The programmers still got paid their salary.
The developers and publishers still had waves of fans buying the game in support.
And the game gets more attention because both sides can play it.

As for piracy, the anti-piracy report form is for people who are actually selling bootlegs and shit. Like if you found some website that is selling CDs with Nintendo roms on them, or if you local Gamestop was selling flashcarts, then you could report them. Console hacks themselves are not illegal, nor is the act of hacking, or discussing it.

I tried to play smash 4 today but it required an update. The "launch software" button wasn't there so I wasn't able to play it without allowing the update. I found this odd so I turned off the console and my wifi and booted it up again. When I tried to play smash it still said I needed the update but with the wifi being off I wasn't able to to update. If I actually didn't have internet, if it went down or something, I would have been locked out of my game. Nintendo can now enforce DRM onto its console. Fuck them.
