It's repetitive and dull outside of a few key moments though. Nearly 80% of the game is spent slowly walking from house to house and reloading every once in a while when some asshole throws a knife in your face from 20 feet away.

I'm alright with admitting I like this partially because of it's lack of popularity. The controversy around the game is what drew me in and I ended up liking it for its way of telling a story. The combat has just enough uniqueness for me to bare the RPG gameplay.

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

Simply liking thing does not define you as hipster. It's the way you reason your like for thing and/or the way you act about liking thing, especially if and when it falls outside of the mainstream's sight.

Plus given that you've included such a broad category (any games in this thread), people are just going to post popular or successful games in an attempt to get either a rise out of folks or a cheap reply.

And even then, liking an unpopular or unsuccessful game again does not make you a hipster, especially since the label of hipster is so easily defeated by liking something within the mainstream.

Anachronox was cool, but flawed. Heavily flawed.

After looking it up, seems like the recent digital re-releases didn't do anything to fix some of the game-breaking bugs, and probably wouldn't have done anything to salvage core gameplay mechanics either. Shame.

If it actually got remade in the modern era it could have so much potential, y'know?

I don't know about Pathologic, but The Void was a masterpiece of the highest caliber. If you don't appreciate this kind of game it's fine, but don't try to put down things you don't understand because it makes you look childish and stupid.

Hipsters are people who enjoy the idea of obscurity. They hate anything mainstream. They listen to music that "you probably have never heard of" and wear clothes that accent that they are somehow "different" and that they don't follow the mainstream.

The funny thing is, being a hipster became popular, so now everyone is confused about its meaning.
What used to be going against the mainstream, now IS mainstream.

But yeah, mostly people who are trying their hardest to differentiate from "mainstream" stuff are hipsters. It's not rocket science user, you don't need an essay to show your stupidity.

Most obvious example

Brutal Doom's primary benefit is the fluidity of its gameplay and its visuals, but it's all way too over the top to me.

Demonsteele on the other hand, that's just over the top enough. It can be a little clunky on some maps (and the some spriter really needs to offer their services to help finish up the character sprites), but on the whole flows really well and plays super fun once you get it down. Would readily recommend over Brutal Doom any day of the week, although Brutal Doom's certainly got its own charm.
