I honestly don't know how one can play older Pokemon games after playing a newer one

Emerald is the only correct answer.

Forgot to mention I've only played Yellow and Sapphire.

Was Red Giovannis wife's son

emerald is the best gen3

FR/LG are pretty timeless. They'd be nigh on perfect if the physical/special split and Gen II/IV evolutions were implemented, though somebody has probably done a hack for that.

Are there any interesting patches to upgrade the game?

yes

I know there's a patch to make trade evos like Haunter>Gengar into Level evos

I think there are a few "386" hacks around, where you can catch every pokemon in that gen and they generally up the difficulty. Fire Red Omega comes to mind. Check around Pokecommunity.

Would you consider turning all the Pokemon into cute girls an upgrade?

Ok OP
I also have a psp and I came to give you some suggestions
1.- Persona 3 Portable: even if you played it already, the female protagonist gives you another reason to replay it
2.- Monster Hunter Freedom unite: if you are an autist like me well, this game is for you, grinding and with some comfy atmosphere
3.-All the final Fantasy to 1 to 9
An for a pokemon game, play Esmerald with the moemon hack, really fun

Play Crystal version.
Its good.

Does Unite have clearly defined sp missions? I've never played MH and assumed it was all online.

It's really hard to go back to pre physical/special split games. Like, I can't even think of it any more. How did you even use some mons that didn't have good STAB?

Also what about Portable 3rd HD?

You have a lot of sp quest in Freedom unite
Don't know about 3rd desu

Fire Red is one of the best pre-gen 4 games along with Emerald and GSC so yes.

P3rdHD is pretty great for beginners and it's really not grindy if you know what you're doing.
>Spend less than half an hour killing Great Jaggis early game
>Already got armour for the entirety of low rank
>Maybe spend 10 minutes getting resources to upgrade a weapon when the upgrade is available

There's at least one physical/special split patch with visual indicators. You should get it even if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I'd also recommend going back and playing a bunch of other GBA games. There are tons of great RPGs on it besides Pokemon.

Id especially recommend Mother 3

Any others?

Maybe you should play some PSX games on it
Also try the gta's, juts finished liberty city stories and it was really nice

Play a romhack, the original game is boring as fuck.
Pretty easily, actually. I can replay any gen that's not 4 or 6 at pretty much any whim.

And 3. Fuck gen 3.
>moemon
You people are awful.

Because they're better and have more content?

And yet i wonder why this place is so shit

Summon Knight Swordcraft Story
Megaman Battle Network
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

>no physical special split
>no reliable way to breed for IVs
>stale metagame
better

>half of the current pokemon
>less items
>less moves
more content

>he hates cute girls
check out this faggot

>He likes shit
Get a load of this cancer

Kinda boring & slow. If youre new to Pokemon then go ahead with FR/LG. I guess they're perfect for that. Otherwise, Emerald is the way to go.

play emerald its alot more fun than sapphire. but i recommend leaf green if you want one of those. the kanto remakes were great.

>no physical special split
>no reliable way to breed for ivs
>stale metagame
wew good thing no one plays FRLG for the fucking multiplayer. lmao i still laugh at people who choose to waste their time breeding over injecting. the story is better. the over world is better the end game is better which is all that ever mattered.

>half of the current pokemon
>implying the new half is worth anything
half of gen 4/5 pokemon were forgettable. gen 6 added a handful of pokemon of which dragalge was the only thing that mattered.
>less items
>muh competitive pokeman
>less moves
ill give you this one. the level up move lists for current pokemon made unplayable pokemon playable for leveling purposes like tentacool.
but there is more to do in those games than in current ones. played one playthrough of xy and put the game down for life. oras was better but wasnt a good remake.

>Half the current pokemon
I don't think this really matters when the regional Pokedexes all have about the same amount of Pokemon, X and Y's triple-dex aside.

play touhoumon

>hating gen 3
>the objectively best gen ever
>the pinnicle of pokemon
>implying you werent hype as fuck when you heard they were remaking red and green for the new gba.
>implying you didnt spent hours at the battle frontier on emerald and trying to find mirage island.
gen 3 was the pinnacle of pokemon.
Gen 4 COULD have been the pinnacle. HGSS are the best pokemon games todate. but DP ruined it, platinum was good but sinnoh had horrible pacing.

>half of gen 4/5 pokemon were forgettable
This is blatantly wrong.

why do you even come here if you hate people having different tastes?
neogaf or reddit are much better suited for you.

Be more butthurt over a dumb joke suggestion. Retard.

Judging from how triggered it made you you're the one who should find somewhere else to fester.

Can I do this on my phone please user
Answer

>implying you werent hype as fuck when you heard they were remaking red and green for the new gba.
I wasn't, but I did end up getting Leaf Green. it took me 3 tries to actually finish. Got a lot of new favorites when i did finish, though. I still remember my team.
>battle frontier and mirage island
The only facility I really went through was Battle Factory. I tried the Pike and Pyramid once, but that's about it. Every time I replay Emerald, I get bored and have to stop.
>pinnacle of Pokemon
It improved the post-game and introduced new mechanics, but I don't like the final product much. I'm not speaking from a nostalgic viewpoint. I'm talking about when I try to play the games today.

>HGSS are the best games to date
Agreed.

k
dont have one for gen 5 but heres gen 4.
I will say serperior is my favorite pokemon. But 5 suffered the same fate as 4. It added alot of pokemon. Which made alot of Bro- tier pokemon and alot of forgettable pokemon. so its 50/50

i was genuinely curious

They're very good, very moddable. To this day people still make edits/mods.
There's some nice improvements:
I'd take the firered .gba, and add the physical special patch, and day/night.

No you

>playing pokemon on a non-nintendo system

It just wouldn't feel right, y'know?

>Kinda boring & slow
Don't know about you but the pacing in FR/LG was enjoyable for me. The multiple paths and order to fight the gym leaders after Misty always makes playthroughs interesting.
>Otherwise, Emerald is the way to go.
How is emerald compared to the R/S? I only played Ruby and I was bored to shit after lilycove when everything just became water routes and wingull/tentacool hell. Can't imagine the 8th gym leader and champion both being water types being an improvement.

it was a genuine suggestion as well

Yes. This is a prepatched rom but it's vanilla fire red so things like trade evolutions and other game exclusive mons are still a thing unless you patch them out. I would just look for a 386 patch and use that. The entire process is easier on android though. nicoblog.org/gba-roms/moemon-fire-red-hack/

>Gen III
>Best

No. Hoenn was a god awful region and the soundfont was atrocious. Best Gen is IV. Could have been V if B/W2 hadn't been such a step backwards from the originals.

>platinum was good
Better than DP but I don't know about good

BW & the gen 2 remakes were the best DS games

Going from Norman to Fortree is still the best part of the game. Sky Pillar becomes part of the main game, and there's an actual post-game with the Battle Frontier. Outside of that, it's the same.

Emulating it on a computer definitely doesnt feel right. I had to emulate HGSS on computer but it would have been alot mroe fun if i had a ds to play it on.
Emulating on a handheld is really all that matters to me. I like to play pokemon in bed all comfy.

...

I play Pokemon on my Vita all the time, dude. It's pretty great. If only it could emulate DS games. If only.

No physcial special split affects gameplay severly. Consider Gengar, he has a fuck ton of special attack and practically no physical attack, yet both of his STABs are physically oriented. Sharpedo and Crawdaunt are physically oriented but with duel special STABs. Pre-gen 4 suffers a lot from this.

And > half of gen 4/5 pokemon were forgettable

that is 100% your opinion. I remember and appreciate every pokemon that exists.

And in my opinion, Kanto is a really boring region that we've visited way too fucking many times.

HG/SS have aged like milk user. Give it a replay and feel the jank.

Play mother 3 instead

>Can't imagine the 8th gym leader and champion both being water types being an improvement
I fucking hated that back then. I liked Steven. Still don't see what was the point of that change.

>Can't imagine the 8th gym leader and champion both being water types being an improvement.
Eh, you fight Steven at a higher level, so it works out alright.

Strongly disagree, but it doesn't matter. Does anyone know if there's a version of the game that gives you the GB player at the start? I don't know why they didn't do this in the actual game. Or at least after the E4 or something. Takes a while to get it normally, and by the time you get it, you don't feel like running around again.

Disregard my question. Already answered it. FUCK, I wish there were a DS emulator available for the Vita.

This, as someone who has played pokemon since they were 5, and currently plays it and attends tournements, mother 3 is far better than any gen 3 game

I can't understand how they'd want to play it on PSP (no speed-up etc) either. Then again they made a thread like this without fucking googling in the first place so it's surprising they can even get out of bed in the morning

There is a turbo option.

On PSP? Lets not lie to ourselves. Ignoring how inaccurate the emulation will be.

i dont know why, i guess i was just that perfect high school age but FRLG had me the most hyped for any games ever. was anticipating that shit for months

>Best Gen is IV

>slow battles
>terrible music
>forgettable pokemon
>defog being a thing
>too many legendaries
>cluttered backpack
>weak E4

>i wish there were a ds emulator fo the vita
agreed. Someone could do it to. make it to where it shows the top screen all the time and have a button to switch between top and bottom screens when you need to. wouldnt work with every ds game but would work with pokemon games.

>shows the top screen all the time and have a button to switch between top and bottom
I would much rather have split screen.

i figured everything would just be small then. even if it were a horizontal split.

DS resolution is small, dude.

Post some good Pokemon hack rom

>Gen IV better than anything
>BW2 not an improvement over the already great BW
Holy shit this is awful taste

Any good Pokemon R/G/Y ROMs that have every Pokemon in them? I really love playing Yellow but it sucks that I can't catch 'em all because some of the Pokemon aren't in it.

i don't get upset because people have different tastes like you do, why would i need to leave lmao

they don't exist

Can't take a screenshot, but there's an actual turbo button.

clearly you do tho

FR/LG, HG/SS, Black/White, and Black2/White2 is all you really need to play. Really hoping Sun/Moon improve from X/Y/OR/AS.

Calling it a turbo button doesn't make it one

Gen V was atrocious. Suddenly Pokemon were just "things" with faces, and badly designed at that. The majority of the Unova dex is grimer/muk tier imagination.

lightning-yellow.com

best thing there is. you can obtain all original 151 pokemon one way or another.

I mean, it does speed up the game.

Ace Attorney 2 and 3 if you played 1
Advance Wars and Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Super Mario Advance 1-4
Wario Land 4
Golden Sun
Mother 3
Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga
Mario Tennis Advance (forgot actual title)
Wario Ware
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (GBA port)

It's just a really shitty experience. Lets admit to that.

Thanks user. Dis gon b gud.

Here you go bud. Weird that no one mentioned this first.

>playing ports
>playing inferior games
I'm like surprised how much shit taste one can have

maybe because only children like to play chores disguised as video games

The Mario or Zelda ports? He's just asking for GBA games
I preferred Blue version but if you don't have a choice it's still a great game

agreed. BW were absolute garbage, exacerbated by the fact that you could ONLY catch their ugly gen V pokemon during the main story

people only like the endgame of BW2. battle frontier will always be the superior endgame

The new monsters may not have been all that great but having only new Pokemon appear in BW until after the E4 was a fantastic decision and I'm disappointed Sun/Moon won't do the same

>but he's asking for GBA games
Oh you're right, here you go OP!

Well the things is I did enjoy the region, and both stories were as captivating as Pokemon is ever going to get, but the pokemon just kill it for me. I wish there was a hack that took the Gen V out of Gen V.

And what do you recomend then?

For the love of fuck track down a physical special split hack

Besides that they're great

Not an argument. Stop trying to deflect when someone's trying to prove a point.

To add,
Agree with Emerald
Kirby Nightmare in dreamland
Sonic Battle
Chu Chu Rocket GBA
One Piece GBA
Turbo Turtle

They are good. Emerald is great.
I really want to recommend Crystal, but it's hard going back to, I'd rather recommend just waiting and playing/emulaitng HG/SS in future.
