WAKE ME UP INSIDE
CAN'T WAKE UP
This is kinda depressing. Short of Deus Ex this is pretty much the only Western game I was looking forward to.
I mean I know its EA, but I really did like the first one.
>goobergate raiding metacritic just because a game has a female protag
yuck
Even IGN doesn't like MEC.
It's shittier than the first pretty much in every way.
Wait, a sequel came out. What happened?
it's not as bad as the user scores make it out to be
it's not good by any means, but it's not shit either
you can pretty much turn off all the annoying runner's shit
the terrain is okay, but suffers from the disorganization you would expect from an open world game
combat is shit, but we knew that going into it
all in all, solid 7 can even go up to an 8 at times
NOBODY RELEVANT IS STREAMING THIS GAME
>shit game gets a shit sequel
Who could see it coming?
>Added hud
>focus on combat which in turn made the combat worse
>grappling hook
>leveling system to gain the ability to free run instead of just having it
>overdesigned aesthetic
>open world
all the reviews i've read said it was a bad game for being like mirrors edge.
i'll probably buy it since that's what I want.
I don't know what the fuck they expected it to be like.
>it's not good by any means
>solid 7
What the fuck?
That is fucking tragic.
It's insane how they can fuck up a game about parkour the 1st games free running obstacle courses are still some of the most fun I've had.
>it's not good by any means
>7
wouldn't a 5 be more appropriate?
>it's not good by any means
>7
>wouldn't a 5 be more appropriate?
More like a 2-3 with points added for aethetics and grafix.
Jesus Christ, enough with the fucking boogeymen. Maybe the game isn't well received because it's a shit game.
Jesus christ.
>game everyone knew was going to be bad is bad
What a surprise.
>streaming
>relevant
Reminder that if you unironcally put those two words together your shit
>hey guys we made an almost entirely unique game that did well
>what should we do?
Sit on it for a decade then make a sequel
>Okay what should be in the sequel? More of the same on a better engine with more content right?
No, follow gaming trends that are falling out of favor and give it a thin veneer of the original games content taken wholesale.
open world is literally the only good sounding thing about it
It ends up taking away from the overall level design
open world was incredibly unnecessary
>It's not good
>Solid 7
YOU ARE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE WORLD. YOU'RE SO FUCKING RETARDED.
Was Mirror's Edge ever good? I don't understand the suprise and why they made a sequel.
I like Faith, though.
>this is what IGN actually believes
I wonder who's behind this post?
Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games. There are undoubtedly massive flaws, but at its core it's a very solid first-person platformer with a fair amount of depth and a unique aesthetic. The pure time trials DLC is god-tier. I was definitely looking forward to a sequel so they could remove the combat, fix the story, and give us more great level design to time trial on. Unfortunately with Catalyst they seem to have done the exact opposite, plus murdered the visual design to boot.
have you considered that the game is bad?
>>Sup Forums

>980 to run at 1080 on high settings
>origin only
SAVE MAAAY
ME was a sleeper hit.
I bought my copy for £3 in a bargain bin.
>leveling system to gain the ability to free run instead of just having it
What in the unholiest of fucks
It was okay. Not holy shit amazing but not bad either. I can't imagine paying more than $10 for it though.
It's EA, they manage to fuck up basic concepts
>grappling hook
>leveling system to gain the ability to free run instead of just having it
Are you serious? That's like having a first person shooter and forcing you to level up shooting so you can use a gun.
AKA every FPS made in the last 10 years. Thankfully overwatch removed that cancer.
Hit the nail on the head.
>remove the combat
Instead we get the lazy hand-to-hand shit and even more forced combat sections.
>fix the story
Instead it's a generic coming of age story with incompetent and annoying characters that are constantly shoved in your face.
>great level design
Instead the city is a bland open world, and skill tree unlocks ensure every area is accessible only through basic moves.
>open world
>leveling system
oh for fuck's sake WHY
WAKE ME UP, CANT WAKE UP SAVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Hey, I mainboard on Sup Forums, and they fucking hate Gamergate. Because everyone does. Because Gamergate is everyone's scapegoat. You just stop being an intellectually lazy prick and substantiate your fucking arguments, you faggot.
Just played like 4 hours and I can say if I didn't just drop $60 on it I wouldn't sill be playing it.
>graphics somehow got worse
>worst open world design in the history of ever
>can never tell if I'm looking at a wall or the floor
>it's always too bright or too dark
>one hit kill most guards
>always falling through the map or going through the wall
>always either die or survive 4 feet drops
>nogunz
>doesn't feel as open as the first game somehow
>open world game now means no where is polished and detailed so it's always super boring
>open world cancer claims another game
Remember when yahtzee shat all over the original game because he thought 1st person platforming was always a terrible idea, and then it caught on like wildfire?
Well I mean yahtzee is a fucking idiot
They just "innovated too hard" again.
I think you don't actually control the grapplehook
Also just saw a streamer beat the game, what a shitty mess
why design platforms when you can just put a grappling hook there
Ahahaha oh wow
What's the point of a grappling hook if you can't use it at your own leisure?
My guess is that because it's open world garbage they had to have some kind of fast travel system.
The idiots had to put it in just to let a parkour character cross large sections of the city. Because an actual open world city isn't truly conducive to parkour. So it's a cheat just to get across sections that the mechanics you actually want out of the game won't let you get across.
Once I heard about this damned grappling hook I knew they had fucked up this open world shit. Fucking ruined it by going with a fad.
Because literally every game has grappling hooks this year for some fucking reason. Someone somewhere must've focus group tested that shit and found people like it. It's overuse is a little concerning now.
>Take a game with simple design
>Do anything and everything possible to ruin the original appeal.
I wonder how long it will take for this to change from a gameplay discussion to a story one?
Stop talking like you're 12
no one really played it so it more then likely wont
again, how is that giving them bad reviews since journos and normies have bad taste?

becuase the only people that cared for this game are fans of the original
>Mirror's Edge is one of the games where lineal, heavily scripted corridor sequences actually worked
>They turned it into open world shit
It's like the world went mad
Or, ME fans fucking hate it. Which we know to be true.
So, what is this? Like, 3 layers of irony?
I dunno, here's that (you).
>EA
>so how do we fuck this sequel up?
the memes never lie. I bet the root cause is the stupid fucking focus groups wanting to add unnecessary shit
It's a regular occurrence from EA, on occasion they will make a great IP and shit all over it in one of the sequels. It was just time for Mirror's Edge
I'm sure the game is still going to sell enough to turn a profit for EA.
First one was okay at beat and this sequel appears to do nothing new and maybe even less?
Are people really shocked by this score?
I dont think most people even know this game exists.
the first one has unique and genuily good gameplay
it had flaws but it was overall enjoyable and the speed running aspect gave it replayability
the new one took out any and everything people liked about it
no one is suprised
just sad
The first game was unique, if a bit short and flawed. I don't know anything about the second, but this isn't exactly surprising; EA is capable of fucking up a good thing.
For the PC players out there, does anyone know if this is just another stupid Origin exclusive turd, or does it use something like Denuvo on top of it? For all their faults EA usually doesn't add the shittiest copy protection known to man atop their proprietary Origin titles, so if they did that here then there's zero chance i'll be buying it. Otherwise, I'll pirate it see if its another "gonna beat it in a couple hours, kinda forgettable" experience or not and then decide...
EA STRIKES AGAIN
>game panders to non-fan whiners
>turns out poorly
Why are we even making threads about this? Should we make a thread every time the sun rises? Shit.
>EA
>making good games
BEFORE YOU GO GO
The open world meme is killing vidya
good, let it flop, they wanted Anita in on the decisions, they wanted Anita's base, they got it.
Look how well its selling and look at the low score.
THAT'S WHO YOU MADE THE GAME FOR!
Oh and if the game turned out truly shitty... I remember way back when there was some sort of issue about Anita or some similar SJW disciple being given a job working on this title.
Did that actually pan out, and is it part of the reason the game turned out shitty? From the criticisms I see, it ignored the gameplay that made the first unique etc... which seems like something one of those ilk would do, favoring instead drumming up certain "story" elements.
(((You)))
I don't understand.
How do you fuck up such a simple concept? How do you make the sequel worse in literally everything?
>it's not good by any means
>solid 7
most games that come out nowadays suck. It's truly a rare event that I play a refreshing game that is really good. I think the last one I played was a telltale game.
>most western* games that come out nowadays suck
last one i played was ori and the blind forest. it actually made me sad that the game wasn't longer
Those negative comments are hilarious
>MEC is so dull, boring and repetitive! The combat and story are so shit!
>play ME instead!
The irony certainly isn't lost on me.
Here is the real difference.
Mirror's Edge theme song.

Catalyst theme song.

>telltale
>game
Pick one
FUCk you.
They were dumb enough to listen to all the idiots saying "Wouldn't it be cool if ______ was open-world?" without actually stopping to think about whether or not it would actually be cool.
Really, I think the only way to make an open-world Mirror's Edge cool would be if instead of controlling Faith, you controlled Spider-Man.
telltale interactive story. my bad.
...
I don't dislike that song on its own, but goddamn it sounds like it should have been in Hotline Miami or something.
This is a terrible fit for an open world.
yahtzee also shit one one of the most aesthetically excellent games of all time, kane and lynch 2 dog days, for it's aesthetics, because he's an incredibly stupid man.
of all the things to pick on, this is what you choose? both songs are really great, and they made the right choice making this song the successor to still alive.
of course they'd never beat still alive, but this is probably the best that can be done. what do you want? a remix of still alive?
Funny he says this, because stuff like Mirror's Edge has the ideal female protagonist: incidentally female.
>they made the right choice making this song the successor
Her boobs are too small, her ass is also too small, and her face is not as pretty as it could be, imo.
Goddamnit EA
>not liking chvrches
as i said, they made the right choice
