
Read some of the books.
At least read the short stories. Easy reads that pretty damn good and introduce you to the world and characters well. The Saga is meh. Starts out pretty good but is pretty shitty by the end.
Get the walking speed mod for the first game. You shouldn't need everything else for the second and get Friendly HUD for the third.
The second game really is the worst.
>Combat is awful (no targeting, forget trying to use parrying and invest in dodge instead).
>Skill points are scarce.
>Mutagens are awful (who came up with the idea of permanent mutations when early game mutagens are far weaker than midgame mutagens?)
>It's easy to inadvertently miss on items and other shit you might need way later in the game when you can't backtrack.
>Use of intimidation and even Axii depends on fucking dice rolls.
It's still a must play if only because it introduces so much shit you see in the third game but still. I would never go back to it after playing 3.
I gave up on Witcher 1 near the beginning of Chapter 3. I didn't have much hope I'd start enjoying it. I mentioned this in another thread, but I think I just have a hard time getting into an RPG that doesn't let me play a full spellcaster.
I am currently playing witcher 1. It a pretty decent combat system. I just hope the game is not long enough for it to become boring.
It gets better as you unlock more shit. If you like it at the beginning you wont have a problem.
I actually hated it for the first few chapters but then it grew on me.
I actually kind of miss stances. I don't think it should be the timed click thing, but I wish they would have kept stances around instead of light/strong attack. Used to depend on the enemy which stance to use, now it just depends on if you want to spec light or strong attacks, there's no real reason to use both.
