Probably the slim since it (from what I've heard) has 3G capabilities. As far as the second question, that depends on how much you wanna spend on memory cards. Generally, if you get a 16 GB, go physical as much as possible. If you get 32 GB and up, you're fine going digital only.

Though be warned that a large part of the time, Vita games are digital only.

If you enjoy spending money on games, and then the storage needed to store those games, go digital. Otherwise, go physical.
Original has a better screen, slim has a better battery life, decide what's more important to you.

1ks have an out dated version of OLED screen, its nothing like the OLEDs used for phones now or even back in 2012. Those screens are going to start dying in mass in a few years, also they generally have Mura defect.

Physical if you can't afford a large memory card

Digital if you can get that 32 or 64gig and/or have Playstation Plus. If you dont have PS+ just back up your unused games to your PC via the Content Manager Assistant.

Depends on what you want to play. All the Vita games I own are physical. And if your willing to import, you can get more games physical, sometimes translated.

1000: AMAZING screen with bautiful bright colors.

2000: lighter and has 2hs extra battery life


If you take it out too often id go with 2K model for portability and extended battery life.

If you play mostly at home id go with 1K.


I have a 2K, a 1K and most of my library is physical (except digital only games like SSD).

Grab muramasa, and load it on a 1K and a 2K and put them side by side.

Then cry because you bought a 2K.

Whichever version you get, make sure you get a charge dock. My vita used to always run out of juice when I left it in standby and forgot to plug it in, but the charge dock makes things a lot more convenient.

Get Slim so you can get this. The level of comfort of this thing makes using the Vita without it like, just really not seem like an option

The only thing better is the battery life (due to LCD using less battery than OLED) and the size.

Buttons are the exact same pieces as 1K.

The 2K is slimmer but the plastic is of a lower quality than the 1K.

Get the original since it will probably stop being manufactured before the 2k, it has really nice quality to it.

How stable is this? I havent gotten it because I'd be too worried about the vita falling flat on its face

There is absolutely no chance of the vita falling, super stable, and it has rubber on its bottom to prevent sliding (even if you fucking push it).

100% worth it.

It only works with 1K though since it has the propietary plug to connect the 1K.

It's rock solid. Gravity is pushing the vita backwards, not forwards, and overall the design is very stable. I've had mine for a year and it's yet to tip over.

The charge dock is only for the oled vita, not the slim. I haven't had any trouble with charge, that being said. Maybe they improved it with the slim?

There are charge docks for the Slim, but they're not official. I'm not quite sure how reliable they are, though, since the Slim uses micro USB. The original Vita's proprietary charge port and cable are built like tanks, whereas micro USB is the worst connector ever invented. That alone may be a reason to consider getting the 1000 series over the 2000, though the tradeoff is that micro USB is a lot easier to replace if you ever lose your cable (or if it breaks, which is quite likely if you don't misplace it).

Usually with micro-USB it's the cable that breaks and that's easy as hell to replace.

It's a chinese clone that doesn't have a battery pack built in. In terms of additional comfort those do the job just fine, although the original Nyko ones gave you extra battery time.

Yeah tru but like, how much battery life do you even need? I guess for long plane rides it'd help but most common environments for playing Vita I can think of is at home or for long car rides, and you can get an adapter for the car jack if you need it

The screen on the 2000 is an IPS LCD, which means everything is still going to look very good. Colors will look a little washed out if you have it side by side with the 1000 screen, but you could say the 1000's screen is over saturated and be just as valid. You'll be hard pressed to notice a difference otherwise, and the 2000's screen will never suffer from burn in. OLED screens suffer from burn in, and what's worse is not all sub pixels burn in at the same rate so your color balance will change over time.

Even a slight adjustment in the white balance can cause the screen to look a lot better or worse. The whites on my 2000 look just as good as on the only OLED screen I own, my Nexus 6p.

you'd get the files from the cart, not the whole cart in one simple action which is what mattered most. I even dumped my own carts to the extent that i could (and had a proof of concept "dump to memory card" thing going on for unencrypted data) but because i lacked the skills and nobody gave a shit i abandoned it.

It was a very small amount of success but it wasn't enough to matter. but now we can get the full rom images and that means the world

Actually the email hack dumps were unencrypted, as you could see the individual files; meanwhile the .psv format utilised by the Blackfin is still encrypted (AFAIK)

regardless it's still more reliable to do than before so that's not something we can really be mad about. What we just have to do now is figure out how to get them onto the internal system with some changes and we can play them from the memory card instead of a cart.

The manual dumps are certainly not encrypted. The fact that you can see a plaintext header segment (PCSF00001_00) demonstrates that.

They are unusable though, there's no way to trick the Vita into using them.

The new, .psv format dumps are useful because they function just like a real Vita cart. In fact they require remote Vita carts on a network to be accessed in order to achieve authentication.

Physical is best. Sony never dropped the price on their memory cards. Just be sure to know about any local indie shops or online retailers since the Vita doesn't get shelf presence at regular vidya stores.

I thought they did drop the price on the memory cards when the slim came out and they added the 65gb option then as well? It's just the cards were so overpriced as it is that a modest price drop got us to where we are today.

I check, you're right, they did drop the price on the cards. When I read about the 64gb model, it was strictly an import item, don't know if that changed. Anything below the 32gb is still a terrible value for the market prices listed.
