Why Overwatch will never surpass TF2

If Overwatch really wanted to replace TF2 then why aren't they supporting computers that are just able to run TF2?

Surely it if you wanted the audience, it would be better to support the medium they use.

You mean low-end PCs or things like Mac and Linux?

I think he means like toasters.

TF2 doesn't run as good as it used to on toasters though does it? I hear a lot of the newer stuff isn't well optimized

The render scale thing or whatever it's called allows anyone to run Overwatch at 60fps. It looks like shit, but you can still do it.

TF2 kinda runs bad these days, ya know?
poorly optimized.
And I'm a huge tf2 fan.

Overwatch does at least 30 fps on Skylake integrated graphics you know

At 720p. I can't get 30fps on 1080p. I'm Using an Intel HD530 on my i5-6500.

Dosent overwatch run on toasters? I mean I have a few friends who played TF2 with me and they still had the same PCs when overwatch came out and have been able to run it fine.

It'll run, just at ps Vita tier resolution/detail.

Overwatch runs fine on my 4yo laptop

The game is for the blizzard audience, first and foremost.
Why do you think the fov fiasco happened in the first place? With blizzdrones mindlessly taking blizzard's side?

Linux support is increasingly important, nobody wants to be stuck with Windows 10. Its not that far off that Windows 7 isn't going to get support for new hardware, and we're already halfway there with DX12 being Win10 only.

This is why I keep going back to TF2. Can run it just fine but not even 50% render scale can get me to a constant 30fps in Overwatch.

TF2 runs well on toasters because its 9 years old.

My PC is literal toaster tier, and it can run Overwatch just fine

>got bored at TF2 one day
>decided to mess around with the settings and scripts
>set the camera to attach to the actual head of the player models
>real first person view where you can see the torso, arms, etc.
>while neat, it's impractical
>dropped game for a while
>picked up game months later
>script settings is still saved because steam cloud
>annoying workaround
>dropped the game entirely
A blessing in disguise.

No, it's because source engine runs on anything in general. It still has DX8 for fucks sake.

>I hear a lot of the newer stuff isn't well optimized

I know that part of it is due to a lack of LOD models on many cosmetics.

Toasters can support Overwatch

You'd basically need a computer from 2004 not to be able to run Oveerwatch

support, sure. run at an acceptable framerate, hell no

Reminder Blizzard thinks this is the next big e-sport title

TF2 is 9 fucking years.

Why should a brand new game be optimized for nearly decade old hardware?

Fucking retarded.

Sad thing is they're probably right, the game was clearly built around the limitations of the traditional gamepad.

He thinks people upgrade their computers every year.

He doesn't know.

Also TF3 will run smooth af on toasters, cus they have GABEN

Having played Overwatch for the past couple weeks exclusively, I went back to TF2 last night to give it a go. Was I just overlooking the fact that it runs like absolute dog shit 90% of the time? Because god damn.

It's a console game.

>why do modern games have different system requirements than older games
>why does this 2016 game with comparatively low system requirements not support all computers that can play this 9 year old game that at the time already supported very low system requirements.

TF2 was also a console game on launch.

Because PCs that can't handle Overwatch aren't going to buy the game to begin with.
It's not that difficult.

So was tf2

Overwatch will never surpass TF2 because TF2 is free and thus has an infinite supply of Russian and Brazilian children to keep it alive

Overwatch already won, more =/= better

TF2 was released on consoles but was intended as a PC game.
Overwatch was released on Windows PCs but was intended as a console game.
It might seem like a minor difference but its extremely important.

Overwatch was released by a company that had almost exclusively developed for the PC prior, in a game engine designed originally exclusively for PC's.

Blizzard's entire rabid fanbase is on PC, the game was intended as PC game.

>linux increasingly relevant

kek

Tf2 has way more content + Fan content than overmeme can ever dream of having.

You forgot

>Overwatch
>6v6 matches
>TF2
>16v16

Blizzard's fanbase was pretty divided on 'PC' between Windows and MacOS with a not insignificant number of users running the games with compatibility tools on other platforms since their engines used cross-platform friendly APIs.

Overwatch is console shit and is only on Windows because Microsoft has been turning it into a platform for consoles and tablets.

Give up

Yeah. I myself think that Overwatch is good (Played the open beta), but I'm not going to put 40€ into a game that doesn't even run smoothly on the lowest possible graphics. I can run tf2 just fine.

The Windows PC as we know it has less than 4 years of life left. Do you really want Windows 10 to be the only option?

Fun fact: TF2 now runs like absolute shit on toasters because of all the shit they added with no regards for optimization. There's tons of people complaining in the forums

>Blizzard's fanbase was pretty divided
Not particularly much at all, actually.

>and is only on Windows because Microsoft has been turning it into a platform for consoles and tablets.
Which is why it's on battlenet and not the windows store, right?

You know OW is better optimized than TF2.

TF2 is held together by duct tape.

I have a pretty high end machine and I get frame rate issues all the time unless the server is nearly empty. I have to avoid 32 player servers altogether because the frame rate tanks.

I remember someone saying this in early 2000.

Why is it a good thing to limit choice and hand all control to a company that has proven time and again that it cannot be trusted?

A third party store is only possible on Windows because Microsoft allows it, and they'll all stop working when Microsoft decides that the time has come likely once its no longer possible to run Windows 7 on modern hardware.

I played on Windows XP just fine.

OS means nothing retard

That was about the switch from DOS to NT, and they weren't wrong that was a major shift that left a lot of people out in the cold until compatibility software like DOSbox became mature enough to serve as a replacement.

In that case though it was possible to avoid the new version because games would still work on the old versions thanks to common APIs, hardware was still supported, and there was no such thing as a forced upgrade. This time around on the other hand Microsoft is forcing upgrades, the 'Universal' APIs only work on a single version of a single OS and they're determined to end all support for new hardware on Windows 7 well before the EOL date.

THIS is why overwatch will never beat TF2

>tfw you finally become good enough at something to pubstomp

With my machine built back in 2011 I can run the game just fine, I don't see the big deal.
>Intel i5
>HD Radeon 5770 1GB

Ain't that cute, he thinks tf2 can run well on a shitty pc.
The ever increasing shit they add to the game with zero optimization gradually increasing the required specs to run it have always been a point of complaint.

>The Windows PC as we know it has less than 4 years of life left.

>stomp enemy team hard
>somehow still manage to lose
I feel like this happens with reaper too much. I disrupt the living fuck out of their backline, bully snipers and distract enemies off the point and we still lose hard

Nigger the point is that it's blatant that microsoft's tablet fuckery has literally nothing to do with Blizzard's intention to release the game for PC.

windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle

Windows 7 EOL January 14, 2020

Why doesn't Valve port TF2 and CSGO to Source 2?

Hasnt it been "year of the linux desktop at last!" for like 5 years now? Linuxfags aren't very good at ETAs

They only released it for Windows because Windows is most compatible with their console release. Other PC paltforms that Blizzard used to support were left in the cold and given Blizzard's increasingly hostile policies towards people using third party compatibility software, playing them on unsupported platforms may not ever be possible.

>i wanted to play a game but because I was too lazy to type cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0 into console I forced myself to not want to play it

Microsoft has never shit the bad as badly as they have with Windows 10. Do you really want to have no options other than whatever they decide you have to use?

>tfw overwatch looks fun but I'm a macfag
40 dollarydoos isn't worth it anyways.

Because gaming on Mac and Linux are fucking dead and have always been dead.

You still don't have the slightest shred of evidence that a shooter designed by a company with an absolutely massive and rabid PC fanbase, who until now have almost exclusively developed for PC, using an engine for a game that was being made for a PC exclusive game, and is trying to supplant a game that is almost entirely PC based, was somehow designed for consoles primarily.

>disrupt BACKLINE
>bully SNIPERS
>DISTRACT enemies

None of these things are "tending to the objective," meaning they are completely worthless in a game where the enemy team has 0 communication to begin with.

The hero is a flanker though. I was doing my job

>WHY WONT DEVELOPERS WORK EXTRA HARD TO MAKE THEIR GAME
RUN ON MY SHITTY HARDWARE

Mind this is attacking

lol

TF2 supports Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
Overwatch only supports Windows.

In the past Blizzard supported Windows and MacOS. In terms of their PC support they're moving backwards abandoning users that they used to support and not keeping up with their competition. They've even stopped using cross-platform friendly APIs.

Clearly their massive PC fanbase doesn't matter to them as they're willing to throw it away to pursue console money.

Quick question, guys. I have a graphics card that won't do DX11 or 12, but I can't find any concrete eveidence of whether i'll be able to run Overwatch at Dx10 or Dx9. I've found people saying it won't work, but the official minimum requirements lists a card that doesn't do DX11 or 12.

Any answers?

>Heavy still has no class-specific domination lines
>Medic too

Pyro gets a pass for being Pyro, but surely they could find the time for these two since they've been brought back for stuff.

Last i heard Matchmaking will have voice stuff, but they were probably just wishful thinking.

Nah, tried everything on Intel 4000 and it just won't happen.
Not complaining though since I didn't expect much anyway.

source, good sir?

Eh, not feeling particularly helpful today, sorry dude.

>Why Overwatch will never surpass TF2
It already has. 7 million fucking copies at 60/40 bucks a pop compared to TF2. 7 fucking MILLION copies, plus microtransactions.

Medic doesn't seem like the kind of guy to actually come up with specific insults, valve has no excuse for Heavy though.

Orange box and tf2 sold more.

Yeah, TF2's lifetime sales. Overwatch released like two weeks ago. Give it a year.

That goalpost just shifted a little.

What's so bad about this? If anything, it will make the e-sport scene even more difficult cause of the this kinda stuff.

>What's so bad about this?
You are joking.

Aren't counterstrike hitboxes like this too?

I've never seen ANY game with hitboxes this bad.
Not even the huntsman.

Doesn't XP only support up to like 2GB of RAM? Like, you need a newer operating system to actually operate any more?

Why should I care anyway?

TF2 was a joke in the competitive scene. It was never meant to be competitive, that's why they kept adding more items and weapons over and over.

youtube.com/watch?v=1itn8XNo5d8

Compare this video to an actual competitive Team Fortress game like TFC or Quake TF.

We live in a different era, user. Games are meant for casuals now.

32bit operating systems can't address more than 4GB of RAM. Windows operating systems below 10 won't support new hardware launched after this year and will never support either DirectX 12 or the new 'Universal' application format.

I agree with you.
To a point.

But I don't think a mistake like that should be acceptable. I like tf2 because it's casual. But there's no reason to have larger hitboxes.

Nobody gives a shit about Linux.
And when not even actual gamers do, normies sure as hell won't.
Linux gaming support is the biggest mistake a developer can make.

Also, there's literally nothing wrong with Windows 10 unless you're a pedo or terrorist.
No company gives a shit about you.

I agree too, but this game was made with console in mind and for casuals.

It's the new era, user.

Might also be compensation for the tick-rate actually. I refunded this game because I couldn't stand it, really messes up how I play.

Shame, because all my friends seem to be playing it.

Probably get it when it's cheap as fuck or gifted me me or someshit.

Can't really justify getting it atm.

Plus, games like this waste my time far too much.

Go to bed Welfin

>Why Overwatch will never surpass TF2

8 Million players

It already has

it's 2016

if you don't have a good enough pc to run overwatch, buy a better pc

I hate to admit it but I like bastion's design.
And I like playing as big gorillas like winston.
Or fast characters.

You can build a machine good enough to run OW for a few hundred bucks.

I'm sorry if your job doesn't afford you enough cash to build a new rig every nine years.

I just notice, this has the email for gabe newell embedded into the email field.

Could this be the real mccoy?
